Just something that has worked for me . If you can get ahold of one from the extension service or conversation district , instead of mowing , use a roller crimper . Most mowers windrow the cut grass and that can be a problem . Crimper lays it flat . And I had been told there was an advantage to leaving the plant and root in tact . Been a couple years now and I have to completely recommend it . Little wheat and rye would make for some pasture . 😉
in any other situation I would TOTALLY agree with the roller crimper! However, we need the stalks & leaves to be separated from the roots in this case to avoid the production of the toxic chemicals in sorghum Sudan stalks after the frosts :( If we had any other plant in place of that I would say yes absolutely! Next year 😉GREAT idea about reaching out to an extension service or conservation district to rent/borrow a roller crimper!!! writing this down! thank you!
You, The farm and the lambs are looking great, Beautiful fall colors. mistakes create opportunities and I have had a lot of opportunities! Love your hat! ❤️ I have one just like it! 😂
Always need to learn from mistakes. I'm still learning better ways to build things. Curious if you have taken a look at the soil after this one season of cover crops?
Thanks Curt! never stop learning! We are getting a soil sample done through MAEAP next week! Just a really simple one... we will get a more thorough one done again next fall. Unfortunately will take 3 ish years to see really significant changes :/ but we are in it for the long haul!
I love how you take a negative and turn it into a positive. So fun to see you both grow on this journey! Question regarding pro-metabolic eating, I’d like to try this but don’t know where to start. Are there any courses you’d recommend? Thanks 😊
@@StrongSistas thanks I’ll do that for sure. I know looks can be deceiving, but I was watching some of your old footage and Instagram stories and you both look so much healthier now, like you have a glow about you. I don’t think Ash has her period back yet? But has this way of eating helped in other ways like energy? Would love another update video on this. Thanks
How are things going? What's going on with the sheep? I'm a couple of months ahead of you so feel connected in a way. Missing your content, still want to put out your videos??
I don't think the lambs escaping is anyone's fault. Sheep and lambs especially escape the their fields all the time. The only way to stop them would be to invest in more dense fencing, which every farmer or crofter I've ever spoken to, say is too expensive for this issue... it's not like they're all escaping and they're usually easily retrieved.
@@StrongSistas I think a good sheep dog is cheaper and will just about eliminate this from happening. Research into the different types of sheep dogs... some are just for rounding up the sheep, others are for being in with them all the time - more for 24/7 protection from predators, but it doesn't do the sheep any harm.
@@StrongSistas I think a dog in with them the whole time would maybe help with the rotational grazing. Sheep are really lightweight compared with cattle, so they won't churn up the ground and trample their dung into into it if their scattered across the field.
@@wolfpackpete6408 we have on our list next year to get a LGD! Unfortunately not in the budget (or timeframe) this year. But for next year's lamb flock - absolutely.
that is our plan for next year! We will try to introduce a LGD pup to the next lamb flock (and can hopefully get those much earlier - like May or June!)
Sheep is a woolly ruminant mammal that is related to the goat. Lamb is a young sheep that is under one year of age. As you can see the only difference between sheep and lambs is their age. ... One of the major reasons why lambs are more in demand is the taste of meat. I couldn’t figure out why you weren’t saying sheep ….learn something new everyday …and I used to raise them…. Best of luck to you young ladies….not only beautiful but very smart !!
likely some! But we will plant another diverse cover crop mix next spring and we will graze a lot earlier next year!. Not too worried for us to have the same issue next year. There will likely be plenty of other mistakes 😂
The sheep escape because you have a few sheep called gaters.... They are inquisitive and always looking for a way of escape.... once they find a way out the rest of the sheep will follow them.... It's usually the same culprits....
Learning is biggest part of becoming rancher/farmer. Keep smiling.
some of our mistakes have been so painful 😂 but the only thing we can do is smile, learn & move on! thank you!
It’s ok you two! It’s a learning process, things will get better in time! At least you are honest about how things can go sometimes 😉
Thanks Chris! This year has certainly been a journey... but wouldn't trade the experiences (& mistakes) for anything!
This is my favorite video yet! Thanks for sharing your farming journey!! Love you girls!
aw thanks Isaac! Love learning from you and hopefully making you proud with your sheep!!
Hey girls, as long as you’re learning, it’s all good.
thanks Jeanne! ❤ you are right!
Learning as you go... all part of the process!
yes indeed! Personally believe one of the best ways to learn is through mistakes!

ya'll really make me want to get into farming. Looks like a hard day(year/always) of work, but well worth it!!
have definitely never worked this hard physically before but it will be worth it all in a few years!! And I love every day!

I hope you don't have to take poor Atlas to the Horsepital!
😂😂😂 Atlas is thankfully doing just fine! No horsepital!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can you be a angel and tell me where you got your hooded coat with the sherpa lining? It looks very warm for the MI winters.
of course! It is a Carhartt coat from Tractor Supply Co! Very warm indeed!
@@StrongSistas Oh, much obliged! This is good for when it's raining, too.

yehhhh - a really good perimeter fence is quite expensive. Something we can't afford at this moment, but is a must down the line.

Should have gotten a combine removed all the seed heads now good luck ever getting rid or the sorghum.

Did your periods start from eating a pro metabolic diet ? Plz make a video on that and blood test
will do!
Welp! You learn from your mistakes. Hopefully, it didn't set back your short term or long term planning too much.
we certainly do! The mold exposure was definitely the biggest thing that set us back, but we came out of that a lot stronger! No stopping us!

I know EXACTLY which ones are the gaters... there are 2 of them. I have my eye on them.
I know them they come over they came over to your house or a big farm
