My old hometown of NYC had its first permanent TV station premiere on July 1, 1941 as WNBT later known as WNBC TV ch. 4 . And it is still in business.

Growing up in NYC I was always thrilled to get WGN on the AM or SW and when we got cable, WGN gave me a window into Chicagoland! I hope to visit the Windy City one day!

They used to broadcast 24hrs a day. They should put classic tv shows on after 1am.

In the 1988 40th anniversary special, they showed a little bit more footage of the present day studio construction.

So glad to have spent a portion of my youth watching WGN-TV from Garfield Goose to Creature Features, it was a magical time.

1948 gas $ 0.26 = $ 3.27 in 2022 Be sure to note that the cost of drilling for / refining of / better safety systems / transporting oil has increased as well as the higher production cost of unleaded fuel.

Concerning 7:00 in the vid. For more info on the early days of long distance distribution of TV signals, see the vid " Stepping Along with Television " on the channel " AT&T Tech Channel "

As an old guy, I think the old WGN was better than the new WGN.
