@@andrewsullivan1523 Let me get this straight. A high-level black belt that has won a TON of titles both gi and nogi all throughout the colored belts AND just dominated one of the toughest East Coast Trials we've ever seen at -77kg is "just a very strong athletic wrestler"? Are you a troll or just a hater?
Carpet wars is ridiculous. ADCC needs to care about its athletes and just have buffer space with mats around the "normal" mat space. Career ending injuries are far more likely off the mats.
I hate this attitude they are demonstrating. At 5:35 in the video, Mo says ADCC is more intense and exciting than other events and it cuts to Alejandro getting injured. People getting injured is not the reason bjj is exciting. Fuck Mo and fuck ADCC, this is toxic.
What are the rules with weight cutting for ADCC? Do you have to weigh in at/ under 77kgs on the day? Do people weight cut and rehydrate before comp? Just curious. A lot of those dudes looked heavier than 77kgs. Hard to tell through a camera though ofc! Regardless, great rolling and unbelievable show of skill. You love to see it.
Kind of looked like the same ankle lock submission, if someone crosses their ankles when they have back control. Looked like the tapper was trying to go to mount but his ankles got trapped.
if elijah has a rematch with nicky, I think it will end very differently, dude got subbed by taza few months back in adcc open dude definitely came with a strategy but mostly scrambling oriented grappling and not much actual jiu jitsu the whole bracket was crazy, but the finals was kinda meh
Looked to me like he wasn't wanting to engage much and just played a loose outside passing game and stayed active. Like you said his strategy was solid, just not very exciting of a style to me to watch
It was a counter to the body triangle. That is why when you do the body triangle, you should have the triangle locked on the opposite side (opponent's hip) not on the "floor side", or the hip that is touching the floor, if that makes sense. For the defensive person you want to move the body lock towards the floor to escape or possibly do this counter which becomes a foot lock.
can someone tell me what happened at 5:37 he had side body triangle from what it looks like why did he tap couldn't he have just let go i see the guy was pushing on his legs but i don't know if that's a submissions what am i missing
I like ADCC rules in general, but I think the refs are a little too lenient with letting the action go when the guys are way off the mats. Like when guys are grappling on the carpet I think it's time to just reset them - it's not worth someone getting a major injury
I'm almost certain it was a straight ankle lock. Shirtless guy has a body triangle locked up, blue shirt hooked shirtlesses right leg with his own and pulled it towards his butt. Then blue shirt hipped up to put pressure on shirtless left ankle as it was locked in behind the right knee, adding the necessary torque. No other sub from that position seems possible.
He tried to come on top with the body triangle still locked because with the right angle on mount a top body triangle can be super suffocating. As he rotated on top, his heel started slipping out but his toes stayed in the body triangle lock, so pushing down on the knee from bottom and, as the bottom player, trapping the bottom foot of your opponent (you can't see from this angle) will over externally rotate the ankle. If you wanna feel the kind of pressure it gave, from sitting on a chair, rest your ankle over your other leg with your foot dangling past your thigh, and push down on your foot at where your big toe begins while pushing up under your heel. If you do it right it should hurt a bit, which you can imagine would hurt a lot more if the pressure came from a double tricep extension and one leg of bridging power, as is shown in the video.
@@adcc-official it was an ankle lock. I stepped over the leg, get my shoulders to the mat, push his leg outwards and drive my hip into the triangle lock to create the pressure.
What's the point of having the mats then? if you can continue the match outside the mats, make the whole freaking floor of the event a giant mat. Make it safe for the fighters, this is not a bar fight, they can more professional. That's just my view.
Do you need to apply a negative for backpedaling or at the very least give a positive point for the opponent otherwise it only benefits you to have your feet at the very back edge of the mat the whole time.
Does ADCC only have enough money for 4 mats? I can donate some if they need them, holy shit. Rolling around on carpet doesnt make me think these guys are more bad ass or better at jiu jitsu, just a lack of rules ususally put in place to steer the action to the mat. You never see wrestlers rolling off the mats lmao
Why you call this a highlight video if you don't show anything from the final and instead show us all this interviews where guys feel great, honoured etc.?
I'm sure having no knees for a long time didn't help huh, he also doesn't take it nearly as seriously as his brother and was doing about aswell as the others on the team to be fair..... 6 finishes and hes still not progressing as much as you want to see LOL
@@Lockdown335 yes because hes literally fighting nobodys.. He has the opportunity and could have the skillset and preperation to be winning ADCC but instead hes just losing ADCC trials. Sorry if that hurt your feelings, its just the truth.

Agreed, unfortunately. I like Nicky and met him recently when I went to visit B Team but he's just not producing like he used to for whatever reason. Obviously, his injuries have a lot to do with it but maybe there's more to it like a mental block maybe? I'd definitely like to see him doing better and getting his own ADCC gold at some point.
The Dorsey/Taza finish is just dumb. If you're going to allow action out of bounds, dont position spectators on the perimeter. Or better yet, institute pushout points on the feet and just restart. This will have the added benefit of incentivizing action since both competitors have to move forward.
Technically Nicky Ryan really won since he got 2nd. Goal accomplished

Looks like the guy had a body triangle locked to the other side and bottom guy stepped over the leg and used his hips to finish a kind of ankle lock.
