I would love for you to make a video as to how you should potty train your pigs. I've had my pet pig for a month now and he knows the litter box is to pee in but he doesn't go there unless I carry him there, So he makes accidents pretty frequently and I would like to know if you have any tips as to how to resolve this, thank you!
You definitely want to start limiting his space. It's the same general concept as housebreaking a puppy. But, pigs are smarter and so they can either be much easier to train if they're taught the right habits from day one, OR, much more challenging if they learn wrong potty habits and you have to try and break them.
Keep him in a small space, I like to use a puppy play pen, where all he has access to is his litter box, water and his sleeping spot. If you aren't watching him, put him in there. They aren't able to hold it long as babies, and aren't usually motivated enough to cross an entire room to get back to the box at that age. When he's out, if you see him start to wander for a potty break run him back to his box.
Never reward them with treats for using the box, praise and petting only! Otherwise, they'll start to fake potty and get angry if you don't deliver the treat!

Love how you always squash "Misconceptions!" My hugest battle right now with Tansy is her dumping her water bowl and litter box!! I have tried rocks, big heavy bowls, little bowls, several litter boxes and she continues lol! So needless to say I am constantly cleaning up peed on shavings lol! Oh and she refuses to poop in the litter box! Have to put her outside for that! But she is worth every second! Great informative video!
I gave up on the litter box idea a long time ago. Mine would do the same thing, make a huge mess, scatter dirty shavings everywhere, or sleep in the box and pee somewhere else! The potty pad has saved my life!
Pretty sure Tansy would eat the potty pad hahaha!!! I now wire the litter pan and water to the crate. Which made her SO mad!!! She was doing it to be a brat and now she can't SO she PUSHES the shavings out now since she can't tip it!! She's a smart girl :/
Lol! I know exactly the attitude you're describing here...it does tend to be more prevalent with the girl pigs in my experience. They just have big personalities and ideas!

It can be so alarming for people who've never been around a pig before! I'm always getting asked if their pig is okay and why it's making noise all the time. They just wander around the house muttering to themselves :P

Hairless "skinny" pigs kinda look like hippo's! I think i would get one after all if/when I'm able to provide for a pair/group of guinea pigs. Do you think the Skinnies would wear knitted outfits to keep warm in winter? I just wondered that because they're at a disadvantage without the fur.
I love guinea pigs. I wish I were able to get them but can't afford them right now. Sticking to my kitties, mouse (until he passes) and hamsters/gerbils for now.

Grover is actually a piglet from a Mom I rescued. All of my pigs are either rescued as adults, or born here as piglets :) I'll be doing a video soon about how to select a breeder though - since the majority of them are scams!
So very true! My boy came from a private breeder that only did 2 breedings with her own two pigs. I of course went to meet mom and dad before any deposits were made. I see so many scams with them it just makes you shake your head... I love that all of yours are rescues! Sounds like a great video. I definitely look forward to it.

I just brought my pig home Sunday and I know he’s going to be a little skittish but he won’t even let me touch him, he’s started following me around and coming fairly close to me for his treats so I hope that’s a good sign.
That sounds totally normal! They usually spend the first few days or so running the other direction!

Where they live does not change their size. That's strictly based on their genetics and their diet (don't underfed or they'll stay too skinny, don't overfeed or they'll get too fat). The most important thing for size is to see their parents and feed them a healthy diet!
Also will the carrier sweatshirt only work for little piglets? My mini pig is an adult now but he is still pretty small, l think he is like a little smaller then your first mini pig. Will the sweatshirt still work for me?

I have been doing research for the past few years on mini pigs (care, diet, breed ). I’m finding it extremely difficult to find a breeder that I trust that doesn’t want my liver as a deposit and my first born as payment 🤣 What I am curious of is, do you rehome the litters that you have/raise? You are the closest to me that I have found (East Tennessee) and the first person who has been totally open about size, breed, and expected size. I would love to at least chat with you about it!
Also thanks for all info in your videos! You go over everything in detail and take such good care of your babies!! Great channel, I will always be a fan!!!

I do rehome the litters born here. They aren't free, to discourage flippers and meat buyers, but they aren't the price the big breeders ask. You can contact me on IG for more information! I'm roughly four hours from the Knoxville area - which I only know because I've now made two trips there to save pigs :P
Hey Adri, thank you for making these videos, they give me hope that I can one day bond with my own little piggy like the one you have here! I have been dreaming of having my own pig since I was a little girl. I’ve seen so many videos about people being scammed and ending up with three hundred pound pigs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I would adore that pig just as much, but a small one is just much more practical to care for. Is there any particular mini pig breeder that you would recommend? Are all of your piggies rescues?
I'll actually be doing a video very soon about how to select a breeder. I'd estimate at least 75% of "mini" pigs are scams...some only by 50ish lbs, and some by hundreds. While every size pig is love-able, I certainly understand why some simply aren't practical to keep as household pets!
Most of mine are rescued, but I have also had litters born on the farm (Scarlett was from one of those).

How old was the baby when you got her? Just curious how many times you have to feed her (milk replacement right)? Do you have to get up all hours of the night at this age?
I actually never take piglets that are still requiring milk if possible. I've done it a few times in the past as a last resort, but otherwise never support separating them from Mom until they're fully weaned - at least 6 weeks old. Pigs are incredibly difficult to keep alive as bottle babies and generally suffer longterm complications/health issues if they do make it.
All that being said, :P, she's 4 months old and well past that stage in life. She gets veggies, banana and whole grains!

She's getting mashed banana for breakfast with some oats. Lunch is a veggie puree - the ingredients vary based on what I've stocked up on for the week. Dinner is either brown rice baby cereal, whole wheat pasta, or quinoa, with a little wheat germ oil to keep skin soft!

We just brought our second piggy home. How do you introduce your pigs to your new pigs? My pigs are both babies, 2 months apart in age and right away my 16 week pig attacked our new addition. I know they typically do this to assert their dominance but she was soooo aggressive we are worried she will seriously hurt her. Any tips would be helpful!
Generally it's best to keep them separated the first few weeks. Using a baby gate or puppy play pen works great - they can still access one another but can't do each other harm. From there, short, supervised visits with both pig receiving praise once they've been separated again. It is okay to scold either pig for being too aggressive. I generally just come between them full of noise (clapping, stomping, firm "no") and potentially a swift snout tap if they try to continue, essentially mimicking how Mom pigs scold. Normal communication methods like grunting at one another, a little shoving etc... are acceptable though and will likely continue throughout their lives here and there, like with any siblings :P
My pig liked me carrying him around, until he got too big for me to do it. When he was Scarlets size, I had a him in a playpen. He cuddles with me all the time now, but definitely not how when he was a piglet. He treats me more like he needs to protect me now. Have you used the turf potty pad for an adult mini? Mine is litter box trained but on the pine pellets and pine sawdust equine bedding.
Sounds like you’ve been a fantastic pig parent! They can be a handful if you aren’t prepared so it’s always great to hear about other owners who’ve done a good job.
I’ve always had pigs try to sleep in boxes with shavings 😝 so I’ve only used pads the last several years. I have grown pigs transitioned to the turf! It was a totally smooth transition and I think I’ll be buying a few more for around the house (since young pigs are lazy, lol)
I guess with pig is the same ,my dogs use this doggy plastic toilet plus sanitary sheet on it ,i change it everyday ,is cool
