    She is 100% spot on about pig sizes! My mom and I breed minis. We have one BIG mama, a kunekune/potbelly cross that probably weighs around 200lbs and one little mama that weighs around 50lbs. We also have one piggy that weighs maybe 35lbs at one year old that will have babies someday! This chick has got to be like my long lost sister or something lol

    Saying that a pig under 50 lbs doesn't exist is normally the uneducated response from passionate animal rights advocates that talks before they can think because they've seen what these pigs or dogs or whatever other species have been through and they want it to end.You seem passionate about these pigs and you do have some educated information that I cannot argue with. You have a beautiful home and space for these pigs, I think the world could use someone like you to advocate against pig breeders. I haven't watched all your videos and I don't know all your pig's stories, but it seems like you have a passion for rescuing them. You should do some extra research and learn that genetic diversity in pigs is very important. The way some of these pigs get to be only 15 lbs is if they're inbred constantly. It's not normally a healthy gene pool and saying that its similar to dogs is correct, but not necessarily in a positive way. Dogs were bred for so many different reasons over several hundred years, they're overpopulated now and come with a slew of health issues. Many people are just now realizing that rescuing a mutt could be the best option, and to me, it seems like you're here rooting for this breeding of pigs saying its real and implying it is okay.

    Hi, we have two grown up Micro- Pigs. In Germany the definition of a mini-pig is "any pig with a weight of 120 kilo or less". Since a few years there is the kathegory Micro- Pig. The average weight is between 18 and 25 kilogramm. The pigs are healthy and sporty. There are currently two possibilities to buy them in germany. One race is called "Bergsträsser Knirps" . And the other race of pigs has no name, but the pigs can purchased at Farmer Korte ( Bauer Korte) in Menden in Germany. Kind regardings

    how you carry your pig without them squealing? I cant pick up mine, she screamed so loud lol although we have good relationship, I can rub her belly, she like to come around and play with me but does not like being pick up from the ground?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад +42

      Pigs instinctively HATE being lifted off the ground. They have a lot of natural predators and being scooped up like that from above makes them feel attacked. I've never met a piglet that didn't start off hating it.
      The absolute worst thing you can do when getting your pig used to it is to put them down when they squeal. They are so smart and they will instantly learn that if they scream they get what they want (put down). It means the first few weeks with your pig will be loud and require a lot of patience! Hold her as much as you can, all the time, let other people hold her, wrap her in warm blankets, scratch her belly while you hold her, give her treats while she's being held. Eventually the persistence will pay off. My pigs actually BEG to be picked up and chase me around the house yelling for it! Lol

    • @kmundwiller3936
      @kmundwiller3936 4 года назад +1

      Tho I've trained some of our pigs to be held without squealing, there are some that just HATE it. And kick, throw their weight around. It becomes dangerous for me and the pig. So we just don't pick those up anymore unless it's was a dangerous situation (which so far hasn't come up) like a dog tried getting them or something.
      I have others who LOVE to lay I my lap, be held, etc.

    ahhh i have a “micro” pig and she actually just turned 5 months old yesterday! i haven’t even weighed her yet because she’s just so adorable i can’t even be concerned about her size. we have her on a feeding schedule that she seems to be super happy with and seeing that score chart made me so happy because her little rump looks just like the “ideal” size! i did so much research before getting her but other than that, kind of went into this hoping for the best and not knowing what to expect. but like you said at the end of this, she really is my best friend. she loves to cuddle and root and MY GOSH can piglets sprint! she brightens my day every day and i’m so happy i’m not the only one crazy obsessed with my piggy! also, i NEED this onesie!!!

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад +2

      I love that you haven't weighed her. People become obsessed with it and literally nothing else about their pig matters. I understand why ensuring you aren't going to end up with a several hundred pound pig as indoor pet is important, but beyond that, who cares! If you pig is a great pet and you've committed to giving them a home it shouldn't matter if they exceed the 25lbs you hoped for...they're still as amazing at 50lbs+! Thank you for being the best kind of owner!

    Thank you for being an advocate for animals. It appalls me how many people in this world treat their animals. We need more of us and with the dawn of social media, we can place increasing pressure on those who do not give their animals at least the bare minimum of care.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад

      I completely agree. To be honest, it gives me some hope to see how many people are actually just ignorant about the needs and care required for pets, versus malicious and intentionally causing them to suffer. Thanks in part to social media people are becoming more aware of what they're doing wrong and an inspiring number are apologetic and fix any errors immediately! I'm among them...reflecting on how I kept my pets as a child sadness me, but both my parents and I THOUGHT we were doing right by them! Education, and the desire to keep learning and improving, can make such a difference.

      I hear it every time someone who doesn't know me sees my pigs or a post I make with them :P It comes with the territory - every pig owner deals with it. The best thing you can say is that it does not matter to you. You love your pig and that is not contingent on their size. Then just live with the satisfaction that you know not EVERY "mini" pig is a scam and not ALL of them get to be 100s of lbs.

He leaves it in the snow in the cold, rarely feeds and he hits it and mom said she saw how the pig looked and it was heart breaking we are trying to get the poor baby. Are there any common health issues people should be aware of before getting a pig?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад +2

      "Common", not necessarily. Generally speaking they're a fairly healthy species. But, as with any animal, there are potential health concerns to be aware of and watch for.
      They are prone to skin issues - dry, itchy, flaky skin. They need to be wormed on a regular schedule to prevent intestinal parasites and topical mites. They need to have regular hoof trimming and some need tusk trims as well. They can develop pneumonia and other respiratory issues so making sure they aren't exposed to extreme weather conditions is important. Some small pigs will suffer from blood sugar issues which is why it's important to not skip meals. Hip issues are a problem in overweight pigs. Access to water at all times is crucial to avoid salt poisoning (when a pig is deprived H2O for a period of time, then gulps large quantities it causes swelling and pressure on the brain).
      Food, water, warmth and annual vet visits basically eliminate a good portion of those concerns :)

    Thank you for starting a RUclips channel!!! It’s so hard to find honest videos online and I haven’t been able to find videos with mini pigs that are older at a real full grown size. I’ve had people talk me out of getting a mini pig for the last 10 years because they say there is no such thing as a “mini” pig.
    I’ve heard pigs older than 6 months get increasingly harder to bond with your family which is why I haven’t tried to rescue a mini pig. Do you know of a reputable breeder? I’ve checked online but it’s hard to get perspective on size of the parents.
    Also, is a 100lb pig the same as a 100lb dog living in your house? I could accommodate a 100lb dog but I have no idea about a pig 🤷‍♀️.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад +2

      The uneducated mockery at the mere mention of wanting or owning a mini pig was a big part of the motivation behind this video. I was a little nervous to make it, due to all the criticism, but the lack of real information was too overwhelming! I’m still constantly having to defend REAL mini pigs against the stereotypes.
      I feel strongly that at least 75% of pigs that are acquired under the pretense of being a “mini” are a complete lie. This is what has created the “there’s no such thing” and “it’s going to be 100s of lbs!”.
      If you are careful and do ample research on a breeder you absolutely can find a real mini pig! Make sure the breeders pigs are over 3 years old. Ideally they will have multiple generations of pigs so you can see the size their parents are creating. Their piglets should spend a lot of time indoors and socializing. The nationally well-known breeders are generally reputable, but also very expensive. Your best bet is to try and find a great one close to you!
      Rescuing them is very challenging, unfortunately. They bond so closely with their owners and pick up the routines of their previous home which can be hard to break. Not impossible, but best for a seasoned pig owner.
      Honestly, I’m my opinion, a 100lb pig is easier than a 100lb dog! They’ll be much more compact, no shedding, no jumping on you or high energy levels. The hardest part is they can push your furniture around and squash couch cushions 😆 as long as their otherwise social, trained and friendly they’re quite easy.

Nevertheless if it has a chance of keeping him smaller by lowering testosterone, and improving his temperament from that same result as well having medical properties I don't see why I shouldn't give it to him. • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад

      Their diets can alter their size, but only in the way any animals can. You can certainly stunt or stimulate their growth, make them skinny or obese, etc... based on what they eat. However, it always has repercussions when they are over or underfed.

    UGH SQUEEE!! Theyr'e so freakin cute!!! Am i the only one who wants a *BIG OINKER* of a pig? Why does everyone want animals to be smaller and smaller these days? If you want a small pet then get a small pet. I have two jack russells and theyre itty bitty to my eyes and without gross amounts of inbreeding to deform them. Teacup is a fashion term, there is no such thing as a teacup anything. If you paid 5grand for a teacup chihuahua you got screwed and it's a sticking point with me because in my opinion no matter how common the animal before you get a pet you should have done enough research on it to know what its breed group is and its needs. Before every animal i have ever adopted i did months of research. This is why i like animals better than people.

    May I ask - how much space would a mini pig need? As in assuming it might grow to 50-60 pounds

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  6 лет назад +1

      The nice thing about them is they are fairly lazy. They like to be socially entertained and have their brains stimulated, but they don't need play or exercise like a dog. If the space is big enough for a 50-60lb dog, it's adequate for a pig as well. Keep in mind, I don't personally consider a standard chain link pen suitable for a dog or a pig. But the average size backyard or an apartment space is enough.

    I think you are so cute and loving and just a wonderful girl. I do have a question; when I bought my mini-pig Darly the breeder told me to feed her nothing but corn and I didn’t listen to him. When I got her home, I started to feed her homemade salads and Mazuri youth pig food. (Am I doing okay with her diet ? )or should I just give her corn.?.She seems to not like the corn anymore since I’ve been feeding her salads and the Mazuri youth pig food. She 4 months and I’m gonna say about 5ibs. Maybe less. Am I doing okay with her?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle  5 лет назад +1

      The breeder sounds awful, to be honest. Corn isn't BAD for them exactly, but it isn't good for them either. It doesn't have any essential nutritional value. It's just a carb with sugar basically. Mazuri and fresh veggies is great!

    • @AdriRachelle

      The only one I'd consider to be full grown and a representation of what an average, TRUE "mini pig" size should be is Fran. Bri, Scarlett, Grover etc.. are exceptionally small and shouldn't really be referenced...they're still growing!
      Fran is around 20lbs and a foot tall. Still very small, but also really an ideal height/weight for her. They're all different, her healthy weight wouldnt be right for a lot of my other pigs, that average about 30lbs. Some pigs "ideal" weight is 50lbs or more, there's no one size fits all.
