      That may indeed be true. This section will not be installed in 1 piece; it is similar to all the other bridge deck sections. There will be 2 edge girders, 9 redundancy girders, 12 precast concrete panels, and 12 soffit panels. Since this section is shorter than the other bridge deck sections, there are just 2 floor beams instead of 3. In a comment of one of the RUclips videos, someone in the Detroit area said that the 2 floor beams were already on site. The floor beams for this section are the same size as the floor beams for all the other bridge deck sections. Some or all of the redundancy girders, precast concrete panels, and soffit panels will be shorter/smaller than those on the other bridge deck sections. The 2 edge girder pieces are definitely shorter than the edge girders on all the other bridge deck sections.

      Excellent question, I was thinking the same thing too myself. The "Girders' are what you are referring too...are made of steel. Didn't you know that? What rock have you been hiding under? There is, another RUclips website of the "GordieHoweBridge" that the consortium who is building the bridge. It is a Canada made website the building and what and who and what goes into it. I, personally, check into all 4 RUclipsrs websites at all times cause 3-4 pl have droned it days of each other. You should not however take one site for all that is truth - because it is not. I am a former Windsorite, and for all these RUclipsrs to say or to video something different...well, they are taking their chances that I won't jump down their throat, but the only one I would trust is, BobJonesReality for giving you the honest to god truth, but even so, the Official GordieHoweBridge website lets you get a birds-eye view and why, but RUclips such as this and Micheal Anthony videos are another who goes in-depth, but does not speak to workers like the Canadian site.

      The floor deck pieces are called soffit panels and are made of steel. Each soffit panel weighs between 7,275 and 10,141lbs. There are 12 soffit panels for each bridge deck section. You see the soffit panels when the drones fly under the bridge deck. I have never seen a video showing those panels being installed. I would say that they are lowered between the floor beams with the on-deck crane and set in place. then welders would close up the seams from the top side of the soffit panels and/or from the bottom side using the work platform under the bridge. If you look at the 0:32 mark of this vide you will see a gap where the soffit panels meet a floor beam.

    Do the crews work exclusively on their respective sides?

    • @SteveR59
      @SteveR59 3 месяца назад +1

      This was taken from the Gordie Howe Internation Bridge website: "Once a physical connection is made over the Detroit River, the bridge is treated as an international crossing by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) resulting in both agencies having a presence on respective bridge sites and all individuals accessing the bridge deck - including construction crews - being subject to the rules and legislation for international crossings." It's unclear to me whether the crews have to stay on their side, but there is a point on each side of the bridge (or one point in the middle) where you will have to show proper identification/document to continue past that point. There is a lot of electrical work which needs to be done for the bridge lighting, as well as installation of electrical, fire suppression, drainage systems, barriers, signage, deck paving and pavement markings and complete the multi-use path. Whether crews will be subjected to staying on their sideof the bridge or not remains to be seen.

    • @Sandra-mw3yp
      @Sandra-mw3yp 3 месяца назад

      They will adjust the stay cables to lower or raise the roadway, as well as adjust it side to side. Also, the last fittings on the sides, I would imagine it's been worked out to to1/8" degree to where on how long both of the sides will be. Who will do the final one; who knows. At that point though, they still have to install the cross beams on each side, and install the pre-made concrete slabs that will join. Remember, the concrete poured inbetween the slabs have to harden approx. 1 week (depending on the weather how fast the concrete will cure - if the cranes are moved up too quickly before the concrete pour additives had a chance to harden (cure) will result in cracks to the surface, and thus erode the stability of the roadway) for the huge cranes on either end can move up and meet. Up to this point, there is a great deal of engineering perspective going on to meet up on both sides.

    Two questions please. First, the Canadian side of the bridge looks to be a little bit lower than the American side. If correct, is there a way that this can be adjusted out before installing the final tie-in section? And secondly, long span bridges like this can have problems with torsional vibration induced by vortex, shedding. Often times you see aerodynamic treatment along the bridge edges, but in this case, I don't see anything aside from the plate girders exposed to the crosswind. Does anyone know if there is any aerodynamic mitigation that will be installed on this bridge? Thanks.

    • @michaelmaehle1433
      @michaelmaehle1433 3 месяца назад

      I've been thinking that the Canadian side is slightly lower, too. They must be using lasers to ensure alignment. As to the torsional vibration, it appears the girders are being sheathed with smooth, angled cover plates which should prevent excessive wind loading. Moreover, the shape of the angled plating will deflect the wind down UNDER the bridge deck compared to OVER the deck, meaning it will generate some lift that will take the load off of the cables and towers. I'm sure they've done a myriad of wind-tunnel testing for the loading. What engineer can forget the Tacoma Narrows bridge?!

    • @SteveR59
      @SteveR59 3 месяца назад +1

      Regarding the first question, the stay cables will be re-stressed as needed to ensure adequate vertical alignment of both sides of the bridge deck. This will be done prior to the installation of the pieces for the closure section. Regarding the second question, there will be 2 temporary wind struts installed between the 2 sections, to hold the deck in alignment, until the last 2 edge girders are installed. I have not read anything that would suggest permanent wind fairing being used on this bridge.

      Thank you for the kind replies. I’m a retired engineer so of course I always have a few questions when I see things like this bridge. One thing I haven’t been able to quite work out from the videos and perhaps someone here can clarify is the following. Obviously the stay cables on each side of the towers introduce very large compressive forces in the roadway structure due to the horizontal components of the cable stressing forces. I am wondering if the roadway is anchored to the tower in order to counteract these horizontal forces and transfer them into the tower itself, or if the roadway is suspended in midair through the tower without contacting it, so that the roadway hangs freely and is not actually constrained. I would be grateful if someone could clarify this for me. Thank you.

    • @Sandra-mw3yp

      Don't know, but I do know, there are stairs inside each pillar. Remember, there is airplane lights on top of the Canadian and American Pillars with flashing lights to let pilots know that they have a weypoint, and not to hit it, that it is there; to took out for it and avoid it, so I would imagine that would be stairs to look after the electric table and other engineering points to consider- I think that it also inspect the cables every so often for signs of wear and tear, etc.

    • @SteveR59
      @SteveR59 3 месяца назад

      The lower sections of each tower have vertical ladders, with a step off platforms to get to the next ladder. The ladders are offset because the lower tower sections are not vertical. There is a elevator in the lower sections that rides on rails, following the slope of the lower sections. The upper sections have a vertical elevator as well as vertical ladders to reach platforms to access the stay cables.

      It's hard to tell how much the difference is in height without a view looking perpendicular to the edge girders and also at the same height as the edge girders. The last US section is missing the (12) concrete and stainless stell rebar precast panels Those account for over 600,000 lbs (300 US tons). That will help to lower the US side. Stay cables will be re-stressed, as needed, to allow vertical alignment of both sides of the bridge deck.

      When the St. Lawrence Seaway was being built in the 1950's, planners made a big mistake. They built it to the same dimensions as the Welland Canal, forever limiting the size of salties that can enter the Great Lakes.

    I always thought since the beginning of May, that this bridge will meet both ends the end of May or the first days of June.

    • @SteveR59
      @SteveR59 3 месяца назад +1

      So did I, until I read on the Gordie Howe Internation Bridge website that the mid-span closure section would require an "installation process taking approximately four-to-six weeks and multiple steps". Part of that time could be waiting on the 2 edge girder pieces. I don't know when they were going to determine the length required for the 2 edge girders but it takes time to make those 2 pieces and then ship them by truck from Quebec City to Detroit or Windsor.

      I kept hearing a couple different connection timelines lately like you said,May/Early June, late June etc. But it sounds like it is right around the corner. I think the pieces will be ready in a week or two then take a few weeks to install??? Stay tuned, I'll keep you updated!!
