- Hi Everyone, Help Requested through local charities: Samaritans Purse, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, World Central Kitchen, Hearts with Hands or HandsonAshevlle.org an organization I'm volunteering through or larger organization, The American Red Cross! 💗
PLEASE KEEP THIS POST AND COMMENTS ON SUPPORT, HELPING AND RESTORATION!!! We don't need political baloney right now. Period.
Note, I am primarily an Art Tutorial channel with some short videos of our local bears. So please consider that if you decide to subscribe from this video as you will probably get mostly art videos in the future.
I did put together a playlist for Helene, "Beginning", "During" and this video linked here: • Helene
During this devastating storm, I’ve captured some video footage of our immediate neighborhood and the impact of Helene on Patton Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina. While at the time, I thought our devastation was bad, it was only the day after I videoed this that I realized the impact that this tremendous storm had on our local community and towns. During the storm, we actually had Internet, then about 2 PM Friday we lost all connection to the outside world. The world became quite small going from country, state, town, community and ultimately neighborhood and families. At the end of it all, it’s all about the neighborhood and all of the neighbors pulling together. We have been truly blessed with some amazing people helping people and we are very aware that we are quite lucky compared to so many who have lost everything. I’m personally stunned by the devastation, places I’ve frequented now gone. It will be a long road.
If able and inclined, please donate to the American Red Cross to assist in people getting through this disaster.
Far fiercer. I agree. I'm at hwy 25/hwy 11, SC. My biggest trees are down on my property. My little 800 sq ft cabin was spared. Me and my pets took shelter underground in my shop and then got blocked in by trees. Neighbors heard me yelling the next day and got us out. No electricity. Charging my phone by car. I'm grateful to have water. Thanks for caring, to help others.
OMG a harrowing experience for you for sure thank goodness for neighbors once again. I have posts on Facebook where I am giving my neighbors credit for being angels who helped us extract a tree from our roof. We had a gigantic white oak probably more than 10 tons fall directly onto the corner of our roof, and we were managed to get it off ourselves earlier this week. What a freaking mess.
Do you need anything? Im right up the road?
Dont worry big Joe got this give him 4 more years
Revelation 7!!!🕊
I drove from Sunset, Sc to Charlotte on friday am and can’t even wrap my head around what I saw and how in even made it home
I not only pray for the people, but for all of the animals.
Thank you Linda, they are truly impacted as much🧸

@@LouiseMcKayArtYes, do not sell. The government is going to be after the lithium underneath Asheville and Kings mountain and the quartz underneath the Spruce Pine. They're already wanting to start bulldozing, I think in Chimney Rock and all the bodies haven't been recovered yet. 😭
I started thinking about the animals watching this. The wildlife. I can’t imagine what terror they went through. Of course I thought about people first. I live in Sanford NC and I’m 71. I never seen anything in our State like this. May God Be With Everyone. It breaks my heart.
@@jeanmorell76 for sure Jean, this storm was out of left field, thanks for your support!🧡
@@LouiseMcKayArt you’re welcome ☺️❤️
My state has been burning . I hurt for the animal lives lost..You are a special kind of person. to consider them. May god be with YOU.
We came from Western NC, actually Bat Cave, and opened the Baybreeze Seafood Restaurant in Sandford, NC in 2000. We missed home, so we sold our share and came back and live in Hendersonville, NC. Our town is in Hendersonville. The owner of the Baybreeze Seafood Restaurant here was flooded badly by run off water from Patton Park. That creek is Brittain Creek which normally is ok, but flooded several businesses on hwy 25 in Hendersonville...Stay safe
The animals have no choice but to run, hide, and if they survive, think about what caused this suffering, and why did they have to suffer. How many lost their families, and will now have to battle through their lives as best they can ? May all, humans, animals, fishes, birds, and plant life, be blessed with the courage and strength of spirit, mind, and body, to live past this horror, and never be faced with another such for the rest of their lives. ❤❤
I live in Florida and the flooding was devastating! We have another hurricane heading toward the west coast this Tuesday/Wednesday. Praying for everyone that was in the path of Helene!

Geez Louise, there’s a lot of cleanup work there! I’m in South Australia and Asheville was on our news yesterday. Thinking of you all x
Wow Wendy, not a good way to be known, but this has been a tragedy and the worst are the areas washed away by water, flooding and mudslides, tragic and loooong recovery for sure
From Ohio..., I watch Australian Weather changes, with the seasons, as the Oceans send it relentlessly. I'm Glad you survived your bad Government. PEACE Ya'll
It's overwhelming.
Asheville is about all that’s on the news . As always they are not showing the reall devastation .
@@jasonpinnix1905 unfortunately those in more remote areas are suffering the worst but help is coming
You reminded me of the aftermath of Katrina. Living in Baton Rouge, no electricity, hot as hell, windows open. All night helicopters rescuing survivors, bringing them to Baton Rouge hospitals, shelters, gymnasiums or morgues. All night long helicopters. Unbelievable damage from Helena. The saddest thing I heard, I know there are many tragedies there - a man videod the beginning of the storm, feeding his pigs, the rising water, his wife in sheer distress. Then they skipped to the aftermath stating they lost everything, even their lifestock. My heart sunk for the pigs. So helpless. Humans too were helpless.
So sorry and stay strong 💪

…sounds like the same video I saw? Girl begging them to leave? Diverting water with haybales? I believe he lost quite a few chickens and turkeys, but the pigs were fine - at least I’m pretty sure I saw them feed some of the lost fowl to them. ❤

Excellent video documentation. Fire wood forever.and you must feel like early explorers of the 1700's
For sure, surreal at first with no power, blocked roads everywhere only on foot accessible, it’s way better already and yes firewood forever!!!

This is a different perspective on Helene. Didn’t just effect those in the valley. Wow! Thanks for sharing and you all are in my prayers. God bless!
@@BarbaraPalmer-m5i yes, the mountains experienced this storm differently, probably forgiving in the end, but the trees uprooting and snapping and landing on homes, including our own, was pretty bad.
Here in Hickory, NC residents are cleaning up our own roads. The city is buzzing with chain saws.

Thank you, Nancy, I am typically a Art and bear nature channel, and the only reason why I shared any of this storm is because my subscribers knew I live in Asheville and they were asking how everything was going. I’m only sharing my experience because I do not want to feel like I’m exploiting anyone else’s which there is plenty of it. There are whole sections of our town that are wiped out and there are neighboring towns that are completely gone. It is a tragic, unexpected and, horrible circumstance that we’re going through, but it does bring out the best of people.

I evacuated Katrina / Pearl River, LA. I went home to SoCal and never went back. Yes, this is your Katrina. Its surreal what is happening back there. Thank you for documenting!
Thank you for being understanding, and seeing my little neck of the woods. I appreciate your support.
I was with my sister who was hospitalized with kidney failure during Katrina. A limb broke the window and there was rain blowing in, but most of the workers were gone to try to collect their children and save their own skins. I really understand. Thank you, yes, our friends and many neighbors did not have water and it was early on. We started to realize they needed water to get them. Our friend also mentioned they needed a chainsaw and unfortunately our chainsaw was way too small for the tree that needed cutting up, so we ended up walking back home the route shown to see what the level of devastation was on our road
I am glad to hear that you and your husband is okay. So many people have been impacted. 🙏

Very difficult to eat my dinner tonight. My friends were finally located today. I can’t stop the tears. Poor tree people! Praying for people & animals. RIP those who didn’t make it. Gone never forgotten! ❤️🙏🌹
Those who wasted our money should be held to the fire. Maybe executed for crimes against humanity! We are being killed at the hands of demons/fallen angels. They want the billions of dollars in resources in that area. Be real the people were in the way. My friends would not give up their land. Just like Maui they will destroy everything to take it. We must put a stop to weather manipulation. Since when do hurricanes reach the mountains. We better wake up damn fast. Before none of us are left. We are in the way. Look at us Indigenous/Indians. You are being removed just as we had been. They aren’t giving you reservations but graves. I pray humanity wakes up. Sending healing, love & light to all life! ❤️🙏🙏🌹
So Glad your friends were found, let’s stay positive and focused on finding everyone
And that would be Biden and Harris who gave emergency management funds to the millions of illegal immigrants so there is no money left for the victims of the hurricane in North Carolina……..yeah……great job, Biden and Harris.

I’m in eastern NC. We have felt that devastation every couple to three years.
So sorry, this was a storm I’ve never been through before
Not discounting your storms, but this is Mount St. Helens bad with an exponentially worse death toll.
@@LouiseMcKayArt It is heartbreaking. I. The aftermath of Hurricane Fran, we had to empty our entire house in less than 8hrs because of flooding. Friends of my husband brought their enclosed trailers so we could take our furniture & other things. They even helped us pack up. I was pregnant with our youngest daughter at the time. It was another high risk pregnancy due to placenta previa. It didn’t help that I have Lupus, Sjogren’s disease, I’m legally blind. I have a small amount of light perception but it is limited to a few inches in front of me. My peripheral vision is severely limited too. We stayed with my late mil for a few months.
Later, she & her brother were out seeing the damage in nearby areas. They happened upon a house that had no damage other than some shingles &. The inside areas of the garage; the garage damage was only because there was no garage door. It was empty & on the market. We had been house hunting before & after my pregnancy became complicated. It took a couple months but we closed on the house mid November that year. The friends who let us use their trailers also helped us move into our new house by Thanksgiving, but not before they replaced all the flooring as a combination house warming & baby gift. It has been nearly thirty years ago. The most damage we’ve had from hurricanes since moving here has been lost shingles & the remaining of three Bradford Pear trees. Water has rose here from subsequent hurricanes. Though we’ve never had it anywhere near our home.
Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to loan our generators to friends & family. We only have two these days. We have a small one that we use if we’re a few days without power; the big generator is pulled out when we’re out of power for weeks to a month. At one time, we had several generators at one time that my husband used for his work. He ran his own company, so in the hurricane season, we were able to help others. So, these days we donate a case of water, lightly worn clothes, food stuffs, & others. I always felt blessed by our home. My mil & her brother weren’t out looking homes for sale. They stumbled onto it, which to me, means we were meant to be here. It is part of why we help people who have less, especially families. We’ve sent water & added a bit in donation for people here to get to the people who need it in the western part of the states.

I didn’t look to see who posted this and I thought I know that voice! So stressful to see the devastation caused by Helene. Our thoughts are with you Louise and your community. Love from Australia.
Thank you so much, I only captured some of these images because I was entranced by the storm as it was going through due to the power, it was so powerful. And then people were asking me how it is so I just recorded after we dropped off at a friends house, they asked us to bring a chainsaw to help cut up a tree that ultimately was far too big for our chainsaw. on our way back down, we decided to go the long way, on the regular drivable road to see what the condition was since at the time we had no communication to anything and no way to see anything without walking. And I just pulled out the phone and started recording what I was seeing. It’s already far now as our road on the backside is clear and we’re able to drive out, but the first few days were horrible. Sometime I’ll get back to the art channel. I actually have a video ready to go that I had posted, but I feel bad posting it.
Wowwwww!!! The amazing power of wind and water! And you’re exactly right about this event grounding you to refocus and know what is important in this life and world! So thankful you guys are safe!!!
Thank you so much, sometimes we need to wake up call!
3 Cedar trees were blown down in my yard & all up & down on my dead end road. I watched out my kitchen window as several trees smaller than the cedars as they fell. Limbs down everywhere power, transformer blew up about 5:30 a.m. on Fri. the 27th. Power poles broken, trees & power lines blocking the road to get in & out of where we live, pouring rain, sustained winds of 29 mph with gusts of about 50 mph... for several hours.
Scary
It's so much worse up in the NC highlands. My heart breaks for these communities!
Thank you so much for this video. Glad yall are OK.
💕🙏
Stay strong , yes this storm was unrelenting and powerful. We had 3 trees alone miss the back off our home by 10 yards but one huge oak dropped on our roof! We managed to get it off 3 days later thru diligent chainsaw cuts
I went to New Orleans two weeks after Katrina. From what I've seen so far they are much like twins. without the levies Once the trees and roads are passable, then the real work is going to begin. Removing mud from inside homes, gutting the insides of drywall, kitchen cabinets, kitchen appliances, beds so on. It's why many so many left their homes and didn't come back to fix them in New Orleans. I so wish I could come to help, too old now. I wish yall everything good
Thanks so much Dennis, knowing our limitations is wise, mountain strong!
I live in the state of Queensland, Australia. This is reminding me of the 2011 floods that devastated our state, and it’s a very big place. 😢
You are all in my family’s thoughts and prayers. It’s going to take time but people are resilient and come together in times of need and slowly life will return to normality. 🙏
Thank you Lonnie, we’ve made great strides already, but the water impacted areas are going to take a long time, big drain on resources and slow recovery for many
@@LouiseMcKayArt I understand what you mean. There are people here who are still trying to get compensation they are owed through insurance and government payouts because flood mitigation was left until too late. I live in the state capital and it was an unholy mess for quite awhile. It’s not just the precious memories lost. It’s also the psychological scars. So please take of yourself and step back even for an hour or two so you don’t burn out emotionally. Best wishes. 🇦🇺
My heart is breaking 💔
Mine too, but got to work and that helped
Sending strong prayers 🙏🙏🙏!!!
Thanks so much🧡
Last drone in at landfall showed 158mph winds= CAT 5. Two large, blocking systems to the east and west acted like pin ball bumpers with an open zone right up between them, where it moved through like a freight train. Years worth of rain in some areas because the Gulf waters were hitting record heat - hot water is hurricane 'juice'.
And this was bigger than Katrina by a 100 miles
Take care and be safe. I hope the bears are ok.
Ya know, this coincides with our experience, winds primarily started coming in from the east, and then after while, it was almost swirling with a wicked wicked gust, and eventually it came in from the south and that’s when one of our trees came down under our house. Tons of rain 2 days leading up which definitely juiced up the ground, hmm
I have such fond memories of Asheville and surrounding areas. I am 81 live in FarmVille. I am praying for you all. I lost everything in Floyd in 99. I understand and my heart goes out to you all.
Thank you, Nancy and sorry about your losses over 20 years ago, we appreciate your support now🧡
Thank you for sharing the devastation! 😢
Thank you Luv, i’m just sorry I need to share. I was only sharing my Chronicles because my subscribers on RUclips are asking for it. I do have two short videos from earlier this week show that before, the during, and this is the aftermath.
Their habitat has changed too
For sure, we’ve seen many many bears wandering around like they were in a twilight zone
@@LouiseMcKayArt poor things n ppl.
I used to live in Franklin and Otto,N.C. and I remember Irene and how it wiped out Peaks Creek.
I would depend on those mountain folks, more than the gov.
Bless you all
I'm sooooo glad to know that you're alright!!! God bless!!!
I’m so heartbroken for all these people I can’t stop crying!
Oh I’m sorry, people have definitely been hit and this is just my little area. If you’re interested there are some local charities in the ground you can help out…Samaritans Purse, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, World Central Kitchen, Hearts with Hands are others
I keep thinking about all our animals in the mountains and where they went 💔💔💔💔💔
For sure, it took a couple days for even the birds to return!
This is heartbreaking to see
I go every weekend to what I call
GODS COUNTRY..

What a terrible storm, very sad to see those beautiful old growth oak tress comedown. I’m glad you are safe, and I really enjoyed your video.
Thanks so much Robert, I really appreciate your support, old oaks didn’t fare well.
