I never started my solo adventures until I was in my 50’s, after raising my children I started to travel and while I never camped, I still did everything with a backpack and two pairs of shoes, lol. Looks so wonderful and peaceful there at night, thanks for sharing.
The first time I went solo camping, it was a backpack trip. I was 19; I’m 65 now. I have done other solo trips, by car as well as backpacking. Each one gave me something different to take away with me, sometimes very profound revelations. I have found it to be very worthwhile.
Very nice video. Couple small tricks is to make the fire pit smaller. 12 inch round is fine for one person and dig out the pit 3 to 4 inches deep and push the dirt against the rocks. Holds the heat longer. The other trick for the sleeping pad is hang it upside down from the valves over the tent against the sun. The sunlight heat inflates it for you;) Also just a small grate can be placed over a portion of the fire and heats the water for making dinner. Just some old guy hacks)
I've camped out in the Alabama Hills on 4 separate occasions and it's ALWAYS AMAZING. The place is just so awesome to hike around and I've told a handful of friends and co-workers about it. It has to be seen in person to really understand just how special that place is..... Good for you Catherine for solo camping, my last two camps were solo also. Thanks for the video.
I spent 20+ years camping, fishing, and hunting in the Owens Valley from Lone Pine to Bridgeport. Beautiful area with a rich history. Happy adventures, be safe.
What a truly awesome place with Langley, Lone Pine Peak and the Whitney Crest towering above. Can't wait to go back to the High Sierra this August! Thank you for sharing!
The Alabama Hills Thousands of movies were filmed there. Your awesome love your trips. I been almost every spot you have gone to. I love the way you bring them back to me. I have been all over the Sierras since I was 5. God Bless you Catherine
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures yes they do bring up fond memories Backpacking Camping Fishing with my father years ago. I still go up there and I love it. Saturday and Sunday I was watching my parents 85 and 80. I thought to just RUclips the Sierras and Vedio of little Lake Valley popped up. Well Catherine my Dad Mom and I watched you for hours. My Dad was laughing at times and cried at seeing the beautiful. Wow thank you thank from the bottom of my heart. You really touched my Mom and Dad. God Bless you so much Paul. From Northridge
Very enjoyable video....soothing too. Great pictures of sunset and sunrise....loved the rock formations and your commentary especially. The best picture I thought was of you next to the campfire looking up a the star filled sky.
Once in a while I like to go camping with people, but I love solo camping! The majority of my camping videos are solo. You're on your own time and, like another person said, you aren't listening to someone else's rambling. Love your view! Thanks for sharing!!
Just went on my first solo adventure in Yosemite this past weekend -- such a great experience! Though it was much more packed where I camped. Comforting for a first trip, but hoping my next trip is a bit more isolated. LOVE your channel! Constantly inspires and motivates me!
Enjoying your own company is NOT being lonely or a loner. I just wish I had learned this decades ago. Glad you got to enjoy some alone time Cat. I am starting my road adventure next summer. Can’t wait.
That campfire was the best way to start my day, Cat. Thank you for sharing your first overnite adventure with all of us. You`ve come a LONG way, gal, since this nite. Happy Trails !
I’ve never been backpacking or camping as an adult, but I did travel from Alabama all the way to Seligman, AZ by myself in my Prius!! I’m in my mid 50’s but have a very adventurous spirit! Next step is to go full time camping, like you, when I retire!! Woot!!!!
Catherine, you are such a trooper. I "discovered" you just a few months ago. So, today I took a look back to see what you were doing a few years ago. You did a great job on your first vblog. I love your calmness and gentle approach to life. It doesn't hurt that you are such a good looking lady. So, stay well and God speed. Looking forward to many more adventures.
Very nice video! Glad you enjoyed your solo camping trip! I really liked your hike with the music such a great landscape to explore and the Sierra in the background and with Whitney can't be beat! Much there to explore and much to photograph! It's also fun to hear all the critters at night! ( also, I commented earlier on a potential collab video )
You are very inspiring and good at this. Your eye for light and color is awesome! Im gathering up my stuff to start backpacking again thanks to your videos! I day hike regularly solo and with living near Sedona AZ...there are plenty of trails...I love hiking with others, but timing is often an issue. Good to get both in. Thanks again and I'll probably go watch another one of your videos now. Lol
Hello, I just stumbled on your channel. I started solo bicycle camping 2 years ago. I couldn’t find people to go with so I just stopped wasting time and went and now I’m hooked. You learn so much about yourself when your solo. Enjoy your next solo camping trip.
carol martin that is awesome! Way to go girl. I find inspiration in that. This was a great first experience for me. Thank you for checking out my channel and for your comment!
Another beautiful video. Thanks! Most of my adventuring is solo. Hiking, camping, backpacking trailering. Being alone is underrated. There are worse things than being alone. Enjoy!
Nice video! Made us feel as though we were there, too. Thanks for taking us along.:-) yes, I've done several solo trips and it really does allow you to connect with yourself again. I hope to do parts of the Colorado Trail this summer by myself. I've got some new gear and can't wait to try it out. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2018. Have fun out there!
Hi Karen! Thank you for watching and welcome to my channel. Nice to hear about other females getting out there solo. It really does help you to connect with yourself. I've done a lot of hiking solo, but never an overnighter. I definitely learn something about myself each time. I haven't spent any time in Colorado, but I do know it's absolutely beautiful! Happy hiking! Thanks for checking out some of my other videos, as well. Much appreciated!
Congratulations on your first solo camping trip. After one gets over the fear of backpacking alone, the next issue, and maybe more difficult for some, is learning to like yourself and enjoy you own company. There's less scheduling conflicts with solo backpacking and if the other person bails you can still go. Your night picture at 17:12 is off the scale beautiful. Really enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much Bryan. I didn't bore myself, so that's a good sign. haha. I really respect you so any time I see you comment I really take your words to heart. Thank you on the photo. I really love when I have an opportunity and just the right conditions to grab a shot like that. It's doesn't happen often.
Well thank you Catherine! Forgot to mention that when you were building that fire ring I was thinking where is she going to get fire wood? Guess the joke was on me. When my son was 18 he did his first solo backpacking trip. I hiked in and met him the second night and asked him if he was afraid the first night. He replied "not when I was by the fire." Campfire, aka backpacker's TV!
Returning to this video...because I am a big advocate of solo camping...just something spiritual about it..,..I am getting ready to do another solo campout...cant wait!
+Hike with Mike I’ve got to get back out on a solo camping adventure myself! This was my first and I haven’t done it since. I have been thinking a lot about it though and where I will go next.
I've never gone on a solo back packing trip, but I've gone on a number of solo bike packing trips (overnight to a nearby lake). There is something really relaxing being on your own. With a group, the dynamics are much more complex and problematical. Groups are fun, for sure, but I like the simplicity of a solo trip, too. Bike packing has forced me to be a lot more careful with what I carry, so now I should try that with back packing! Your videos and photos are really nice. Very professional and clean. Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us! Carry on.
I prefer solo over anything else, even though I usually have friends/kids in my vids a lot. I feel like I can find myself when I'm alone in nature, make sense out of my little world. Another beautiful video, Catherine. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Steve. I do see you getting out there a lot alone. I think that's awesome. I know you've shared in your videos how much you appreciate that alone time. It us a great time to reflect and wort things out. Hope all is well.
Kudos for taking the step toward solo camping. Trusting yourself to make the right plans and then seeing them come to realty is very rewarding. It will build your confidence as you continue to test your experiences. Just keep learning and have faith in what you know to work. I have been camping and backpacking with other friends as well as taking solo trips outdoors for over 40 years. So glad you are having fun. Btw love your full brim fedora.
I watched your video and purchased me a Kodiak tent. I lost my mom last month and watching your video inspired me. I'm going to get away from New Orleans and camp on my land in Mississippi while I build me a cabin. My camping may be a little different because I have a lot of solar power but I need this time alone. Thanks a lot. If you ever want to get away party in New Orleans then camp in Mississippi ride the ATV's give me a shout you can bring your husband
Yay got the first one under your belt. They get easier trust me. I know I say this all the time but am so jealous of your backdrop. Just epic views and mountains there. I actually love doing solo trips because I’m on my own schedule and can adapt better. Plus I tend to film more footage. Congrats on this one. Was fantastic
Thank you Chris! That’s one of the reasons I really wanted to go solo. I’m always concerned about making sure those around me are comfortable and when you’re solo, you only have to worry about you. I am spoiled with some incredible views. I will for sure be doing solo trips in the future.
Loved this one. Solos can be intimidating, but doing a car one is a great way to start .... Especially because you can bring lots of firewood!! You will be solo packing in no time. I love fires as well, and can sit and watch them for hours. I agree ... They are memorizing!!! The rock formations are truly unique, and your starry photo is stunning!! Your eye for great shots always amazes me. I know I always tell you this, but it's true. Your videos are some of the best of all the hiking/backpacking RUclipsrs because your photos literally take us there with you! Great work. Also loved the lantern. Maybe you should post make and model # of that so we know what not to buy!!! 😎😎
Thank you so much for the kind feedback! I appreciate it. I should post about the lantern. I can't even remember where I bought it. It was fine for about a handful of times, but that's not enough. lol
It's great to go on adventures with other people but there is much to be said for the solo experience. I have several solo trips in the Alabama Hills and it is always a great time for personal refection and the inner peace the solitude brings
Beautiful place. Great photo of the night sky with you in camp in the foreground. That place might be great for astrophotography with your DSLR. Thanks for the videos, nice trip.
Great job, first solo. That's why I noticed is how black out dark it can be sometime. I'm so glad to review your older posts. Thanks. Mt whitney is on my agenda for August 2018. Happy trails.
Hi Rayanna! So glad you enjoyed the video and that you found it inspirational. I've had to overcome a lot of fear to get out there. It's mind over matter. Thank you for watching.
Catherine, in most cases I go on solo adventures, because it gives me so much freedom. When I do so, I'm not really alone, the infinite beautiful nature is with me! :D I enjoyed this video too, just like all the others from you I've watched so far. I'll keep following you! Best of wishes! ;)
I'm a middle aged woman, just started going on solo adventures, I try and step out of my comfort zone each time and I am always glad I did. Sometimes I get scared of the "what if's" but try and keep that in check lol. I was so glad to see this video and give you so much respect knowing how hard it is to do....next season I want to go on my first multi-day solo backpack adventure...I look forward to more videos...very well done
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your comment! Welcome to my channel. I am so excited to have a women comment. I only have about 20% female subscribers and I'd love for that to change. Please feel free to jump in any time. You said it absolutely perfectly. That is exactly the same thought process that goes through my mind. Good for you for getting out there. You know what? It's never too late. Keep me posted on what new adventures you have in store. Thank you so much for watching!
Much more than solo camping: an awakening Find it odd how the mind works when all alone solo camping. I have found that I go into this zone of very alert thought, that can lead to peace and an occasional a odd over sensitized mild fear..... It's when you re-enter the norms of life that you finaly can understand what that peace or fear meant to you.... And your longing to to do it over again .... You Rock!!
I really enjoyed you first solo camping overnight. I pray they were able to find, assit and all is well with whom ever the helicopter was searching for.
What a cool place!....the night sky must be amazing there!.i love my luci lights when i backpack and solo camp.there is nothing better then a solo camping adventure....i crave it a lot it is really a spiritual adventure for me and it recharges my soul and you discover new things about yourself...like my last solo adventure i discovered i could remain calm in a dangerous situation and that is good medicine, i hope you enjoy more solo adventures!..be safe and enjoy!
I'll check those lights out Mike! I know you solo camp all the time! I thought about you actually. It was inspiration. I am so glad you remained calm in that situation. We want you around for awhile. :) I think I'll be getting out on more solo adventures for sure!
Catherine Gregory oh you got to get the luci lights they are awesome about 15 dollars each super lightweight snd solar powered!!!! One of my must haves anytime i camp!
Count me as one who really likes the quality of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your adventures. That was a very interesting question you posed. I guess mood has everything to do with how I like to spend my time in nature. As a guy, I enjoy the solitude of solo backpacking and car camping. Since my wife does not get into that, it is easy to get away. I found the solo trips gave me a chance to reset my thoughts about a variety of life issues, and, also to test equipment, food, etc. However, I also realized having a friend along would be desirable as well. I have found that I don’t sleep as well on solo backpacking trips when no one else is in the area. (Especially in areas where cell coverage is absent). Ironically, I have had more problems with things, such as critters, when car camping, than when solo backpacking. Go figure!
Thanks for your comment Anthony. It's nice to have both options available. I do agree with what you had to say about solo trips. I always hear about bears hanging around the campgrounds in the Sierra. Almost every spot I've car camped at, I've been warned by the camp host about bear activity. It makes sense since it's a more condensed, populated spot with human food. lol
No bears. But, raccoons, a road runner, and the dreaded mice in the car! 3 mice! Worst sound ever to wake up to in a car. The sound of rustling from inside the car. Fortunately, I was able to capture them, 2 of the three survived to rustle another day. LOL!
I can handle mice. However, something like rats would be another story. LOL! Actually, mice can do a lot of damage to a vehicle. Mainly chewing on wiring, especially if the wire insulation is made from soy (as I have read), not to mention their poop. I have heard, though, that country mice are cleaner than city mice. But, that isn’t much consolation! Ha!
This is my first time to actually get to sort of converse with someone on RUclips. Thanks. I wanted to ask if you have ever hiked or camped around Boundary Peak on the Nevada line? It is that state’s high point. It is near the area of the eastern Sierra that you have visited. Btw, FYI, I am in Houston, Tx.
Very nice video, Catherine! Yeah, I am a lone wolf camper...love bushcraft camping with a simple tarp, a pad and a wool blanket. It's nice to see you enjoying your camping adventure. It's amazing what an adventure like this can do for one's soul and spirits. Great photography, too! BTW I love your hat. I have a very similar one that I picked up in Silverton, CO. If you ever get the chance take the Silverton Narrow Gauge train ride from Durango to Silverton. With your photography skills you will capture what I call God's backyard. You will also find incredible camp sites along the way.
I had people tell me I didn't bring enough on this trip since I was technically car camping. lol I have the mind of a backpacker, so it actually didn't even occur to me other than the firewood. I knew I wanted a fire and there would be no wood here. Thank you on the hat. It's my favorite hat. I'd wear it backpacking if I could, but it's not very practical. I'd love to do a trail ride some day. That sound awesome. Thank you for watching and for the kind feedback on my photography.
Hi Catherine! Great scenery! I almost headed to the Bristlecone Pine Forest (near Big Pine) to solo camp over Thanksgiving but got caught up in Santa Barbara days and rhythm. I enjoy solo camping and camping with friends. I hope to solo camp in the Alabama Hills over the winter holidays. This past September I solo camped above Mammoth/Coldwater area. I hiked up behind camp for my first Sierra Hike since having heart surgery 1.5 years ago. All went well and I am feeling healthy. This summer ( I am a teacher) I hope to camp throughout Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Some adventures might be solo, others might be with friends. Either way the wild is calling for me to connect. Thank you again for sharing the great images.
Hi LoriLee! I haven't been up to Bristlecone, but I need to get up there. I hope you get a chance to camp in the Alabama Hills. I'm looking forward to going back. When you say Mammoth/Coldwater area...you must have gone up by Barney Lake? Or maybe Heart Lake? Glad you are recovering from surgery and good for you for getting back out there. baby steps. I'm envious if you get to do those trips this summer. I may get back to Yellowstone and actually backpack in the spring. I'm hoping so. Thank you so much for participating in the conversation. Glad to have you here.
Hello Catherine, nice car camping set up. You could have used a large beach umbrella to protect you from the sun. Somehow I missed this fine video. It may have been before I subscribed to your channel. Many old western movies and tv western series from the 50s were filmed in the Alabama Hills. You have become quite an adventurous outdoors person. Dryer lint from the clothes dryer with vaseline works very well also. When making cocoa don't forget the marshmallows. Please take care out there and always have fun. Congratulations on your first solo outing. 🤗
Thanks for the tip for a fire starter Ronald. Yes...the Alabama Hills are quite unique and beautiful. I can see why it was a location for so many films.
Haaaaa funny....I did notice an evolution from beginner.....to you definitely evolving in knowledge of hiking...camping and photography and coming into your own unique style....which I love.
I love solo adventures as much as being with someone. To me its so nice to just enjoy your own thoughts and enjoy being out in nature with the peace n quiet of it. Love the video!
Just watched this solo camping video, your picture of the night sky and your campsite is stunning. I look forward to watching more of your videos, thanks for sharing. It appears you have backpacking experience so trying a solo trip should be fun for you, just try something short and good luck
azcolby40 Thank you so much! I appreciate you stopping by my channel. Working up the courage for solo backpacking. This was a great first solo experience.
What a fantastic site you found! And i was happy to see that your lantern still worked! Re: solo camping... my wife really likes to go hiking/camping solo... as long as i go with her!!! Haha
Hi Catherine. I thought I would chime in, since you asked for input. I really enjoy solo camping and backpacking. I've done several solo trips as long as two weeks. There is something about depending only on yourself for survival that is very empowering. It really builds self confidence and allows one to become one with the natural world. Cheers! and safe hiking!
ME , MYSELF & I - Best camping buddies , except for my German Shepherd , he doesn't talk much but always great company and he's always on alert ! Good job , your a brave girl. I have female friend that went solo Elk hunting in Utah about a month ago at 1am to get set up for a early start. She was miles away from anyone , no moonlight , hearing howls, no cell service , she lasted 1 hour, back to sleep in truck until dawn.
I love German Shepherd's. I had one growing up and he was the best dog ever. So, so smart and loving. Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words.
Thank you Jason. It's a really great spot for camping although it is primitive and first come first served. Great place for photography so it seems you might really enjoy that aspect. Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Great adventure video, Catherine! It isn't the lightest accessory, but I recall REI designing that chair with backpacking in mind. But as you've mentioned, comfort is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to weight. Anyways, your video makes me want to check out that side of California again. Cheers!
Thank you Edward! It is a lightweight chair and one can certainly take it backpacking...I should have clarified that I don't want to take it backpacking. lol Thanks for watching.
Awesome location,,and appeared to be great weather. Was thinking it looked like a good setting for western movie, then you filmed the horseback riders...Solo camping is the best..being one with your thoughts and spirits ..until next time....stay safe and God Bless...
That's got to be such a neat landscape out there along the eastern flanks of the Sierras where that enchanted Mojave desert surrounding Death Valley rises up so dramatically to the snow capped high alpine Sierras beyond. Can't wait for an opportunity to get out that way myself for a visit, but I have so much here in Utah to still experience and discover too.
WasatchWill it really is a magical place. I hope you have a chance to see it for yourself. Utah is amazing too. I’ll have to check out your channel. Thank you for watching!
Awesome Video! Really enjoyed watching this video, I’ve been soloing for 2 years now ... and actually will be visiting Alabama Hills this weekend I’m super excited never been there I usually just get to Mono Lake Yosemite is my backyard but 2020 I will explore the Easter Sierras!
I almost always go backpacking alone. I prefer it because I am in a business where i talk to people all day. Being alone in the mountains or woods is an amazing way to get your mind right for you. I have one friend that i backpack with and only because he enjoys the quiet as much as i do LOL
I did my first solo camping trip this weekend out in Red Rock Canyon State Park. I must say when I first thought about it, I was a bit scared. Once I got there and set up for the night, I felt much better, much more relaxed than I thought I would be. It was a fun experience and like you said I'm even thinking about a solo backpacking trip. Cheers!
Between the lantern and your grin after tossing your sleeping bag in the tent I laughed alot. :D Looks like it was a beautiful area for your first solo. ETA: wait, you never said what you thought of the beef stroganoff!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!!!!!! That lantern spring!!!! LMAO!!!! I love that chair. I just bought one on Labor Day. That's a good tent you got there. Looked like a Big Agnes tent. I have MSR, and The North Face tents for seasonal camping. Glad that you love your shell camper. I'm doing a van life to make solo music across the USA. I will be moving to Austin, TX to take some courses there to grow in the music industry. Good luck what you love doing in life out there.
Most always solo, I prefer...I drove to Alaska from So. Cal. last year hiking through most of N.P.s to north, drove down through Jasper, Lake Luise, and Banff in Canada, put 9300 miles on my car I did 75days trip to China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos alone then to hike Kjerag Bolten and the Pulpit Rock in Norway, went on to Island of Gotland and explored the Viking's stone Hendge" Stenar stones" in Sweden then to experience Christiana Hippie town in Demark past Sept. My next solo trip will be Africa in Jan. then in May next year I am going to hike to Himalaya base camp. I have so much Gopro's and photo shots to upload, have to learn how ....still....Age 71, challenging task I think. You done marvelous job. Thank you!!
I tend to camp with others, even backpack with at least my daughter. I wouldn't be averse to solo camping though and should give it a try! I love this video!
I live in Colorado, Love to fish Colorado/Wyoming. I ususally sleep in my Jeep, feel way more safe in it, have thought of tent camping but have not made that step yet, we have bears lol. I know the odds are a long shot but that is what enters my head when I'm on my trips, I usually go alone, hard to find someone to go along. I love to fish but I go for the Scenery and just getting away by myself, Trout live in beautiful places, love exploring new places.
Congrats on the first solo! I remember mine and not going to lie it was a bit scary at night (of course I was in bear country haha). Hope to hear about your first backpacking trip soon!
Christie M bear country is only a few miles from here so I did wonder if they might wander down to this area. I have backpacked many times in bear country, but never alone. That’s awesome that you get out there solo. It’s women like you who inspire me. Thank you for watching!
Great video Catherine! Just happened to come across your video and really enjoyed it . I'm heading to Alabama hills around Christmas time. Hope it's not too cold by then. Keep up the good work!
Thank so much! I'm heading back soon. It's getting very cold at night in the higher elevations (although no snow), so the A.H. is a great place to stay a little warmer.
I say it every time but that was stunning! Superb location and you shot it beautifully, I’ve just got to get there someday. I’ve been having a lot of strange dreams recently about the Mojave, no idea why. Good firelighting skills btw, you can’t beat nature’s television.:-) It’s already been mentioned but the luci lantern is fantastic for camping or backpacking. Look forward to the next one.:-) Mike.x
Hi Mike! Thank you so much. It's not bush crafting, but I have learned a few things from bushcraft. haha. Yes, you do need to get out here someday. I think you;d love it.
I haven't camped out in many years but one day I would like to hike across the Grand Canyon and I will have to have a tent so I can stay in the canyon. We'll see. I'll have to make sure I bring all the gear I will need.
Fabulous video! Can I say I have zero interest in solo camping? Not sure what that says about me. It is VERY interesting to hear your thoughts on solo camping and your videos was beautiful. We've been to Alabama Hills twice and it IS BREATHTAKING.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. It is absolutely okay for you to say you're not interested in solo camping. It's not for everyone and I totally get that. I love the Alabama Hills and can' wait to go back. Thank you for watching.
I don't mind having my mini chair on backpack trips at all. Worth it's weight for the comfort at the end of the day. I've paired down my pack to justify it's weight with no regrets. Great area to live so close to!
Hi Brian. Yes...I shouldn't have said you can't bring it backpacking. You certainly can take it if you are willing to carry the extra weight. It is a great little chair.
Love your videos! The Alabama Hills are an awesome place to camp solo, although it can feel pretty lonely at night. I spent some time there before my Mount Whitney summit a few years ago and have been planning to go back. I love getting out by myself for photography (especially for astrophotography) with no pressure to keep anyone else entertained. I recently started putting together videos of my hikes, but I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera. You are great at it by the way. :o). I’m looking forward to watching your next adventure!
Thank you so much Maryann. It's taken awhile to feel any sort of comfort level in front of the camera. I still see scenes where I feel I look stiff. I've been making the videos now for over a year. I can see that I have gotten better with time. Good for you for summiting Whitney! That's on my bucket list. I can relate to what you said about being alone for photography. I'll take a look at your channel. Would love to see what you are doing. I am so glad to see some women participate in commenting on this video. I knew I had some female subs out there although I've had very little interaction. Thank you for your comment and welcome to my channel. I hope to see you comment more often. :)
I never started my solo adventures until I was in my 50’s, after raising my children I started to travel and while I never camped, I still did everything with a backpack and two pairs of shoes, lol. Looks so wonderful and peaceful there at night, thanks for sharing.
That’s wonderful Pamela! ❤️
The first time I went solo camping, it was a backpack trip. I was 19; I’m 65 now. I have done other solo trips, by car as well as backpacking. Each one gave me something different to take away with me, sometimes very profound revelations. I have found it to be very worthwhile.
Thank you for your comment Caroline. It took me a lot longer to get our there solo, but I guess it;s never too late.
The sunlight heat inflates it for you;)
Also just a small grate can be placed over a portion of the fire and heats the water for making dinner. Just some old guy hacks)
Thank you!! Love that hacks and I appreciate the tips. I'll give 'em all a try. :)
So glad you enjoy the videos Paul. I hope they conjure up fond memories for folks or take them to places they've never been. Thank you.
God Bless you so much
Paul. From Northridge
@@paulwise3001 thank you so much for sharing that! Stories like these are why I love making videos.
Very enjoyable video....soothing too. Great pictures of sunset and sunrise....loved the rock formations and your commentary especially. The best picture I thought was of you next to the campfire looking up a the star filled sky.
Thank you Mike. I appreciate the kind feedback. I really like that photo, too.
This lady is bad ass she carried all of that gear with a 20 liter back pack. That takes endurance and stamina to do that. Awesome love the video
What a sublime landscape! Solo camping is so peaceful.
It truly is. I just learned that. :)
Thank you! Yes! 4 solo backpacking trips under my belt since this trip. :)
Thank you 🙏!
Thank you so much Chris. I will be going back for sure. I'll check out your comment.
Enjoy!
Agreed! Thanks so much!
Love that Bryan. Thanks for sharing that story.
Thank you Wes for sharing your wisdom. I really like what you said. II'll remember those words.
Catherine, exactly! People also tend to say one thing when they really mean another and I hate dealing with that so being solo gives me so much peace.
I love solo camping/adventures!
Great information and views are fantastic. Thank you.
Amazing! I love fire starter hacks that are simple, easy, inexpensive, lightweight and that work.
It really works like a charm and has never failed me.
It was fine for about a handful of times, but that's not enough. lol
Such a gorgeous place and you captured it absolutely beautifully.
Thanks so much Dan. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very inspirational video...great message
What a beautiful campsite you had wonderful pictures.looks like you really enjoyed the tranquility of it all.thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching Derrick. It was a magical spot. I'm ready to get back.
I love going out alone and with ppl done it all the time enjoy what we have wile we can
What a fantastic area"
So" beautiful place.
Thank you for sharing this !
Glad you enjoyed it Rudy. Thanks for watching.
Love your video!! I'm going on my first solo trip to AH in a few weeks. 🦉
Life starts at the edge of you comfort zone :-)
That was awesome. Beautiful scenery.
Thank you!
What a beautiful place! Loved the shot of the stars at night.
Thank you! I'm happy I was able to get that shot. I appreciate you watching.
Headed down to Alabama Hills in 2 months. You have increased my desire to go, thanks. Nice images.
Awesome! It is a really great spot. Thank you so much.
It's great to go on adventures with other people but there is much to be said for the solo experience. I have several solo trips in the Alabama Hills and it is always a great time for personal refection and the inner peace the solitude brings
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I just watched a hike you did with Joey and you had some beautiful shots in that one also!
Beautiful place. Great photo of the night sky with you in camp in the foreground. That place might be great for astrophotography with your DSLR. Thanks for the videos, nice trip.
Tony Pierce thank you! I did shoot that image with a DSLR. I’ve seen some amazing astrophotography from this area. Thanks for watching.
Great job, first solo. That's why I noticed is how black out dark it can be sometime. I'm so glad to review your older posts. Thanks. Mt whitney is on my agenda for August 2018. Happy trails.
Thanks for watching John!
That was an amazing video... enjoyed every minute of it... thank you for the words of encouragement... I'm feeling inspired... thank you 😊
I enjoyed this video too, just like all the others from you I've watched so far. I'll keep following you! Best of wishes! ;)
Thanks so much for sharing. Thank you also for watching.
Thank you so much for watching!
dml505 catherine has an awesome channel solo camping is a spiritual experience just make sure you are protected with gear for your own peace of mind
Thank you Mike and good advice.
I look forward to your videos and will for sure!!
Much more than solo camping: an awakening
Find it odd how the mind works when all alone solo camping. I have found that I go into this zone of very alert thought, that can lead to peace and an occasional a
odd over sensitized mild fear.....
It's when you re-enter the norms of life that you finaly can understand what that peace or fear meant to you....
And your longing to to do it over again ....
You Rock!!
That is so true Christian. Well said.
I loved the scenery and that evening sky looked very relaxing.
It's a beautiful spot. Thanks for watching.
LOL!
@@AG-gk2pf lol. Mice are so small and harmless, yet they freak me out.
I agree with you Kyle. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
Hi three, great to see us girls getting out on our own. I find the solo time helps me to reset, which helps with the daily grind. Thanks for sharing.
G0ingNative that’s exactly what it did for me. I’m excited about more solo adventures ! Thank you for watching! :)
Very tranquil and congratulations on your first solo.
Thank you Eric. I think I may do my second one real soon. :)
Your videos are very helpful and inspirational. Thank you.
Thank you Tony! I'm glad you enjoy them.
Haha
Hahaaaa...now that was funny. Thanks so much Mike!
Awesome to see that you are solo camping! I did my first solo trip in August. Coming to Alabama Hills for my first trip to CA in 2 weeks :)
Julianne Davis awesome!! Hope you enjoy my home state. :) Happy New Year!
This is exactly what I want to do. Great video
Hi Steve, Thanks so much for your input! I'm thinking of doing another solo trip in the near future. I agree with what you say about solo time.
Wow, spectacular place to camp! Looks like a really great getaway!
Roughing It With Ruth it was awesome! I should have stayed 2 nights. Thanks for watching.
We took a day drive through there and will probably go back with our travel trailer. Thanks for the video.
It's a great place to camp with a trailer. :)
ME , MYSELF & I - Best camping buddies , except for my German Shepherd , he doesn't
talk much but always great company and he's always on alert !
Good job , your a brave girl. I have female friend that went solo Elk hunting in Utah about a month ago at 1am to get set up for a early start. She was miles away from anyone , no
moonlight , hearing howls, no cell service , she lasted 1 hour, back to sleep in truck
until dawn.
I love German Shepherd's. I had one growing up and he was the best dog ever. So, so smart and loving. Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words.
Nice video lots of beautiful scenery, I will have to add that area to my bucket list of locations I want to visit.
Jason
Thank you Jason. It's a really great spot for camping although it is primitive and first come first served. Great place for photography so it seems you might really enjoy that aspect. Thank you for watching and for your comment!
I might just a little :)
Your filming is ALWAYS STUNNING! That is DEFINITELY a piece of your calling!👍👍Was this before your truck camping???
Awesomely beautiful place !!
It really is. Thank you for watching.
Awesome location,,and appeared to be great weather. Was thinking it looked like a good setting for western movie, then you filmed the horseback riders...Solo camping is the best..being one with your thoughts and spirits ..until next time....stay safe and God Bless...
rockytop wrangler many old westerns were filmed here with some big stars like John Wayne. There is a film museum in the nearby town of Lone Pine. :)
Cheers!
That's awesome!! Sounds very similar to the emotions I went through. Red Rock is beautiful. Good on ya for getting out there solo!
Between the lantern and your grin after tossing your sleeping bag in the tent I laughed alot. :D Looks like it was a beautiful area for your first solo. ETA: wait, you never said what you thought of the beef stroganoff!
Tim Watson hahaaa hope you were laughing with me...not at me. lol Glad you enjoyed the video. The Mountain House was tasty!!
Thank you so much Joseph! Good luck to you too!
Great adventure, super video....thanks!
Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Wow!! You’ve done a lot! That’s awesome!
Took a solo trip to the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota last year. Had a great time 😀
Awesome Carrie!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I tend to camp with others, even backpack with at least my daughter. I wouldn't be averse to solo camping though and should give it a try! I love this video!
Thank you Jessica!
They shot a lot of those old black and white Roy Rogers movies there. Looks so familiar!
Just tent camped there for 4 nights.. Great time👍👍
Lake Havasu ☀️ AZ
awesome video...inspired me to make this trip next week.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great trip!
It's getting very cold at night in the higher elevations (although no snow), so the A.H. is a great place to stay a little warmer.
fearless, nature lover
You are wonderful !!! Thank you !!!
Thank YOU! :)
My first camping adventure ended up being solo my girlfriend canceled weeks earlier. Anywho it was awesome can't wait until the next
Everything happens for a reason as the saying goes. :)
Look forward to the next one.:-)
Mike.x
Camping in the Grand Canyon is an amazing experience. I’ve backpacked there twice. Hope you do it!
Oh crap! I'm in love ♥️😘.
Lake Havasu.
