Can I recomend a wet towl on the deck to reduce stress on the fish that will be released.
I live and fish in the Tropics and I know the deck carpet gets siziling hot and takes the slime straight off the poor fishy.

you might want to attach it with assist hook next time..because i just used this squid about a week ago..at first i just do like you and i got same problem too..dropped a lot of fish so i put 2 assist hook and not a problem anymore..out of 10 strike,only 1 get away..

Yeah I don’t think it really matters, but yea if it starts getting tears after a couple fish I just switch sides to get some more life out of it.
@@bowlysfishing Ha ha, been there done that. You could also argue, turning it over makes it more visible with contrasting colours.

In my opinion you lost some of those fish from being too ruff around here Humboldt County California coast if you hook a big ling cod or cabezon and bully it too much they will pop 50 plus Tess like nothing straighten supper strong hooks an when I hook big ones I try an let them run a bit while keeping a bite of pressure on them so your line don't go slack but that's my opinion
