    Hey checking in. A long time ago I found you and fell in love with your charming style and wonderful videos and happily as my life has changed and not all for the better, I noticed your videos have not. Still fun to watch informative and charming as always. Still have that great voice and you haven't given up on making some of the greatest content on youtube. I hope you are well and you have a great Christmas or whatever you enjoy it to be and you keep up all of this quality content and as always I hope you are happy. Cheers

      I am really sorry to hear that some things haven't been working out for you, I hope the year ahead can resolve or soften what ails you.
      Thanks for checking back, it has been an inconsistent year from me due to factors largely outside of my control, hopefully I can be more consistent this year and steadily improve, hopefully without any more massive issues with my software or youtube.
      Thanks for all the kind words, feedback is always appreciated.

    The "OmniJoin" adapter set is not an adapter that anything has to fit with; it's literally half a cable, where you're supposed to cut a pre-existing cable and attach through the OmniJoin.

  • @esoel
    @esoel 7 месяцев назад

    Omni join in this case means "just strip the cables bare on the other cable" you don't need to strip them on the noctua fan because they provide that adapter with bare wires on one side, the pc-fan plug on the other, and little adapters to join the bare copper cables. So yeah, omni means omni in this case, joining bare cables is not a proprietary adapter...

    The fan claims to support PWM, but how do you use that to control the fan speed? Is there a manual adjuster on it somewhere? Or is it done via software?

      Sorry for the late reply, I have yet to dare connecting it to a managed source, I generally just use them to cool fanless devices via usb or to help keep dust away from painted models, also powered via usb, I am intending to use one of noctuas cables to lower voltages and see if it has any discernible impact, sorry to be both late and not very helpful.

      Is there any way to use the noctua Controller wirh that fan and use it on a 5v usb connector?

    • @joeythefoxxo
      @joeythefoxxo 2 года назад

      The fan has 4 pins. Power + (5V), Power - (ground), PWM (speed control), and RPM (for the device to measure real-time speed). The device would have to work similar to a PC, giving and reading a PWM signal. The only difference is the device this is plugged into is not 12v but 5v. So to answer your question, this is all done through software, and is a specialty fan. Using the USB adapter will only allow full speed, and will no matter what 5V fan you use. You could buy a voltage reducer and lower the voltage slightly however.

      Interesting thought, Noctua used to supply low voltage cables, that'd be one way of testing, If I can find one I will let you know.
      I don't have a way I can think of to implement gradual control over usb voltage via any other means though.

      This is the only way I have used it, I havnt tried running this off of a managed source, it uses a different voltage to onboard pc stuff, but I can confirm that most usb charges should power this, I have had no issues.

    I gotta ask...
    Being that retail laptop cooling pads are crappy... I'm going the DIY route.
    You're using a USB fan from Noctua... So I thought I would shoot my scenario by you.
    The stand I bought can only take 80mm fans in one spot because of the elevation arm mounts... I'm considering all the options here.
    So... Wondering if 5V fans will be enough...
    How will 2 or even 3 fans be able to do the job on a single 5v USB cable setup? I'll have to Y cable these for sure.. But that makes me think these 5v usb fans won't do so well
    I have some usb 5 to 9v& 12v converters. I do know this cannot be used with these 5v Noctua fans though...
    Should I have purchased regular fans for this application? Or will these 5V fans do the trick without a hitch?
    I'm thinking I need different fans.

    • @RebusForever
      @RebusForever  4 года назад +1

      I would expect they would run, if anything, potentially slower, I have been looking for my spare noctua cables for a while with no joy, If i could find them, noctua make splitters and various other random bits of cable and connector, I should be able to test 2 fans if I could find the bits I need...
      I also realise I am two weeks late replying, if however, knowing the answer is still useful, lemme know and I will have another look around.
      The fan in this video is a 120mm 5v, they make 80mm 5v also ( in case you didnt know).
      Sorry for the late reply, if you moved forward with your project already, I hope it went well.

    • @joeythefoxxo
      @joeythefoxxo 2 года назад

      Depends on if you already have 5v fans or not. If you do, they will work just fine. Two of them only draw an amp, which is what most USB ports put out, with many newer ones putting out 2 or 3 amps now.
      If you do not have said fans, you can buy 12v ones and adjust the voltage to exactly where you like it. If you want to overdrive them, I wouldn’t go over 14v. You can even under run them down to 6v to get super quiet gentle cooling. I found 10v has the best quiet to airflow ratio, although everything depends on your setup.

    Your excellent presentation skills are better off used with complicated products, such as mobile phones laptops and such. Presenting simple products like this, you tend to talk too much. I spent more time fast forwarding this video looking for "substance" then actually watching it.

      Thank you for your reply, I appreciate the kind words and for taking the time to comment.
      That said, I can't deny, when I originally decided to include tech on this channel, it was because of a long history of building computers and getting an opportunity to spend time with newer tech more often, unfortunately, owing to factors, I had to stop building computers for folks and thus only have access to random bits of tech I can directly justify acquiring, annoyingly my timing for setting up the channel was poor, im still running a fury x for instance...
      So I actually fully agree with you -re the preferred tech subjects- It's just not possible atm, that aside, I do love noctua products and as such felt that I could justify a subjective gush.
      In the future I am vaguely hoping to integrate more tech over time as options increase, I fully intend to replace my gpu as soon as possible (within the year hopefully), so fingers crossed for some more significant tech content at some point.
