BOTY 2015 - 1 VS 1 QUARTER FINAL 2 - SHIGEKIX (JAPAN) VS. MENNO (NETHERLANDS)
The Battle Of The Year has come a long way. Who would have thought that BOTY would go from starting out in 1990 in a local youth culture centre with 500 hard-core fans to an arena packed with more than 12.000 roaring spectators and Bboy crews from all over the world? We are glad to still grow and contribute to the culture. That’s why we are holding more than twenty worldwide qualifications each year.
BOTY 2015 was huge - and our aim is to keep it growing, evolving and pushing it to become the best Battle Of The Year we can possibly achieve, to once again prove that the event has earned its position as a pinnacle of the breaking and Bboying scene.
After more than 25 years we felt it’s time to change something and move on again. That’s why we are saying goodbye & thank you to Braunschweig. We can’t wait to meet all of you at new places in 2016!

Was live there and couldn't believe my eyes when the judges gave the win to Menno.

The crowd really went insane in his rounds. Everybody was screaming and shouting propz.
Menno repeating his shoulder flip all the time. Meh.
Fortunately the judgement was better later in 2vs2 B-Girl finals.

1.) When did I say that the only criterium for a winner is to wow the crowd?
Of course creativity, foundation moves, dancing on beat and making no mistakes / don't crashing count also.
2.) The crowd often feels instinctively / "by the guts" the energy and the flow of a dancer. Even when people don't understand what's more difficult a turtle or a hollowback.
It's the vibe.
Don't forget that bboying is a DANCE.
If it would only be about the difficulty of the moves everybody would spam non-stop series of air-flair variations.
3.) And yeah, a headspin entertains me 1000x more than Menno's boring shoulder rolls.

I think the only reason shigekix lost is because he did the same footwork but apart from that i think he should've won because he was nailing those beats but respect to both bboys

however Menno was following the music (try to really listen, you'll see) whereas Shigekix was spamming halos and tapmills at almost all sets
you may say "yes but menno was spamming his slides and rolls too" okay, but this is his weapons, not basics. huge difference
+Ace Rayders Shigekix has a good level but he took a lot of moves from Hong 10, so menno had to take it

Round 1: Menno (He threw out a ton of incredible moves and transitions)
Round 2: Shigekix (Close, though)
Round 3: Shigekix (Easily)

I'm not a big fan of doing battles at the Mall's, 95% of the crowd doesn't understand it so what you end up with is a video with few people acknowledging the moves etc... The one positive thing about the mall is that you might just have a kid that watches it and is inspired by it and they get into it and i like that about the battle

wow, im sorry shigekix ... you got robbed. i dont get how menno won rbbc1, i dont get any other events he won. sure hes talented and got real nice flow but i have never seen him stick a freeze, imo every set he does hes just flowing and rolling, there is footwork but barely, power move? he use to do them like flares but not anymore. i liked the old menno, he used to be a bad ass. again sorry shigekix maybe next time.
I like the way Menno danced here compared in the semi final and final. Still he should have lost this one! PLEASE CHANGE THE JUDGES WHO ARE JUDGING HERE AND IF THIS IS A FIXED MATCH INVESTIGATE! DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN THIS 2016!
