Question for you all. I feel like all of the top American players (Johnson, Jack Sock, Fritz, Querrey, etc.) have really weak backhands compared to the top Europeans. But comparatively, they have big spin forehands. Is the current coaching system in the U.S. to really de-emphasize focusing on backhands? Is it because of Roddick's moderate success? He had a strong spin forehand, but his backhand was pretty useless.
Not to generalize all American Coaches but at the end of the day it's a Job or source of income for them. As such they are coaching to their audience, inpatient American Parents, who want immediate results or will look elsewhere. The easiest way to get "good" is focus on developing a weapon rather than developing a complete game. Just my two cents. Also a majority of Americans grow up on hard court meaning shorter points and less shot point construction.
Fritz has a great backhand, Tiafoe has a great backhand, Paul has a solid backhand, Sandgren is probably just as good off that side as he is on his forehand. Maybe the majority of Top US pros have better forehands but I feel like most players prefer their forehands anyway. Also, saying Roddick had moderate success is pretty insulting imho. Winning a slam, reaching 4 slam finals and being ranked number 1 in the world are extremely impressive accomplishments.
Lol at my academy everyone had shit backhands I went to the academy where jack sock trained if you know what I’m saying. They taught us the windshield wiper forehand and not much else
A lot of it has to do with the fact that clay isn't widespread in America. Also, the clay that we do have isn't as slow as Euro clay. Clay/slow courts really encourage consistency and groundstroke development for kids. People go on and on about how slow courts and baseliners are boring, but American kids really need that foundation. You start with a consistent stroke, ALL STROKES, then worry about offense. Americans tend to do that backwards. That's why you see some juniors with forehands that look like a million bucks, but they can't win.
Luis Alberto Valdez Ayala big serve and great forehand and a really good slice. He wins this match if he used his slice backhand but he decided to try out and work the two hander which is very undeveloped
I'm honestly just using my phone, which is 2 1/2 years old. I'm sure there's other gear out there that can shoot 4k 60fps for cheaper, but I haven't tried them. Even cheaper if you go 1080p as long as you still can shoot 60fps.
I like Steve J. personally , but his backhand reminds me of everything that is wrong with American men's tennis. You should not be running around your backhand at that level. We need clay courts in college and private clubs. European players so much more well rounded.
Steve Johnson is the only American player with a non existent backhand and other than Jack Sock, who actually hits his, other Americans have good backhands. Benoit Paire and Richard Gasquet are Europeans, do they have good forehands?
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry the video isn't good. I'll probably refrain from posting my other videos from Newport since they also quite long as well.
@@12kgpTennis Your current video style is excellent, I personally like longer highlights cause I feel involved with the match without watching for hours
Do you think that Johnson is thinking, "Man, just a few weeks ago I was playing Fed at the Aussie Open?"
The camera angle, resolution, and editing is just amazing. Thanks
thanks for the upload of these matches, love watching them
14:36 that was wide
True, was there live and the ppl I asked said wide too. It does suck on crucial points like that one, but it's part of it.
I dont think I've seen a backhand that wasn't a return of serve
3:59 what is this wii tennis
Great video quality..i luv watching all ur videos
14:25 the ball skidded off the line
Good as they are this also shows how much better the upper echelon pros really are. They are UNREAL.
I wonder if Stevey’s 2nd serve from ad court wide became too predictable?
Wow there was that one great point, wait nope this was tough to watch

Sandgren has an amazing backhand. Would want to emulate his if I had one haha

lol those shoes are goated
Amazing video! Thank you very much for editing! Please tell me which camera are you using?? Thank you
Video is just on my iPhone. Also edited it on there as well.
What app are you using to edit?
@UD Racing - edited using LumaFusion app on iOS
good video!
Indian Wells 2020 is less than a month away. Let me know what videos you would like to you, or what ATP/WTA players you would like videos of
Andreescu/Sinner
I would love a video of novak court level. Even just practice
Tommy Paul
Jannik Sinner
SJ playing this to maintain ranking - tanked 3rd set to 100 plus player
He is on the tour to compete. I don't see him winning a big tournament. Not whitouut a backhand. He has a tremendous big serve, that's it.

i like thai-son
i want to become a player like thai-son
Johnson sometimes just looks bored with tennis
Nice, looking forward for Indian Wells.
I'm surprised that Johnson ACTUALLY HIT two-handed backhands in this video!
He’s trying to work on it atleast but honestly his slice is so good idk if it’s worth it
Ethans his slice can’t carry him against the top players. He really should develop some sort of backhand. But who am I to judge. He’s a pro I am not.
What's the cheapest possible camera for filming videos like this (what could you recommend?)

Kwiatkowski is a great player. A bit unpolished, but that 1st serve, FH, and slice are crazy good. Top 20.
some of those slices down the line were pinpoint accurate.
there were so many bad calls in this match

Nice!
21:16 was wide and Johnson knows it. Key missed call. TSK got hosed on that.
looks like it just hit the line if you go frame by frame (use , and .)
@@karmaDS2 Yeah, I got the wrong time code embed. I meant a diff serve that was a wide "ace" by7 SW to the deuce court.
when did Johnson switch to an Ezone from Vcore lol
Not a Vcore! That's just a new paintjob that Yonex released for their Ezones. Johnson still plays with the Ezone 98.
@@jonathannguyen6264 I suggest you read my question again ;)
Hans Rindswurst it is the Vcore they released a blue one
Thai Son Viet Nam 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
0:52 was so in Lol
which blade 98 v7 use Kwiatkowski?
I can't be the only one who thinks these are video game uploads.
intense speed. Johnson chokes a bit under pressure situations.
This guy is afraid of his backhand. Hopefully we can once again produce an american tennis player who is solid on both sides
Agree , to me, more clay in the answer, not have big serve/forehand dictate until it is too late.
Yeah like a roddick or courier or smth
I like longer point and so I'm not on the tour 😂
My favorite thing to do is just hit back and forth from the baseline endlessly lol
00:19:10 = "ORACLE" = 😉
There are so many unnecessary moments, the video is so long
Jannik Sinner I wish there will be a full match.
