You already have the answer to your problem Brooke. Temporarily fence off areas and put your goats in there. After a few days, they’ll do the cleanup, then move that temporary fence beyond and you keep doing that for a while. Eventually, they will chew all the undergrowth up.
Most states have some sort of program(s) that help small land owners properly manage their land. I am a forester, and just by observing your video it clearly looks like your property is overstocked. Overstocked land causes the existing trees to be stressed out from competing with the existing resources (i.e, water, nutrients, sunlight). Stressed trees will eventually die out, and when they die eventually create an environment for potential catastrophic wildfires. Your property needs to be thinned out and then prescribed burned. Southern forests thrive on prescribed burns which help prevent underbrush, return nutrients to the soil and helps more sunlight reach the ground for more suitable undercover such as native grasses. Try contacting your local county or state extension agent to see if they have any state/county programs that may assist you.......
Hi Brooke! We live in East Texas and own a 130-acre ranch that is totally wooded. My husband has had help from a local burn boss and National Parks and Wildlife to perform controlled burns. Each burn works to eliminate the undergrowth. Our ranch looks amazing after a few years of this process. The areas are full of native wildflowers and undergrowth. It does need to be redone every 3-4 years here due to the Yaupon that we have. Then, when you get it cleared and the green starts back, you could bring the goats back. We dont have goats, but we have talked about it. The wildlife on our property is thriving. I would suggest calling the colleges near you who have forestry programs. It's a great resource for not only information but also for students who may want to be involved to help. All the best from our home to yours!! ❤
Don’t you mean “ Yaupon “ instead of, Youpon, ??? I have never heard of it so I looked it up and was corrected. I'm going to assume, that's what you meant.
I live in East Texas also. I have wanted a small place in the country where I could grow a garden and have a few animals. You are so blessed. Enjoy that country spot
What a sweet Mootilda. That is a baby that feels 100% safe, secure & majorly loved. All that Brooke & Jason provide for every single one of their animals. This is one of the best farms on social media. I'm so thankful & blessed to have found them. Y'all are totally amazing. Please take care, be safe & God bless 🙌 🙏 🙌 ❤❤❤
My grandparents had a lake and I loved walking through the woods, I know it probably worried my grandmother 😊 You are so blessed to have all of that beautiful land. I bet the cats took at least a day to clean their fur.
Cat panties !! 😂😂😂 oh Brooke no matter what you do I enjoy it so much. You, Jason and everyone and every animal at Cog Hill are just wonderful. You have everything you need right there on your 40. Oh gracious. Life is beautiful. Thank you for the walk along today. Y’all be good ❤
Morning everyone, one thing I have noticed about Matilda is when she first got there. She looked sad and in pain. But after being with Brooke and Jason!! Yall just look at her now!! She running, amazing for sure!! She's got the Cog Hill love and that is special ❤❤❤❤❤
Its called steroids.Back in 2010 my wife was wheel chair bound , arthritis in her knees was so bad her dr couldn't physically bend them. A steroid injection to each knee and a day or so of manually bend8ng the knees she was taking daily walks. Then after a month or so she was back in the chair awaiting knee replacement surgery. The steroids are great but they often wear off
I loved walking in the woods with you Brooke. I've been reliant on a wheelchair for about 15 years now and I miss visiting the woods. Mootilda looked so content snuggling up with you. She really is a most beautiful little cow. 🐈⬛🐄🌼💜
I would suggest having someone to come in and mulch up all that privet and junk. Then assess the trees on the property to determine what is there. Anything healthy and native, stays, all else goes. Then in selected areas, plant more native plants. Since you have a good area that needs to be managed, I would break it 2 acres at a year or something like that. In addition, I would work from the property line in towards the middle and get it fenced. Also, I would be working to clean up your little favorite creek area. I would move out downed branches and logs and bring in some rocks and such. Fix you up a better crossing spot and turn it into a nice little watering hole to hang out around.
They do take Family walks Both Jason & MC or Brooke & MC Jason used to film but got DeMonatise from using a long blade knife. But really they have No Time. Their too busy New Animals as the Farm grows More work. Trying to get a little Family time in. Health issues .No Time..
That’s was I was thinking…bring them back to original pasture at night I saw Bri on morrow hill her goats ate the little pasture down in no time..they love that kind of stuff
Could it be burned? Oh my gosh I was laughing so hard when you said Sylvester almost jumped out of his cat panties 🤣🤣🤣. I never heard that before. Thanks for the laugh 💜💕. Give all your babies a hug for me 😊
Loved the cat panties remark!!!! The barn cats are like the dogs and keeping you company. Great way to start the morning with a good life. Amazed with all the woods you have. Thank you for sharing.
The NRC will probably say the same thing. Gradually clear out the land using your goats. As time goes by you could reintroduce native plants and possibly plant deciduous trees like oak, hickory, etc. This way with the oak and hickory you'll provide some forage for wildlife.
"but goodness Sylvester just had his first experience with a fallen limb and he just about came out of his cat panties" oh god oh gasp I cannot breathe. Brooke, you are adorable and your way with words is delightful♥
I remember this little spring creek when ya'll bought the property and even back then, I envisioned how wonderful it would be if you could clean out the undergrowth and create walking pathways that intersected each other. You could plant naturalizing jonquils, daffodils, crocus, iris, etc. in pockets throughout the park. Maybe even place benches along the paths, near the spring and creek and here and there solar lighting to light the paths. Can you imagine MaryCarl someday bringing her own children down here to play in the creek and holding her little babies hands walking along the path? Wow, my imagination took over for a second. Sorry, it's just that I love nature so much that I can't imagine doing anything else to this area. Whatever you and Jason decide will be right for you and the spring creek; you two always seem to make the right choices in design and practicality for your farm. I. just think you two make such a powerhouse of a team ! I can say your channel is my favorite and look forward to seeing Mrs Cog Hill Farm and Cog Hill Farm videos show up in my favorites. Have fun, stay warm and healthy and am looking forward to seeing what you decide for this bit of heaven. Love to you all. Grandma from Texas
It was such a wonderful walk to the stream. I'm surprised at all the cats. Lol. Wonder where your security team went, though? They are usually following you, too. Thank you for sharing, Brooke.
It's definitely a goat buffet back in the woods. If you used the movable fencing, would you want to ask Catherine to bring over her herd to help in the removal of the invasive foliage? Also, is it safer to do this while it's cold and snakes have gone into their dens?
So fun to watch this video. Those cats felt safe to explore with their mama. And jumping out of their cat panties🤣🤣🤣🤣 hilarious. There is a lot of beauty back there. Thanks for sharing. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I would just let the goats out there during the day and move them back at night up by the barn. They would have a blast and use some temporary fencing to keep them contained do one area at a time. That's what they do everywhere else. My only concern would be once you open that up and make it more manageable for you to walk you also make it easier for predators.
I wouldn’t say the back 20 will “never”be like the front woods. Several years down the road who’s to say Mary Carl might want to build her a home on the back 20 for her & her aviary & any other critters she might have by then. At that point I can see the whole property being used 😀 I just adore the Mootilda cuddles. She is the sweetest thing & to think, without you all she might not have had the chance to grow up to love & be loved. What a blessing you all are! ❤
Hi Brooke, Good Morning y'all! This was so much fun for this old girl! Oh how I loved going into my woods and exploring. You took me back to when I was much younger, say 7? In June, I'm coming up to my 77th birthday, so I've drifted back 70 years! This moment, I'm still abed. It's early here presently. My husband just started our pellet fireplace and is headed to make coffee. You might be wondering why I'm not doing it. Well, can't get around real good anymore. Have to use a walker.I have troubles with my knees and back. He has taken up cooking with me being the sous chef. Dear Brooke, I know you understand health issues. I declare we both have husbands who love us and take watch over us. We are blessed in that way. Take good care and hello to Jason. Love all y'all. Even though we love in a suburb, it's borders CA State Park area, so we have lots of deer and birds to enjoy. I love hearing about Mary Carl's expeditions. 💙❤❤ 🐄🐎🐓🐔🐣🐤👣🐾🐾🐦🐝🐞 Affectionately, Kathryn, aka the chicken farmer's granddaughter.
What a beautiful area. I hope you can have a way to make it usable without tearing up the area. Too bad you can't fence it off and have the goats help you clear it up. I know Lester from Long Horn Lester used to take his herd and clear up his property. It helped him too with feeding them, since they are grazers and love munchin on all that stuff. I love your nice little natural spring that goes through there. It so pretty and so peaceful. Thank you Brooke for taking us with you on your little walk about. I hope other people have some ideas that might help y'all with that area. God bless.😊❤
Oh my! You and mootildas cuddle session was the sweetest things ever. I would just wanna be hugging on that all day myself. You can see in her face she is so content.
Since you and Jason can put up temporary fence the you could put some of your goats inside of the fence. They could clear out the bad vegation and then you could move the fence to the next section and put the goats in there until you have the area like you would like it to be.
I think some of the clean up could be done by the goats. They would be excited with the new greenery. Maybe temporary electric fence to keep them in a small area at a time.
I was going to suggest letting your goats back there to clean up. I have watched some other farm channels ( but yours is my favorite) put there goats in the areas they need cleaned up just like you moving your chicken around to clean up and 😅fertilize your garden plots. Love, love, love you all!
You probably wouldn't want to do alot but it would be great to make paths through to walk comfortably and put benchs along the way to sit and watch the wild life. Im a birder and would love having places to set up to just sit unoserved and get photos of the birds and other animals. Even set up bird houses and owl boxes out there. I would be in seventh heaven! Tucker goes everywhere and pops up on camera often.
❤So happy to hear this positive report on Mootilda. If there isn’t anything growing out on that ground that would be harmful to your goats, I’d let them go to town in there. The kitties sure enjoyed exploring with you.
I really love your charming southern accent and phrases. I'm from South Africa so your accent is so different from where I am from. I love all your video content as well
I have to say moo Tilda sure appreciate all the help you’ve given her and she greatly appreciate it. I can see it in how much she shows the love and appreciation to you. She just so thankful.
You can use the natural springs to have a beautiful flower garden. Bulb flowers grow beautifully and create a magical place. Probably use hand held tools to clear out the unwanted growth. It would be so amazing! Love from middle Tennessee, Fran
We didn't have nearly as much property, but i bought a sthil gas trimmer and the brush cutter blade, and it made clearing the think undergrowth easy. It was a lot of work but being able to cut it from a distance was nice.
Oh ho sweet. Cuddle time with sweet Matilda so precious, I would too. 🐄glad she’s healing better. Those sweet kids doing their own thing and so comfortable. The kitties sure know they’re safe with you but didn’t think they would go to the unknown ,but maybe they’ve seen it at a distance 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈🤭. You’ve got a lot of nice land.
We had a Forestry Plan with the state of VT for our land there. Once they completed their work/plan we were able to put a trail thru it. It’s a continuous process.
You already have the answer to your problem Brooke. Temporarily fence off areas and put your goats in there. After a few days, they’ll do the cleanup, then move that temporary fence beyond and you keep doing that for a while. Eventually, they will chew all the undergrowth up.
Unfortunately, they can’t do that because there is things that is poisonous to the goats in there also but that is a good idea otherwise❤❤❤
. Aaahh good call.. I do remember something about that. 🐐 🐐
Jason has said many times that goats know what to eat and what not to eat. They won’t eat the poisonous things.
@@BeckyColeman-jb2dc what about the donkeys and the cow?
I came to the comment section to say exactly this x
“He just about came out of his cat panties.” 🐈⬛ What a hoot. 😅

I laughed so hard at this!😂😂

Great information
I was thinking the same, invite Daniel Arms for a visit, he enjoys control burns, and thinning out the trees. He has the equipment for the job too.
Let the goats do their job and if that isn't enough then go further.

The kitties sure know they’re safe with you but didn’t think they would go to the unknown ,but maybe they’ve seen it at a distance 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈🤭. You’ve got a lot of nice land.
I’m guessing your normal secret service agents were busy so the kitties were called into duty!
We had a Forestry Plan with the state of VT for our land there. Once they completed their work/plan we were able to put a trail thru it. It’s a continuous process.
Good morning! Love watching you.
I love what you and Jason have done for Mootilda. Bless you both.
