    THIS is how you do a delay pedal (s) video! Amazing!!!

  • @JksGuitarCave

    Both are really great... I happen to own both, but the Flight Time is intuitive and easy to set straight away... the Future Factory require some time to get to know the layout. With two separate delays on series/parallel, mono or stereo, etc... it takes significantly more time to get to know the pedal... so considering putting the Flight Time back on the board...

  • @chipsnmydip
    @chipsnmydip Месяц назад +1

    I've been comparing the two myself back and forth in my own mono setup, and there are a couple things that don't come through in a video. The Flight Time being 12v has a more dynamic and higher headroom DRY sound, with a more clear and dynamic treble that also feeds into the delay giving it that treble sweetness and percussiveness that cut through more. And this is only at nominal gain (70), the Flight Time can boost the signal a lot beyond that. It's hard to give this up. The Future Factory dry sounds more compressed and missing top, though that can be calming in a way, probably better on a recording than playing in live situation.
    On the reverse, there is noticeably more noise with the FT-2Y and the repeats/modulation sound more natural and pleasant on the Future Factory. So the dilemma is better dry and dynamics, or better repeats with more features and lower noise...I'm struggling. I do wish the Future Factory had been 12v instead of 9v, and maybe the issue with dry headroom/output wouldn't exist.

    Incredible pedals, thank you very much for the comparison. I've been searching for an irreplacable delay for the Moog Grandmother, this just might be it. Just one thing - am I the only one who can hear the tempo diode on the Future Factory bleeding through a loud clicking noise every time you play? Or is it something else? Wondering if that's a specific unit fault or a general thing it does.

    • @SimonGotthelfMusic
      @SimonGotthelfMusic  5 лет назад +1

      Forest Child Thank you. Great pedals. But a loud clicking noise? From the diode? Yes I think you are the only one hearing that? Because it is not there, sorry 😀
      Are you sure you are not just hearing the second delay?
      The pedal has no noise or clicking sound at all.

      Around 9 minutes there’s a lot of those clipping noise when you hit hard....Too high input level cracking noise on first transients indeed, I can hear that too. All around alive and emotional but, please; how do you record these stereo delay signals out into a mono guitar amp? Best, Joe.

    • @SimonGotthelfMusic
      @SimonGotthelfMusic  2 года назад

      To be honest I don´t have a full pedalboard anymore. I only work in the studio, and if I need
      Multieffects for recording I use the AxeFx as insert. I still use a lot of pedals but only as stand alone units (including FTT). I still think FTT makes the best pedals and I recently did a demo of the New Delay that is awesome. I would highly recommend the Future Factory Delay - it sounds so good. Cheers Simon

  • @Iliaspap80

    Perfect Comparison! Cheers! So, in terms of simple mono repeats, which one sounds better in real life? If FF is same or better than the FT in that aspect, there is no reason for someone to buy the FT. With the term "better" I mean closer to TC2290 sound :)

    • @SimonGotthelfMusic
      @SimonGotthelfMusic  5 лет назад +5

      Good question. Closer to the "holy grail" the 2290 :) well to me the thing about the 2290 (that I still have) is that the sound is so thich and pleasant to the ears. It blends with the mix and works with guitar for some reason. I have actually not spend that much time comparing them side by side but I will if I can finde the time.
      But back to your question: FF and FT are very close when it comes to the basic sound of the delay however I think the new FF has a little more top end or it maybe clearer sounding. It could be just me but I hear something.
      I think the question is if you want all the control of the FF. I know I do and I use it both stereo and mono. But again if you want the looper or the BPM analyzer or maybe an easier layout it might be the FT.
      I would personally always go with the FF. It is just that good. Cheers Simon

      Thanks, that's very useful. In the video it does sound like the FF has a little more high end, in a good way. In Schnobel's comparison video between the FT and a rack unit TC2290, the latter had a crisper sound that I preferred, even though they were obviously close. I was looking more at the FT at first, but your video reassured me to jump on a local used deal for an FF.

    Looks like the Flight time has the delay phase on - not sure if that is on the Future Factory, which might be some of the difference in Dalys sound

    • @SimonGotthelfMusic
      @SimonGotthelfMusic  4 года назад

      Neil Wilson Hi Neil. In my opinion it´s not the difference. It has more to do with the high end in the pedals and the way the modulation works differently. I doubt that you would hear it in a mix though. You would notice the stereo effect of course but both delays can get very close in sound. Different features like the tremolo effect and the modulation might give it away. I love the wide stereo and two delay lines so I use the FF myself. Cheers Simon

    Amazing review Simon! Can I ask you something? I'm using FF-1Y and AS-1R, and wanna make it stereo. As I have Victory V4 Kraken Amp pedal, so I'm gonna place my delay/reverb after the amp pedal and go to mixer directly with Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo. In this Situation, should I adjust my Free the Tone pedal's input level switch to "line level"? By the way, I'm gonna connect this pedals with XLR-TS cable(Kraken Cab sim -> FF-1Y) and TS cables(FF-1Y -> AS-1R -> Canvas). I'm not sure this is a right way :( could you give me some advice for this?
