I think the biggest issue is big stars just not caring about the regular season or the fans. And another issue is how to watch the games, I don’t have cable and refuse to get it again just for NBCS Boston, so can’t watch any non nationally televised games and rely on RUclips highlights. On actual gameplay, maybe if players defended the 3 point line better, there would be less 3s taken.
To say the product hasn't changed is insane. The 17 Warriors lead the league in threes at like 31 a game, currently that would be last in the league. You have below average outside shooters that are still mathematically incentivized to shoot three's because even if you are a low 30s below average guy it still makes sense to just jack up three's over two's. The other major issue is the regular season has been massively, and I do mean massively devalued to the point of almost not mattering at all. You have only 10 of the 30 teams that don't make the postseason which is absolutely insane and this is the only sport with even close to that % of teams which further devalues the regular season. It says something when the 7 foot 4 hyped big man from San Antonio thinks its his best strategy to jack up 30 footers and when the leagues most explosive finisher Edwards is now taking half his shots from three. Many of the games now feel like scrimmages with all the deep three's and zero defense being played, or allowed due to officiating.
Certain teams havent been competitive in decades, working 3 nights a week and dedicating one to NFL already, on top of keeping up with NHL that draws some away and means im split between either watching parts of the Bruins or Celtics on any given night. Plus its not the most exciting game when i do watch either, tho the Celtics are usually up but that ties back into most games arent competitive enough for me to invest too much into them

Fans will always have a gripe about the NBA no matter the era.
need more info on rates to assess the situaion. is the decline across the board or specific to individual markets.
Make dunks worth 3 pts, it’ll force the game to come inside more and more posters baby!
