It feels good to constantly be in motion, and being pulled forward, into stressful situations, and having to constantly solve those problems. Its not for everyone, but know there is a great deal of joy that comes from these rushes.
It would still be an honor to ride with him. That guy single-handedly put America back on a bicycle. I remember when people laughed at me because I rode to school now everyone has one,
Fiancee broke up with me after 6 years and I have been thinking about a post break up purchase and move to Austin. I was born there and would love to go back. Is there a place where these rides are organized?
I was a skateboarder when this came out. I thought it was a sick video back then and always stuck with me. Now that I'm 34, and too old to skate, I got my first fixed gear lmao.
Same, I got lots of road bikes and MTB now, but i always grab my fixed when I head out for some casual fun. hope your still living life behingd bars lol
RUclips has been downsizing videos 10 years old or more left and right. I have a very old account and watched them butcher all my old videos of which I had no hard copy of. Basically like cutting my memories in half resolution. This video was probably 480 or 720p. Maybe even 1080. Making it 240p is fucked up RUclips
Vot63 Him being an overall douche bag. You would have to be pretty blind to not realise that he was a pretty shitty person. He has even said that people still don't know the extent of all he has done. Really don't understand why he still has fans.
Seeing the comments in 2012 back in the day (when I first saw this not when posted) vs. now makes me happy. The comments back then were “I wonder how juiced he was to do this” and stuff like that now it’s jut people either complaining about the video quality (and honestly this was before GoPro could just follow you) and people bringing attention to the fact that lance wasn’t the only one. Honestly RUclips is growing up when it comes to videos like these. Couple more years and the quality will make it vintage.
i fucking love austin! i wanna ride with the guy holding the heineken!! hipsters + roadies unite!! nothing beats going 30+ mph with no effort in a nice echelon!! congrats to lance!! nice return to cycling!!!! see you on the roads tomorrow - i will be the one passing you up
Mellow johnny's wanted to make a t-shirt with us. Lance has an art buyer, and he turned lance on to our project. We asked if he would be down to tape, and he agreed as long as he did not have to wheelie down stairs. We had 6 days to get organized, spend savings, and create cycling memories with this group of riders.
this is still bucket list shit. I remember being in 7th grade age 12 or 13 when I got my first fixed gear. watching this shit was like seeing nothing else around for my friends and I at the time.
I use to do crazy shit at night with running redlights , the idea is to get out during the late of night , it’s cooler and Your adrenaline gets pumping , the safest I found with the ability to have the room to roam wherever I wanted with no cars . I Never had a close call because I’m looking for sound before cars , makes 100percent sense to me
lance looked like he was having a blast, and riding around town with lance on fixies would be an awesome experience. F the haters with a big rubber dick. cool name bro :)
yeah.................so Lance blew them away OBVIOUSLY NO DRUGS that day Lance has been getting a bad wrap , He was written up as a champ in 92/93 and was always to the fore - so he did what he did to level the field against the German and the others- BIG DEAL................he looks like a guy who enjoys his riding.
Man, i lve these guys. i think they're so funny. my friend showed it to me and i couldn't help but laugh. i'd pick up cycling just to chill with these guys.
question(s)? so what made you guys just take a shot at riding with Lance? I mean what gave you the idea? Did you call him up or did ya just show up there?----that's just so cool. Anyway... I truly love this video, it's as if you've captured the sheer joy and essence which resides in every fiber of utter happiness and freedom that comes with riding a bicycle. LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY BICYCLE!!!---and may I say "the best way to travel." thanks for posting this video. : ) Peace.
COL S. Trautman any seasoned cyclist should be able to commute just fine on a single speed,i ride fixed and live in salt lake city, utah (a giant valley with very few flats but abundant in unreasonable grades very capable of burning out a clutch or snapping a skinny road bike chain)yet i have commuted, competed and leisurely rode here for years .if you care to refute that then you should try owning a singlespeed or fixed gear (they are fairly inexpensive next to your tour bike with integrated shifting and carbon frame and/or water bottle holder)or maybe reconsider your level of dedication and/or fitness when it comes to bikes,we all deal with hills gears or not and i personally find it hilarious seeing someone exert all they have on the wrong gears and are now unable to manage shifting higher than their 1/1 or 20t/34t gear and are barely moving
That was some sweet speed yall got. Man i wish my legs could pump the peddles that fast. It was also sweet seeing Lance doin a little fixie. I would love to see a video of Lance skiddding.
They are actually very efficient. You are forced to ride at a harder pace comapared to a geared bike, but the direct connection to the back cog and tension on the chain give you more downforce to your back tire. You can also pull up on your pedals to pull yourself up the hill instead of mashing down.
@Bayplaces i totally support you... most guys riding any kind of bicycle here in México don't use helmets, idk why, a helmet will keep you safe and they even look cool!
Sick. Perfect video, really. And I was reading a comment earlier, "skidding with a bag of chips in one hand..." --- no it's skidding with a mini-keg in one hand! What a savage.
this vid is sick and i ride fixed gears. there is nothin wrong with mashing side by side to cars but dont over do it. like dont zip into a busy intersection but i aint complaining these guys no what there doing but that doesnt mean one of the people in cars isnt paying attention and hits you. thumbs up if you think im right
Loved the vid. Some of the riding was a bit reckless, but you guys had a lot of fun and got to hang out with the man. So jelly. Where was this at? Looks like an awesome place to ride.
Loved the vid. Some of the riding was a bit reckless, but you guys had a lot of fun and got to hang out with the man. Where was this at? Looks like an awesome place to ride.
that's super tight. but i didn't realize that Lance was the guy in the white shirt until the middle of the video because the video quality isn't too great. but that's still ridiculously sick that sf mash rode with Lance! haha did Lance figure out how to skid stop?
I noticed too. I have been debating weather to retrofit my old motobecane with this type of bar because I can't find a regular drop bar with the old clamp diameter. Any advice or insight on the handling. The only thing that doesn't convince me yet about the mustache bar is the "weird" brake lever positioning.
@skibikerun21 this was part of the extra features on the "Mash SF" documentary dvd. i'm sure Mash has entered other videos to various bike film festivals
@KoenSmit91 depends how much you skid... if you skid a lot for fun it might take you about a month, but if you just commute, then you are mostly resist stopping (slowing down your pace, which slows you down) and they would of course last much longer... so probably an average if you commute of about 1 back tire per every 3-4 months, depending on if you bike everyday...
@mrpiehole A lot of these bikes are custom, but you can buy fixed gear/single speed bikes from most major bike manufacturers. Look up the Kona Paddy Wagon.
man thats so cool how would i be able to ride for chrome or get in the this sort of crowd of people ? i live in england but wanna move to Chicago or san Fran
@Bayplaces Agreed. I was in a bad accident with a drunk driver. My helmet LITERALLY saved my life. I don't remember the accident, I woke up in an ambulance, and I had to drop my entire semester. But, thanks to my helmet (in a perfectly safe riding scenario, by the way), I am breathing and still riding today.
@faisalfarissi That could happen, but always try to keep quality components when it comes to cranks, chain, cog and lockring. It normally avoids such problems!

Relevant even today
It would still be an honor to ride with him. That guy single-handedly put America back on a bicycle. I remember when people laughed at me because I rode to school now everyone has one,
jdoggybizzle yeah i started riding fixies in middle school then everyone started hoppin on the bandwagon in hs.
Still does group rides in Austin. You should visit.

@@lccs187 Texas has a pretty decent bike scene. People still ride fixed. Got the roadies, mtb, wheelies, all of that.
people laugh at me but when they get out of high school into college they will be commuting too haha

There is a rich history of bike + skate

@@charleslaitipaya7149 oh heck yeah. Fix is where I started. I've definitely moved on to road and big time into mtb but fix is always were its at.
How the hell did we watch videos of this resolution quality in 2008? I can't even read the credits.
vimeo.com/4503482 - this is what they meant it to look like. A bit better, less potato.

Every top rider in every tour that Lance won was juiced...Lance was just the the best, great to see him on a fixie.
+Vot63 But did they sue people for accusing them?
HS Moyle Did people accuse them?
Vot63 Of course.
HS Moyle So is Lance bad for being a drug cheat, like all of the other top riders, or for intimidating behavior? What's your beef with?

This is really interesting. It's pretty cool to see Lance riding with these guys. Thanks for the video!
Right now, 43 year old, post dope, out of shape Lance Armstrong could still crush 99.99% of everyone here talkin' shit.

exactly. a bunch of haters who never accomplished shit outside of turning on a television.

Still a good watch even now,Im sure if they did a modern take on it,many would still watch Lance

Wow, a reasoned and well-researched response on a RUclips comments page. Hats/helmets off to you good sir!
This video is on Vimeo in great quality.
Thanks for the tip! Love this video.
Merci man ✌️💯
Not true. gabe and I spent from our personal money to fly everyone out, rent a motorhome, and ride one weekend. We had no sponsors making this.
Glad I’m still watching this in 2020

I don't get how it's connected to Lance?
2:12 Lance is right here. And they go to his house at the very end.
Did not recognize him! So low quality of video. I Though he appears only in the end.
One man enjoying his bike . All so simple no money no sponsor no team no pressure . Remember when this was all there was .

You never see people go up hills in these fixie videos, that's right, you can't.
Its really not that hard
TuthHertzRadioOfficial 2 If you say you've seen it, I'll believe you but spinning is way more efficient so i'd rather condition myself on a road bike.

Most Track pursuit and older Time Trial frames had a 700c rear and a 650c or 24" front wheel
would be cool to find out their bike build ups.

great vid! was Lance riding FIXED or Singlespeed??
Just do it! The irony, the heroism, the Bay Area x Austin pride! Go with it! Thanks for sharing =)
Superb , I wish I was there with Lance and with them boyz .
he is, probably a 650cc up front and a 700cc in the rear. quite popular among trickers lately.
Which blob was lance? Great video btw!
handle bars may vary, but overall if the bike has drops and a good set of wheels it can be used as a track bike
