- Alessia Cara was the 2018 Grammy winner for Best New Artist but she’s been a big deal for many years. She has written, recorded and performed with some of the biggest and best in the music business which is what makes it even more incredible that with her brand new album, The Pains of Growing, she wrote everything by herself. That is a bold and inspiring thing for a young artist to do and I’ve got so much respect for all that she’s accomplished. I listened to the album as soon as it came out and, “Out of Love” gave me chills. I had finished my version of the song 2 days later.
I tried to play and sing the song in a way that captured how I felt when I heard Alessia’s melody and lyrics. My version has very different instrumentation and style but I think a great song can be played many different ways and still convey what is so powerful about great songwriting. I hope you agree and I hope if Alessia ever hears it, she does as well.
As always, I played everything on the recording and in the video. I tried to create a visual story line and tribute to Alessia in the background by taking a bunch of little pieces from her past videos. There are around 30 different clips that have been altered and pieced together to try to convey the feeling of her new song. If you are a fan of Alessia Cara, you will recognize many of the pieces but I hope you feel a new creation when you watch and listen.
I’m 14 years old and I want to be a musician when I grow up. I try to play many instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 4 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.

Merry Christmas to you :) The videos go back far enough now that I can actually appreciate them without being mortified about my goofiness. I can laugh instead. It's also wild to remember how many of these projects were absolutely right at the edge of what I could do at the time. I'm beginning to understand that music is much more layered and complex than just mastering a particular skill. I think maybe the magic has more to do with sincerity. It's tough to practice but I'm hoping it helps to begin to understand.
Truth! Plus the creativity and the imagination adds layers to the music. To practice the 14 instruments you seem to play with an attempt to master them would be hard, but you are doing so great at interpreting the music and placing your style into it. Can't wait to see what you do in 2019! Take care and keep sharing!

To be honest , I've never even heard of Alessia Cara , but this is a Beautiful song. This one touches Your Soul. So far I've played Your video 3 times because the lyrics keep bringing up memories and I keep drifting off while listening to You in the background.... so I have to play it over and try to concentrate better. You've almost got me lost for words Mia. This is just amazing and your talent is incredible! For starters I never heard the original version of the song so I checked it out. In all honesty your voice is better in my opinion. Couple that with your outstanding ability to play each instrument and I wonder what Mia Morris will do next! Merry Christmas to you as well :) I certainly don't have the voice that Alessia has and I didn't write this beautiful song but I thank you, and I will take some credit in putting all of the little things I can do, together into a project that I was really happy with and maybe like better as a whole too. I really had fun pretending that her version was a demo and I should do it however I saw fit. Thanks again for the very nice comment. Now I just need to learn how to write them this good! I really appreciate your confidence in what I might do and the encouragement.

Awesome! I love it when you sing songs with a lot of heart, like your original "Still Had Me". That's what you want to do, make your listeners "feel it". I'm still impressed with your versatility with all the instruments. I always wonder which one you start with first. That would be a good "behind the scenes" vlog. Keep pushing the envelope. I think it's really cool that you know about Still Had Me and I so agree. I can't put my writing in her category, yet, but finding a way to deliver music in a way that is genuine can do something pretty magic when a listener is in a certain place. I remember feeling so emotional writing still had me and I tried to keep that in the parts that went into the recording.
Mia, as always, your diversity rules the day. I am particularly amazed by you vocal execution on the song. It's no secret you are extraordinarily talented on many instruments, but to inflect the pain and anguish of a broken heart usually only comes with the very terrible experience of heartbreak. I am nothing but someone who enjoys and appreciates music and talent, and all I know is what I feel when I hear a song. You did make me feel as though you were singing from experience (I certainly hope not!), and I felt moved. Great job young lady!💔❤️

Mia Morris Mia, I think you may be as humble as you are talented, which is as awesome as it is rare. You have probably heard of this artist, but in case not, she is tremendous and actually sends chills with her lyrics and execution. Her name is Maja Shining, and she is the vocalist and lyricist for Forever Still. They are relatively new, releasing their first EP in 2015 and first album “Tied Down” in October 2016. If you only listen to and/or watch one song, “Save Me” would be a great choice. Keep up the spectacular work, all of us following you already consider you a Star! ⭐️
