  • Sulforaphane targets certain tissues, such as the prostate, breast, and bladder, where it exerts pharmacological effects that provide protection against cancer. In particular, sulforaphane promotes the activity of Nrf2, a transcription factor that regulates the expression of more than 200 cytoprotective enzymes. But the cytoprotective effects of sulforaphane may backfire in existing cancers, providing protection to mutant cells. In this clip, Dr. Jed Fahey describes sulforaphane's opposing effects on cancer.

I remember Linus Pauling saying one time that high doses of antioxidants when someone has cancer could make things much much worse. So, when you have cancer, don't overload on antioxidant foods. Even though he did use very high doses of Vitamin C for cancer, but he did notice that.

The Question I have is since I am not on anti cancer medications and I have been supplementing with sulforaphane do I still have to concern myself about mitochondrial support or not.

Rhonda Patrick talks about the only Sulforaphane supplement she recommends is Avmacol. (You can get this on Amazon). And also some sulforphane supplement either out of Italy or France. (I can’t remember the name because she said it was really expensive so I felt no need to remember). But from what I saw it had maybe 1/3 more sulforaphane than the Avmacol.

I still need to understand--If a person has an Advanced form of cancer-and is NOT under any treatments for it--could sulforaphane be safe to take? Or is Dr. Fahey here stating that he is concerned once cancer has metastized? And is he ONLY concerned IF a person is undergoing cancer treatment therapies...what about those treating their own cancer with diet and lifestyle? I still need more clarity.

@@robinkarlsson2671 While i do agree that there can be genetic motives or lack of carnitine that can prevent someone from reaching ketosis well, i think that's more the exception then the rule. Glynac supplementation showed that it can get the body in a much more fat burning mode then carb burning, so i'd venture it's just a problem of oxidative stress. I'd recommend you the kalish institute videos, they are complex bun extremely interesting.

what a pathetic, cowardly answer. He's trying to cover his butt. MANY studies show tumor regression in animals if taken at high doses. And 90mg sulforaphane per day even doubled survival rate at many points in HUMAN pancreatic cancer patients. Higher doses would likely be even more helpful, in my (non-physician) opinion, after reading the studies.

He’s not covering his ass. He is being scientific. Biochemistry is extremely complicated. Take soy. Is it good or bad? That depends on the state of the individual’s microbiome.
As a scientist, he cannot at this point say it’s good to take sulforaphane. As a scientist, you always embrace doubt. Certainty is the enemy of science.

He's right the cancer cells are growing more rapidly and the antioxidants, that sulforaphane have activated, upregulated, are then provided increased protection from apoptosis. B12 and folic acid has the same effect the cancer cells are feeding off it. I learnt that to my cost, or rather to Oscar's cost. It was inflammatory bowel disease or gi lymphoma, it started on a runaway course. B12 and folic acid are low in both conditions so started a course of injections, but instead we were feeding the cancer and using sulforaphane which effectively gave the cancer cover rather than allowing apoptosis.
