I was at U of Mass 1968. A friend of mine said he promised this girl we knew that he would take her to a concert but he didn't feel like going. I said sure I would take her he had paid for the tickets. He handed me the tickets and I said what are you out of your mind? I could not believe that he would pass up Simon and Garfunkel. We had a great time. Up until then, I had only been to one concert that wasn't classical music and that was Joan Baez in Frankfurt am Main.
I love Simon and Garfunkel. I have all of their albums, Wednesday Morning 3am, Sounds of Silence, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Plus the Paul Simon Songbook, which predates all of those albums but has quite a few classics on it that turned up on their following albums. What an amazing duo they were. With Paul Simon's songwriting and guitar playing, and the golden harmonies that Garfunkel brought, they made some 5 🌟 classic albums. Also, it was S&G who were responsible for making the Monterey Festival happen in 1967, which is where Jimi Hendrix really got noticed in America, having come to England to get a recording contract. Also on that bill was the likes of the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Mama's and Papas aswell as S&G themselves. Their music is really timeless and will be listened to 100 years from now. I also have some Paul Simon solo albums which are really great and which show, along with his songwriting in S&G that Paul Simon is 1 of the greatest songwriters of all time.

An interesting read into this song is Garfunkel, while a student at Columbia University assisted and mentored his roommate, Sanford Greenburg. Greenburg whose sight was diminishing eventually lost his sight. Garfunkel took on the role of "Darkness" during their lifelong friendship, which became part of the many interpretations of this beautiful song.

British Rock, American Rock, Folk, Country, POP, Soul, everyone was in their prime. Music was in the air, and all of it good. Now it's like maybe 70 percent of it is garbage and you have to really look for those who have true talent. Sorry, this time and place really sucks bad for music. It died a long time ago.

Hi, I really love this song. I am just starting with fingerpicking and I am having trouble finding the pattern. Is there a way you could write it down? It would be such a big help for people like me. I found one person who writes down, but she only picks new songs that I don't like very much. I hope you can help. I see a lot of great songs on your channel.
I would say start really simple and slow. Start by just trying to hit the bass note once every bar. Then just bass, string three with index, string two with middle and string one with index. One on each beat. Once you have that down then start with more complex picking patterns.

There is no way could a kid write a song like this nowadays, no way. These young men started out in high school and The Beatles were mere babies. Know how and talent ran amok in that era. With the dumbing down in Public Education, we shall see these talents less. There is no way can a kid write anything comparable. Sadly, we are devolving as a human race. I stopped looking at the mainstream and began looking at the side streams and tributaries in local music. And once I did, my eyes and ears have been opened to the wealth of musical talent which exists in our world. Music and musicians that stand little chance of becoming popular. Paul Simon is an extraordinary talent, yes. "No way..."? There are in fact other talents out in our world if we look around. And as a reminder, SoS was written after the JFK assassination so there was that inspiration and compelling emotion present.

I really sigh that things are still being subverted until now, how can we stop these ?

Hi, I really love this song. I am just starting with fingerpicking and I am having trouble finding the pattern. Is there a way you could write it down? It would be such a big help for people like me. I found one person who writes down, but she only picks new songs that I don't like very much.
I hope you can help. I see a lot of great songs on your channel.
I would say start really simple and slow. Start by just trying to hit the bass note once every bar. Then just bass, string three with index, string two with middle and string one with index. One on each beat. Once you have that down then start with more complex picking patterns.

There is no way could a kid write a song like this nowadays, no way. These young men started out in high school and The Beatles were mere babies. Know how and talent ran amok in that era. With the dumbing down in Public Education, we shall see these talents less. There is no way can a kid write anything comparable. Sadly, we are devolving as a human race. I stopped looking at the mainstream and began looking at the side streams and tributaries in local music. And once I did, my eyes and ears have been opened to the wealth of musical talent which exists in our world. Music and musicians that stand little chance of becoming popular. Paul Simon is an extraordinary talent, yes.

And as a reminder, SoS was written after the JFK assassination so there was that inspiration and compelling emotion present.

I almost forget the title of this songs.
1966 'Garfunkel once summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other.Mutual discrimination, hate each other, Fighting for power and gains? This song also represents an anti-war notice. Ironically, it reflects the fact that the US sent 2.7million troops to fight 8 thousands miles away to Invasion VN ? What does this indicate? Multiplicationism? Capitalism? Spiritual sovereignty? Cultural sovereignty? Or show off as superpower of military ? I really sigh that things are still being subverted until now, how can we stop these ?
By not buying into the messaging of fear and negativity; which is meant to control - and has worked in the past. Truly look at each other’s hearts and acknowledge the power of love. God is Love. We are on the cusp and transitioning to some exciting and changing times..... it may be a rocky ride for awhile, but hang in there and Trust.❤️
