I have to say that you are an amazing human being just for the fact you're tacking your time to record, edit and draw to show us. I get tons of motivation after watching your videos and idk how to thank you deeply T-T thank u so so much for this
ive been drawing for ages now, but since i started my animation degree, i noticed a *massive* improvement suddenly in my art. It was a bit strange, because i really didn't purposefully change anything about my process that i knew off since starting school, until i just watched your video!! what i was lacking before was draftsmanship, and at school i've been focusing on quickly getting assignments done instead of fussing over every detail, which inherently made me improve my draftsmanship a lot!! i never knew what this was called before!! the rest of this video is extremely helpful aswell, thank you!!!
@@adecorner4511 hi!! first i want to say goodluck!! animation is so rewarding and ive loved it so far! i'm currently attending gobelins for my masters atm but i originally did my undergrad at lisaa. in my experience, i loved lisaa because the staff and course felt very supportive. When i was worrying about where to do my masters, i was recommended to apply for gobelins even tho i was very nervous haha most of my basic improvement came from lisaa as for gobelins, i cant speak on their undergrad course since i didnt attend, but i know recently they created a new course for english speakers if you dont speak french! :) gobelins is definitely intense and they like you to learn animation in a very specific way, but youre surrounded by such motivated, kind people that it gets easier to manage! ive noticed students share and bounce off ideas alot, and that is so refreshing when youre stuck or overwhelmed!! oops sorry this is long...but i wish you the best of luck!!
SO MUCH GOOD INFO packed into just 47 minutes. Wow. Thank you SO much for sharing you expertise in such an accesible way. I've never been more excited to take a photo, break down the shapes, then trying to draw those shapes in different ways.
Disclaimer ! Draftmanship comes in many forms/ stages of the art process. Also don't get discouraged if you arent able to draw clean lines all the time !! As our mood changes, so does our drawing process. Also when we are learning we often draw more sketchy until we are confident. Regradless keep going, and your own process / style will speak to you.
Thanks for saying this, trying to draw a dancer (I chose ballet cause I like my art to have flow which is not conductive to straight lines) was absolutely maddening. There’s no place to fit a line of action/anatomy supports
I don't usually comment on art tutorial videos, or any videos. i just wanted to say that have been drawing for a long time and there was always something i was missing. i never even thought of draftsmanship at all. it was exactly what i needed. Thank you!
Oh god. Thanks for explaining that differently angled objects have different, but similar vanishing points. This is the thing that always gave me trouble. I used to try to make cubes in perspective and then try and fit say another cube in there. It is a way, I suppose? But it's so unnecessary and it only killed my motivation. So yeah, huge thank you for this video, and specifically thank you for not trying to edit out every mistake and using them to show how to fix common mistakes, like in the perspective rotation example. It can get really discouraging when an artist draws everything on their first attempt and you have no clue how to fix the mess you've made while being a beginner and trying to follow the tutorial!
Aw heck yeah!! I had this class but then it expired on class101 which was the wORST! I hate their business model so much. Man I didnt even realize it was you!!! Thanks for posting them! ❤
I am studying this fervently, thank you very much for the incredibly valuable information. you are helping me think more clearly and draw what feels to be more authentically, something I feel I haven't been able to do for months. I am excited to learn from you and study more of your videos, I have been skimming through them daily and have chosen today to really sit down and focus on what you're saying take care and I hope to see whatever more you have in store for the community, you're great!! 🍉♥♥
artists in order of mentioned: loish, arucelli/knight zhang, nikola_cizmesija, qmeng, epsee, brittany myers, xi yun, spiderverse concept art, yoneyama mai
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos! I bought the full course and I've been watching lessons while I cook dinner. Something about this is just clicking where other instruction hasn't.
I have been drawing for a long time and struggled with it for a long time. The whole thing about being a good draftsman really changed my thinking that already I'm seeing a difference in my drawing. Thank you!
hi! so i discovered you with the avatar portfolio video and was super impressed by your thought process and technical skill. this video popped up in my feed so i watched and wow, it’s late now (so i won’t draw rn) but i know next time i pick up my pen i’ll do your assignments! the way you explained things and put theory to practice… the sole fact you explain everything in comprehensible bits is amazing. thank you for making this available for free! i do not plan to make a career out of art, i do it for fun only, but for years i’ve thought that bc i wasn’t born with natural skill, that i would never be able to make good art. your tutorials might make me change my mind, and i thank you for that! keep making such helpful, useful content. take care 🫶
if you ever wonder had anyone gone thru all of this vid, then there is at least one ( me :>>). I got a jump scare in the form session ( last session) I really weak and wish to improve on that subject, the first step (imaging it) already difficult for me, so glad you include it in your lesson. Thank you sensei
I was having a really hard time drawing anatomy in perspective and this video made me realize all the parts that I've been skipping. When you went to the form part of the video and you told us to imagine what the object would look like in a different perspective. I was really having a hard time imagining it. Thank you so much for all the info and recommendations you told us to do. Will definitely recommend this video to others. New sub here! ♥️♥️
the section about draftsmanship was super inspiring and just amazing info i never thought about, its extremely insightful and really explained to me how to properly conduct my studies!! i appreciate your vids sm
This is wonderful, thank you so much for sharing with us these tips and suggestions. Every time I see one I get the urge to pick up my pen and start drawing again
I was many times sooo close to buying your course on class101, but I was a financially struggling student then.. but now! this just made my day, thank youuu!
Wow, I am new to drawing and this opened my eyes to a few things, especially the form section! I understand why many of my shapes look flat now.. thank you! Great video!
Yo - I've been struggling with form forever. I love how you explain it and give solid examples of how to practice and get your brain to actually think in forms. Thank you for that! I think most folks talk about form in terms of shading, or how important it is, but don't really go into the detail that I need for my own brain to understand the steps I need to take in order to get from where I am today to the artist I know I can be. Def love this video for that.
Ahhh- my draftsmanship… is really bad because my rough sketches look ALOT better than my clean looking final illustrations… like I draw in reverse lol but I also don’t wanna be like every other artist with really nice lines because I’m also tryna battle ai art with not making my art so even and clean or if it gets copied :( But I’m grateful to learn anew 🙃🙃🙃🙃👉👈
I have aphantasia so something I really struggle with is being able to rotate forms in my head. I literally can’t see it lol. Any tips on how to help with that?
thank you for the thress lesson. although i can never do clean lines due to shakiness, I'll try to lessen the amount of unnsessary linmes. keayboard, please work! edit: i might not work well with forms either. ;-; i can't see 3D (another pummel from my disability). i can guess things (then run into the next street pole), but it's not the truth.
Who is the artist at 14:16? I can hear what you say, but I can't understand, really. Arooz? Ahruz? Aruz? Arus? lol I can't find an artist by any of these names.

I'm trying to be a self-taught artist, and your video and structure helped me organize an ACTIONABLE plan for myself to proceed with learning.
The form part of this video is the only one that has actually told me how to practice, this is so helpful!!

I like how you explain things and then give exercises.
This was so so helpful!! Haven’t followed an art tutorial in a long time but this pushed me to start focusing on the fundamentals again. thank you!!
This video is a treasure! I learned a lot, especially about lines! Can't wait for part 2!
Just motivates me to draw more. Thank you for this
What great timing :o I'm hyped to take notes on these videos and then entire course itself. Thank you! 😆
The way I studied digital draftsmenship was studying my bestfriends art speedpaint, now my digital and traditional art is on par.
I started drawing today. This will help me a lot thank you. God bless you Ms.Bits
This is a pretty good/no brainer idea. Will see over time if it’s worth buying the full stuff
