This is the first time I've seen this receiver in action. Super cool!

Never saw a receiver with guitar and mic inputs... let alone a reverb! Amazing!

Crazy, right? Another favorite component of mine.

Hubby just cheaply bought large, old (probably from early '70s) Pioneer receiver with reverb! Unfortunately, reverb not working, hopefully we can fix. Yeah, when we saw it on auction, we we both were very happily curious about the reverb function.

I enjoyed watching this series. Found it by accident somehow. I bought one of these back in the early 70's probably around 73. Dad was stationed in Japan and I dreamed about this unit for about a year. Saved up lawn mowing money to get it. I can't remember how much it was at the time. It seems like it was less than $200 though. It cost slightly less than the more powerful KR-6160, which was Kenwood's flagship at the time. I used it for a whole lot of years. I still have it in the closet and this makes me want to get it out. But, it hasn't been powered on in over 25 years. I think it had developed some slight problem, but don't clearly remember. A fuzzy channel or something. I see that non-working 6170s are on eBay for around $400. And, someone is selling a refurb kit that I think is a full cap replacement, for about $185.

Thanks for sharing, Michael. Would be interested to see how yours would power up after all these years. Probably best to do so slowly with a Variac.

@@FluxCondenser yeah I thought about that. I would have to buy one. Also would probably need at least the in circuit cap tester. But, they don't look expensive.

An in-circuit cap tester will help with the smaller electrolytics, but the one’s that are mostly likely to have failed over the years will be the large filter and output caps, you’ll need a parallel leakage tester for that or to just skip the testing process and replace them with new ones.

Gawd, doesn't *anyone* play House of the Rising Sun anymore? But seriously, your nephew was impressive for someone who picked up the guitar only seven months ago. I hope he follows the other fellow's example of diligence in honing one's craft so that he plays effortlessly.

Back in 71', that would have been one rockin' bit of gear to have. Hi-Fi come Karaoke/P.A system.
I would have had a ball with that as an amateur musician back in the day. :)

This would of been a lot better had you incorporated the drums on the receiver in this video. If you do make another video it would be nice to show much more versitility of the receiver.
