- Hey everyone, welcome back to The Road to Superman. This is the web series where we follow all the latest updates and rumours regarding the Superman reboot. This is episode 21 and today we are once again talking about the Superman suit. This is the 3rd episode in a row talking about the suit and hopefully the last for a while but whilst people are still in heavy discussion about this topic, I thought it was important to still bring up some important details.
So you can tell by the title and thumbnail that I actually think the suit should have looked far different to how it actually does. Which may confuse some of you as in the past 2 videos I have mentioned how the suit is growing on me. However that was until I saw multiple edits of what this image could have looked like. And at the end of the video I have created the exact suit I think David Corenswet should have worn as the first look at Superman. I think it would have really removed a lot of the negativity that the official image has created.

People said the same when they saw BTS of The Batman and Shazam.. and this picture just overall sucked.. so I’d say wait for a trailer.
I guarantee that this suit costs more than what's in your closet.

Corenswet just might very well be a decent Superman but that suit isn't doing him any favors. Especially after witnessing Cavill's suit. To me the SuperMEH suit is a downgrade if you ask me.
I definitely have conflicting feelings regarding the reveal! Great video as always! A few thoughts, 1)The Suit won't make or break the movie. We all know as great a Cavil looked in Man of Steel, his suit didn't save Batman V Superman or Justice League. The quality of the writing will make or break the film. Gunn made me care about a talking tree with a limited vocabulary and an angry racoon...so I'm giving him so leeway. 2) This suit may have worked better if we didn't have some many recent interpretations to compare it with. Not only Cavil but the CW has pumped out a few high quality suits recently. If you're looking for the best update on the classic look, just check out Brandon Routh in the Crisis crossover. He looked flat out AMAZING!! The again if you want a more modern look, Tyler Hoechlin has worn a variety of high quality suits, the best being the most recent which reduced the padding and looks like a more complimentary fit to his body. All that said, there really was no reason to "reinvent the wheel" as the saying goes. We've had so many good suits recently, and I think classic always works better. I don't think anyone was clamoring for the New 52 suit to make its live action deput. I hope that's the only thing he pulls from that storyline because honestly it was one of the weakest reboots of the character. The Grant Morison stuff was great and if the first image was that suit design I would've been excited...but this...I'm still hopefully but the reveal didn't add to the excitement.

I’m rooting for David Corenswet to do a good job for the DCU’s Superman if, of course, the new Superman movie will deliver. And that we can also see the suit look better at some point, if any time at all.

I kind of expected James Gunn to drop an unexpected adaptation of the classic suit. But I was still hoping to get the classic suit because of his instagram posts about the inspirations (that he drawn out of the books) and excitements for the movie.
But who knows? It doesn't automatically worsen the excitement for the movie for me. Just a bunch of unexpected marketing choices.

I'm not a huge fan of the new suit, but I still prefer it over the second edit you showed. The first edit was awesome, and it made sense. So, since I disliked the second edit (I just feel it's too much like the classic version with a cheap fabric), I didn't particularly like the third edit you did either. But if the cloth had some texture and looked modern, I might have liked the third edit too.
I do wish James Gunn's suit didn't look so much like a Marvel suit, but I'm not super upset about it. It makes sense if it's a homemade suit. And even if it's the final one, I just hope that the Batman suit looks more like armor since he isn't an invincible alien.
Honestly, it might be cool to see each of their suit have a different texture/style. Superman doesn't really require armor, whereas Batman does. And as we saw in ZSJL, the Flash requires specific material to keep up with his extreme speed.
And I don't get what you mean at 4:40. If the new suit looked anything like Cavill's, I'd be super happy, lol. Cavill's looked like the suit was a sort of thin alien armor thanks to the tough-looking texture and material. It looked very well-thought-out in terms of the material requirement for a superhero, who might take extreme beatings and harsh environments like outer space.
On the other hand, the new suit looks very much Earth-manufactured, using similar concepts as military clothing. Even the dirt on the suit screams Earth. So, I find the contrast quite stark. The colors are fairly similar, but everything else is different.
James Gunn knows what he is doing. He got everyone talking, didn't he? whether it is good or bad.

I have to push back a little on what you said about Cavill not being superman again. I understand from a corporate point of view that WB wants Corenswet to be the only Superman audiences acknowledge it from a story stand point Cavill's superman could exist in a self contained universe.

Most of the problems I have with the suit come from the way the image is presented.
5:02 - 5:21...The film has not been released. Huh??? If the photo displayed Superman standing up with his fists on his hips and chest puffed out, the photo would have conveyed a similar tone to Richard Donner's Superman. What does that have to do with generating buzz?
The edit suit version is Way more awesome that's the classic superman costume I love and however the suit we got is ok we'll get plenty of David's supes costume in motion soon it's too early to tell.
🚨 Fellow Fans, the background is a plot hint for the movie (Read my comment below.) - Also the picture is (in camera no post done) I think he released this photo with a plot hint because paparazzi may had a chance to take unofficial picture.
🚨 Let us break this photo down. (Gunn confirmed the picture is in camera and has not gone through any post):
I believe the pink sphere in the picture is Solaris. Gunn is inspired by All Star Superman: I believe Solaris was one of the villains in All Star Superman. Solaris has injured Superman and have blocked the yellow sun while fighting Superman; this is wear the damage on suit came from. I see a green light striking Solaris in the picture as well. Superman may be injured and weaken from the first fight. Green Lantern and others are distracting Solaris while Superman recovers. Solaris is overcoming the other heroes and weakened, Clark Kent witnesses they need his help. They need Superman.
⭐️ In this picture, a weakened Superman is putting on his boots for round 2, he beaten and injured but he is preparing suit back up to fight Solaris, who is blocking the sun, all odds are against Clark but he is the beacon of hope; he is Superman. Now in this photo Superman is preparing to give his all to save the other heroes and the world.
⭐️ I recently rewatched All Star Superman. Solaris and Lex plays a big part; and, I believe the other in heroes are replacing the fortress of solitude robots to fight Solaris.
♦️Solaris is a Superman Character.

I want to add, in the comic or animated movie of “All Star Superman,”Superman needs help from his robots to combat Solaris; Lex get power and is working with Solaris:
1. Well in the image James release you see a green light beam striking top of Solaris.
2. Instead of the robot, this is why you need all the other heroes; they replace his robots and are an integral part of the overall story. (Gunn said this)
3. Lex will probably trick the Engineer in finding the fortress. (Remember, there we report during the time of the Crest reveal, the Engineer was in the snow with Superman. She probably found the fortress of solitude and something to give Lex powers; and Lex some way made a deal with Solaris.
4. Gunn is taking inspiration from the New 52, All Star Superman and Superman All Seasons.
5. 🚨 Gunn should had waited and run the photo through post production before releasing to the public. (I think he released the photo without post because the media may get a bad picture.
I’m just glad to see Superman looks determined in the image instead of smiling unnecessarily. People are over correcting for Cavill’s Superman by wanting the character to constantly be smiling now. Most interpretations of Superman are usually serious with stoic poses. If Gunn’s Superman had a goofy smile, that would really scare me about the tone of the movie.
I mean he's supposed to he a nice guy who you could sit down and have a beer with and will do anything for those in his personal life and humanity, but that shouldn't mean that he's goofy or silly or overly light hearted so I agree with you there.
@@ahopefor yeah he’s a nice guy. But most images of the character have him posing as a strong force for good determined to enforce justice. Smiling Superman was popularized by Reeve and now some think the character should always pose with a smile. That’s just not true to the character though

There are some good theories out there as to why the suit is ill-fitted and I hope these theories hold true. James Gunn is often methodical about what pictures he posts. The suit is lighter than what is portrayed in the picture, as the sun is likely being consumed or absorbed by Solaris and therefore Superman is losing both his powers and muscle mass because of it.
I will be curious to see what the upcoming meme designs look like at least. Now that there's an official image, the internet will do what it does best: be creative.
Thumb nail suit is awesome, but in reality, not so much. And compared to snyder suit no contest, snyder suit wins hands down.

The new Superman suit looks fantastic. People complain and whine as usual. They say the suit looks cheap but what they recommend instead is a cheap ass pyjama like Christopher Reeves wore back in the days 😂
I’ve heard some say it shows Superman slowly his power or mass by showing the wrinkly suit when the sun is blocked by an entity.
I just think Gunn approach is unnecessary difficult.
He has to walk a fine line of making all fans happy by making granny panties or banana hammock look modern.
He should have gone for the easy layup.
I'm honestly curious to see what the rest of the suits in the film will look like considering the backlash with the Superman suit. Mr. Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl coming to mind.
What I hate about the new Superman suit is that I'm almost 100% sure it is gonna be Nanotechnology...when he does the shirt rip the suit is gonna grow around him from the shield...
The collar also takes away aaall the soul of the cape , and its just to rubbery thick, baggy and dark you cant see no muscle details, it annoys me that so many yes man are saying this new suit is good when it is not

I still think everyone is being too quick to judge the image on face value alone. If we're assuming the orb in the background is the true main threat, possibly Solaris, then a previous theory of how this is a scene of Superman being somewhat weakened by him works. He's slower to put his suit on, possibly having already been in a battle by the state of his shirt, and the other heroes are holding Solaris at bay. I'm with you in saying a better background would have helped. Along with a better pose and more lighting. Maybe him reclining back on a cloud, giving a full view of the suit and capturing the tone of the All Star Superman cover. But I'm also thinking Gunn released it as is because he's perhaps a little frustrated with all the scoopers and leaks that are bothering him and the cast. Like he'd rather just release an image he had ready of a scene already taken and post it to try and get the people trying to take photos on set to stop and deny them the cash they seek to make. I don't know but I'm not a guy who says 'they should have done this or that'. At least not until I've seen a movie in whole.

The real photo also gives a lot of theories and interpretations while the others are just Superman which is cool but wouldn’t have done numbers while no matter how it looks people will always hate.. call it cope whatever even tho I think it’s mid at best but it’s not as bad as what people making out and there’s gotta be reason for Gunn to post this come on he’s head honcho now

Excuse me That Star Wars Girl 2, the less annoying version, just kidding! The trunks, or underwear on the outside are classic and were meant to reflect the circus strongmen era of Superman creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Seigel the 1930s. I liked Cavil's suit with all those annoying seams, actually thought it was very scifi snd contemporarily made sense. But if asked personally Ill always go with the trunks! Because in the press release when they revealed the S crest on Superman day when they where filming in Norway it was confirmed they where filming a scene in witch Superman retreats to the fortress after a battle. My theory is Superman is going to the fortress to craft a new suit made from materials from Krypton one that can’t get damaged or burnt unless it’s an EXTREME heavy hitter. Also the symbol James Gunn revealed looks a little different then the symbol that’s on the suit cause the symbols reveal shows the crest being raised off of the blue sections while on the suit reveal it feels like it’s actually on there and woven into it. That’s why I think the suit reveal we got is Superman’s homemade that Ma Kent made taking inspiration from things like first responders.

The movie will be well written that’s a given.. the amount of talent involved and love for the script is telling.. so even if I hate the suit - I know the movie’s gonna be something special and at least I can hope they’ll change it in the future.
Just a thought…what if this image isn’t the real Superman? Perhaps what we’re seeing here is the rumored Superman clone? The battle damaged suit could be it’s visual identifier from the real Superman? Just a thought. Probably a “Gotcha guys!” post from James Gunn.

Original basically tells us what the story will be about, it's a marketing decision to get people talking the latter probably won't but you can tell it'll be a funny movie sadly (probably marvel-esque).

Henry Cavill is difficult to work with. MoS2 wasn't even talked about and Cavill announced it to the world. THAT is why he can't be Superman.
Wow. I've been defending the image as an OK choice, until these images. They really strike up the tone I want.
We (the fans) have NO business judging or second guessing James Gunn's designs or aesthetics when it comes to his films. No one does comic-book based movies better than him. People had a similar reaction to his first announcement when he chose to make Guardians of the Galaxy, rather than a more popular Marvel property. He has proven his acumen time and again. I have nothing but faith in him and that this will, in all likelihood, be the greatest Superman film ever made by the time he is done.
If you want superman like that go watch superman animated TV show, your suit looks boring, we trust james Gunn vision and we like David's suit

imo Snyder had the best concept for his suit being it was formed on krypton making it alien material I mean we really don't know what Gunns Superman will be like only by what he says the film will be about "For all seasons" and "All star Superman" the posters tone is saying to me...he looks tired or mad or maybe concerned
I remember seeing the first image of Henry's Superman suit and it was a very impressive look. This, on the other hand, just looks so underwhelming. It is like they tried really hard to get a unique suit design. Something no one has asked for.
