I like Josh's line: "...unless we get into 4-channel planes in the future -- we don't know if that will happen". I can't believe this vid is only 4 years old. All the developments and refinements to get Flite Test builds to where they are now must have been a blinding explosion of awesomeness.
I built my delta wing last night and took it out this moring and wow this thing cooks it goes stright up wow so fast and very quick roll rate as well I love these guys plz keep up the great work !!!!!!!!
This may be the reason I will finally build a nutball! The nutball is just too simple for me to be worth using a motor and foam on but if it is swapable its perfect! 3(+) planes in one!!
Josh! that was an incredible amount of work! and even do I acknowledge that your entire team do lots of work! I have to say! great Job man! I still insist you are an auto body repair specialist!
"Elevons" are a programming hassle that I never overcame. I have a fancy, modern radio but cannot negotiate this feature. Oh well, I'll keep checking your great channel for a slope soarer. Thanks dude.
Love your videos guys but the plans linked to on this video are not the same as what you are doing in the video. The plans do not use the one piece technique on the main part of the plane and it is very confusing to a new builder to try and figure out the differences. O.K., I think I figured this out now. The plans referenced are apparently for your kit, not this scratch build. I couldn't figure out why the lines said to cut the plane in half only to attach the two sides back together. I suppose you shipped it cut to reduce size / shipping cost. I will just use those plans and not cut the middle line. However, that being said, there is still no plan available for the same build technique used here.
From what I understand, the paper on the foam board adds strength. You can probably use Depron, but you might need to reenforce the wings with a small fiberglass rod.
It would take a lot more planning but I think it would be a great challenge to have the servos in the fuselage as well. Just need different servo arms. Would make it harder but would make it more of a challenge to build for experience people
search the flitetest channel for mixing, they have a video showing you how to do it on a couple different radio systems. (in case you havent found out by now, im a little late on this sorry)
Josh, you said 0.7mm wire for the landing gear, but that just seems too small and flexible. Is that really what you are using or did you accidentally mis-speak? Also, what gauge music wire did you use for the pushrods?
I have almost finished my flyer and am thinking ahead to doing a delta wing build, but I don't have a transmitter with mixing etc...what are your thoughs about the flyer with a more delta type wing and regular airlerons in the wing and and elevator in the tail with a fixed rudder ? can I still use a flat(one thickness) wing or do I need some type of built-up airfoil ? I also picture putting the elevator tail section on top so it will be on the same level with the wing. Thanks, joep
Does it have a wing profile or is it flat profile?I flied some foam planes 20 years ago but motor was powerful and there was cable behind the plane and it could fly without wing profile:)
you guys are at good standing with hobbyking, any chance that you could pass this whole control+motor+batt+all guts in swapable body off to them so they could make it more pro, and consciese? so you basically buy only cheap 4ch sender + cheap mass produced 4ch body filled with electronics ready to fly, all configured so you only attach your airframe with servos and go have fun without messing about too much?
15 for the motor, 10 for ESC, 6 for (2 x) 9 grm servos, 7 for the battery, 6 for 4ch Rx, 2 for foam board, But assumption is you have Tx and charger and some small stuff in your kit.
no need for that, very very very strong by it self (depron) although, the dollar tree foamboard is 4mm thick, and the most common depron thickness is 6mm, so you will need to make some adjustments to the plans :) but a CF or FG rod will only make it much stronger for very little weight :)
Hey there... is there a reason you chose the bottom of the plane for the battery vs. the top - or even within the fuse (assuming one did some sort of 'hatch' for it)? Thanks.
Hello, I am currently in the planning phase for a delta wing, I have some idea about RC as I have a Drift Car, but this is my first plane, and I've been told that before you go out and buy planes, you should try and make one so you understand the parts of the plane. For my delta. What type of ESC, battery, motors and servos would you recommend. Both in price and reliability. Thankyou
I noticed that you used balsa wood for some of the parts like the control horns and the front of the power pod, can anyone give some advice on where to get those.
hi, i come from Bali, after viewing your videos, I was keen to make this aircraft, but could you explain what components that I need and how to put them together ??, please help me, sorry for my bad english

Foam board. It has paper on each side and is 5mm thick. Flite test sells the water resistant version of this and hobbyking sells 5mm thick foam sheets, but you will need to cover this in tape because it doesn't have paper pre applied.
Hi Josh, could you please tell me how yaw control is made using only ailvones ? I maybe have to put some trim config cause I crash it whenever I try to make a normal turn !
would this airframe still work well if the motor was on the back as a pusher? I have electronics from a dynam I Can Fly, which has a motor with a odd mount. it would be easier to use a 1/4x1/4 stick on the back as the motor mount due to the type of motor. I realize that the CG would change and id have to remove some of the control surface to allow for the prop, but would that shape still fly well as a pusher?
Hi, does anyone know what thickness the foam board is? I cannot buy from dollar tree as I am not in the USA, but I can buy an equivalent here in the UK. Thanks
I have found that planes with the prop in the front do not make very good beginner planes. You usually end up breaking props bending motor shafts. Sorry to say and I'm sure people love the front prop for scale look but that's just the facts. I would recommend planes with rearward pointing props like the bixler or axn foam planes for beginners. IMHO of course.
Like this channel, like the fact that you like to do things as economically as possible but I`m unsure if I can "go ahead" or not ? LOL, just playin guys...keep up the good work !
Hi Guys Great videos. I want to build some of these models, but I am in the UK, and I can't find this foam board anywhere. Has anyone any idea where to buy this stuff here ?
remember to add a bit of hot glue to where the wires on the motor leave the insulation and go into the inner bell bit (no idea of the name :P ) ive used these motors before and they break, yeah its annying
Any Model Hobby shop. A proper rc hobby shop though, not one that sells those plastic planes. But, I think its thin Plywood that they used for the fire wall and control horns... which again can be gotten from a good model shop.
funny how nice and neat everything comes together on tube.. and how it all mashes in a big skewed burrito on my table.. ash! better buy one of those rtf`s...
Hola, saludos desde Paraguay, excelente trabajo el que hacen... Busque el PDF de ese diseño para bajar y el link ya no esta. Podrian por favor volver a subirlo o arreglar...? Gracias, sigan asi :)
I wonder why they don't bundle together the motor, esc, battery, charger pushrods, and wheels needed. Most local hobby shops today only sell ARF kits, no separate parts. So people try using the electronics they have and the plane won't fly.
I want to thank everyone at Flight Test for taking the time to make such great content for the hobby.

I have been building balsa RC planes for 30 years and knocking a plane together this fast AND this cheap is simply amazing to see! Very impressive!
I built my delta wing last night and took it out this moring and wow this thing cooks it goes stright up wow so fast and very quick roll rate as well I love these guys plz keep up the great work !!!!!!!!

Tento model jsem si postavil a zatím se učím ovládat. Je to moje první delta. Modely postavené touto technologií se mi líbí a budu pokračovat.
Good job getting back to Flite Test. Miss Josh Scott. hope you get some more sponsors real soon. the show must go on!!!
Josh! that was an incredible amount of work! and even do I acknowledge that your entire team do lots of work! I have to say! great Job man! I still insist you are an auto body repair specialist!
Josh, you are a master craftsman, you skill with the knife, glue and tape is ... well, just awesome!
"Elevons" are a programming hassle that I never overcame. I have a fancy, modern radio but cannot negotiate this feature. Oh well, I'll keep checking your great channel for a slope soarer. Thanks dude.
They make things that you can plug directly onto your servos that do the same thing😋👍
The angle of attack is going to create the lift. The particular shape of an airfoil is not always necessary to achieve lift.
this taught me so much about building any planes in general
okay i have 2 questions, 1. what is a KF step, and 2. would this plane fly with a cox 049 type motor?
Excellent presentation, clear and easy to follow... will be trying this sometime soon. Liked and Subscribed.

Go ahead and make more like this please, this is the material that makes me love FT :)
Enjoying old videos
Thanks, what a clear and direct presentation. I've seen a lot "of 'em", and this is really good. :)
It would take a lot more planning but I think it would be a great challenge to have the servos in the fuselage as well.

Any one know what sort of angle to tilt the motor to stop torque roll and power pitching?
what speed controll is best or what did you use?? please reply! useing 1300 kv 24g motor...
Download the plan for the FT Flyer, the fuselage plan is on that.
great job Josh I love these builds
i really like how you explained the video really well unlike the nutball
now time to make me one:)
one question that i have always had is do you pull the paper off one side of the foam core/board when building all the scratch builds?
you guys are at good standing with hobbyking, any chance that you could pass this whole control+motor+batt+all guts in swapable body off to them so they could make it more pro, and consciese? so you basically buy only cheap 4ch sender + cheap mass produced 4ch body filled with electronics ready to fly, all configured so you only attach your airframe with servos and go have fun without messing about too much?

how do you install the speed control, battery, transmitter to the power pod???? plz reply
Hi! Does this model work with cardboard?
no need for that, very very very strong by it self (depron) although, the dollar tree foamboard is 4mm thick, and the most common depron thickness is 6mm, so you will need to make some adjustments to the plans :) but a CF or FG rod will only make it much stronger for very little weight :)

thanks alot flightest

Is there a parts list for this plane? And woukd a 1300 milli amp battery work.
I'm a newbie. How can these things fly without shaping the leading edge and wing into the shape of an airfoil?
Qtn - On the plans, is the C of G position marked by those blue circles centred with crosses ?
laurence boom 6.5inches from the firewall.
Cool. This looks fun Ive never done a scratch build before. I make this with old electrics I have just laying around.. :D
i build 4 channel paper rc planes, bamboo is the best pricewise but carbon fiber is slightly better for reinforcing things
why is the lipo not in the plane
Its so you can check it and not have to take apart the plane
ahh ok
it is hidden bro
Well done !!! Ya Josh your hands take a beating
Great job again. Thanks

Bara Wirananta iiii
What flightcontroller you use, bro?
Its around 5mm or like 3/16inch you can get it from photo framing shops
Is this foam board the same as polystyrene sheeting? Thanks. Ian
Which type of foam he is using
Foam board. It has paper on each side and is 5mm thick. Flite test sells the water resistant version of this and hobbyking sells 5mm thick foam sheets, but you will need to cover this in tape because it doesn't have paper pre applied.
can you put your vertical stabilizers on the wingtips?
Should be able to.I just modified mine with the stabilizers on the wingtips. Will fly it once i finish it.
Hi Josh, could you please tell me how yaw control is made using only ailvones ? I maybe have to put some trim config cause I crash it whenever I try to make a normal turn !
how do you wire every thing what channel do you plug the servos into
This is another wonderful video from you guys!! Thanks!!
Can i use emax cf2812 1500kv motor for this model with 7*5 prop and 3s lipo ??? Please answer, and also what esc i should use for this setup????
Does your transmitter have to have elavon mixing? How do you get the elavons to control correctly?
Great job Josh, looks like a winner :-)
how do you plug everything up what channel do I plug the servos into

just get a versa
Thanks Josh, Thats really awesome.
What kind of foam board do you use?
Also is there measurements on the fuselage plans?
I bought the reccomended 4x txt system but have no idea how to do the eleven mixing, any ideas?
What is the total weight of Delta Wings?
Click on the first link in this video info, it links to their webpage which has the items listed and links to each item
Does flitestore also trades in India
Ailerons are for rolling. Elevators for pitch. Elevons for roll and pitch
Hi team, may i know what type of foam you guys using to make it?
Awesome, anyone know exactly where the c of g should be on this?
what is the cg on this?
Have you a Plan fpr the Plywood Horns??
Ok, thanks. :D But what is the diffrence between them?
Hi, does anyone know what thickness the foam board is? I cannot buy from dollar tree as I am not in the USA, but I can buy an equivalent here in the UK. Thanks
Can you do a video on mixing, for eleavons?
so when can we expect the full 4ch shwappable version?

Very well done, cheers Pete
I've been enjoying your videos. Very well explained. I just wish I counted how many times you said "Go ahead." Lol
what are the odds that this will work with a little cox .049 engine?
where is the cg postition for this ?
Given the current weight restrictions on drones and rc planes (200g) I am curious how heavy that plane was.
it's 249.475 grams @ .55lbs
I mean that's the weight limit
Like this channel, like the fact that you like to do things as economically as possible but I`m unsure if I can "go ahead" or not ? LOL, just playin guys...keep up the good work !
I'm wondering the same thing. I built it and destroy it the same day because i couldn't figure out the cg.
Could you guys do a valkyrie from the ft delta
Hey where is scotttt... he s a nice guy... u both are awesome guys.
Hi Guys
Great videos. I want to build some of these models, but I am in the UK, and I can't find this foam board anywhere. Has anyone any idea where to buy this stuff here ?

hi i am new at this rc plane stuff. is dollar tree foam board the same as foam core board
Yes, also EXTREMELY cost effective!
fun bat next please!! you guys re great. into separates you from the RUclips riff Raff makes it professional
i like the shwappable series
