I find it interesting that Greg Holland is the only one still playing, and has had some success late in his career. It’s interesting because he had a lot injuries and had bounced between several teams for a while.
@@codenamelarry6518 I agree, Herrera and Davis weren’t really built to last imo because they was mostly gas and when the fire burnt it was over. Injuries hurt as well, But Holland in the end had the most “stuff” and thats allowed him to still be a solid reliever even with all his struggles and injuries. His slider has always been nasty and that will never change
3 headed monster was legendary as a royals fan. I remember a stat in 2015 being the royals were like 60-2 with a lead going into the 6th or something weird like that
To be fair, there were definite signs of regression prior to Coors, which made the signing questionable to me at the time. I was hoping they would resign Greg Holland but he was ruined by the Cards, instead.
Greetings! As a loyal Cubs fan, I was excited to get Davis for that one year. I loved watching him dominate those years in KC. Royal fans were blessed to have him. Mr. Davis, if you happen to read this, realize that REAL fans will remember your dominance and not your struggles. Enjoy your life with family, friends and faith.
I firmly believe 2017 NLDS Game 5 and the crazy heroics he pulled in that game are what capped off Davis’ career, like one last show of force before he really went into decline
"Wow maybe if we sign the entire royals bullpen we'll be able to win a world series! It's not like Coors Field is the most extreme pitching environment in MLB or anything and will destroy their effectiveness and careers." - Jeff Bridich probably
So the Rays traded Davis and Shields to KC, leading to Davis being traded to the Cubs for Jorge Soler, and finally Jorge Soler getting traded to the Braves for their pennant run... I think we have another butterfly effect video.
I’ve heard from pitchers that pitching at coors field is especially difficult due to the altitude. Yes the ball goes farther but it also has less rotation thus making breaking balls have less break.
Honestly, these recent videos about pitchers whose careers ended in a screeching halt has me thinking. With videos on Brandon Webb, and now recently Wade Davis, I really feel like Josh Johnson should be talked about more. Especially his 2010 season because that season was a sight to behold. There's also his 2011 where nearly every game he took a no-hitter into the 5th or 6th inning. And there's the part where he was pitching at the time Roy Halladay was dominating the NL. And then there's the part where he fell apart after being traded. There's a lot of talking points here and I really feel JJ should be explored more. Thanks for the content, Storm!
No matter what happened afterwards , he will always be a hero of that fantastic 2014-2015 team which brought so much Joy to all KC fans! Thanks Wade, you will always be a Royal!
1:59 haven't seen the full video yet but in 2017 during a 19-2 game against the diamondbacks Ian Desmond hit a homerun which I think was 472 feet. Though I dont know if you're using clips from before Davis was signed by the rockies.
Curveballs don’t move the same in altitude. Ottavino hasn’t been the same since leaving Coors. His slider gets extra bite due to the altitude. To pitch in Coors you can’t throw curveballs.
Converting coors to a retractable roof stadium or building a dome as well as increasing the time balls are placed in the humidor for might help quell the coors effect
It was almost a guarantee that he would hold the other team scoreless and used to laugh at the opposition for even trying. The great trio of HDH will never be forgotten!
not to argue that he wasn't regressing already in his first year with the rockies, but if I recall correctly he led the league in saves that first year. Also, having been a rockies fan and watching a lot of those games, another big problem that he had after coming to coors field was that he couldn't throw strikes anymore. He'd come out for a save and walk the first two batters he faced, and walks at coors field will destroy you.
Colorado is a Cementery for the pitchers bad move for Davis. The money is not the only for a player when do a choice for a team. The city, the stadium, fans are important element too. Good work keep going and this lock out will be over soon.
Something the Rockies don't understand is that high spin rate fastball and curveball pitchers don't succeed at Coors Field cause the magus effect makes the spin on those 2 pitches in particular, less effective. Wade was a high spin rate FB CB pitcher. No surprise he struggled to succeed at Coors and adapt when they left Coors 🤷🏽♂️
He was awful with the Rockies. A field doesn’t ruin a pitcher elevation or no. Glad he was good for the Royals but was so happy to see him leave when he left the Rockies.
ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR AND REPENT JESUS LOVES YOU HE DIED FOR YOU SO YOU COULD BE FORGIVEN ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS AND REPENT!🙏🙏 AMEN.!!!
Dude the Rockies have been bad since 2016 Until Now plus Coors Field has the highest elevation in MLB Stadiums to date. It’s not necessarily him it’s not his fault the organization is bad and he getting older lol.
Mr.Storm, you have done it again. As a Royals fan whose favorite player was Davis, this warms my heart to remember the fond memories he brought KC.
check please!

@@XxwolfhunterxX1900 I loved that on opening day of 2021, Wade Davis closed the game, and I had my phone with video on standby for the quote. 😁

It's crazy how all 3 of those Royals guys had fairly similar careers after the World Series

Britton's ERA+ was 806 in 2016! That is insane
I made a vid on that season too!
Thanks for making this vid. It gives me very good nostalgia
4:16 casually sees that 641 ERA+ by Fernando Rodney.
Ikr, one of the most random dominant relief years in mlb history
Zach Britton topped 800 in 2016
He was a good cub too. He set a record for the save record.
I didn’t know that. He set a saves record in Colorado too
If my memory is correct, he didn’t blow a single save until mid September in that season

Out of every team in the MLB I can see everyone winning except for the Rockies. They’ll never keep pitchers with the Coors effect
