    I've been watching a lot of old RoboGames fights that people have saved over the years, it's very fun seeing the middleweight division in the modern day, and you still get what is basically Original Sin Vs Last Rites, the more things change the more they seem to stay the same.

      While parts chosen and power levels improve over time, there are many things that do stay the same.

    Yeah I felt bad for the Budget Bot team when they were having so many issues trying to get their bot working, but the Who's Your Daddy fight was something else! A little concerning there at the beginning when Mortician's weapon appeared to not want to fully get up to speed. But, when it did...that death hum! And such good driving from both Justin and Jim Yeh!

      Yeah, Justin's driving is clearly improved vs last Robogames -- not that it was bad, but it was a learning experience that has paid off. Can't wait for the finals footage!

    The middle weight division is just the original heavyweight division just half the scale. Probably because the middle weight scale is Robo games exclusive so I wanna see more with the middleweights but for right now it’s San Jose exclusive

    -- Ray Billings. The master of turning into the attack. I enjoy the subtle tactics. Like popping out on the diagonal when you get charged at the start; give that bar(s) some spool up time. But say, watching Tombstone in Battlebots just turn that bar point blank into the flanks of an opponent. You know something important is going to happen.

    Man does it sound menacing when it's up to speed.

    @Ray - Ever think about incorporating a position sensor/accelerometer and/or an overload/overcurrent sensor to power down the weapon motor (put in neutral) when the bot goes flying and after a strike? A quick (automatic) 1/2 second "off" cycle might help to mitigate *some* of the self damage your bots get. Of course, weight and another failure point would have to be considered.... just food for thought. Thanks for all your content!

    I like it how the floor gets cleared of dust by the robot. For extra intimidation value, I think the robot deserves a series of lights on the back that show the speed of the weapon, with it colour coded so it has a single red light in the middle if it is not rotating, then some amber lights either side if it is getting up to speed and then a full deck of red lights if it is at warp factor nine. This would not be displaying any information that was not known already but it would be a cool flex and great for the audience. Think of it as a linear rev indicator.

      At one point in time, there was a builder who was thinking of trying to set up a persistence of vision effect on the weapon itself, so that it would display rpm and ke numbers while it was spinning. I have to admit that would in fact be pretty dang cool!

      @@ray9368 Studio lights make truly fancy light shows difficult to achieve, particularly when you have weight limits. However, the audience does like a good show, hence flames, although practically useless, are always popular with the crowd.
      There are two types of flames - weapons and battery fires. What could work for the show is a fake battery fire, feigned with an inert smoke housed in the chassis frame, under pressure, and released with technology you know well.
      Imagine taking a bit hit, to turn on the faux smoke and embolden the opponent to assume that the robot was about to flame out. The countdown starts, the opponent are jumping up and down in their box assuming they have defeated the legend with their pathetic wedge thing, for the weapon to spin up and utterly demolish them whilst they are 'enjoying' a false sense of security.

    • @ray9368
      @ray9368  3 месяца назад +6

      We were fighting with some controller issues, which sort of required a soft touch to get it to work right. Which is fairly easy to do when testing, but the heat of battle makes it just a tad harder to manage. More things to improve for down the road, as always.
