  • Rasheed Wallace recounts a story from his time with the Portland Trail Blazers where NBA Commissioner David Stern tried to blackmail him and the organization. After Rasheed's famous "both teams played hard, god bless and good night" statements, Stern threatened to give the Blazers a bad draft pick if they didn't get rid of Wallace.

If David Stern is threatening to give them a 'bad draft pick', does that mean he is admitting that the draft lottery is fixed?

I'll never forget the Blazers were playing the Lakers in a playoff game. K. Bryant goes up for a shot and with his off arm moves Sheed's arm out the way while he's trying to block his shot; clear offensive foul. Hue Hollins blows the whistle for the foul on K. Bryant but in the midst of announcing the foul he realizes that it would be Bryant's 6th foul and he would foul out the game. So Hue Hollins calls the foul on Sheed and he went crazy! People had to hold him back. After the game at the press conference, you could tell he wanted to say that this shit was rigged but he basically bit his tongue and said this shit ain't nothing but entertainment anyway.

I remember that too. That happened again in some regular season game back in like 00 when Bonzi Wells was consistently scoring on Kobe for the entire second quarter. After the half, Kobe just started hacking him and the refs swallowed the whistle. That kind of stuff happened all the time

David Stern ran the NBA the same way Vince McMahon Jr ran the WWF/WWE. Both were straight gangstas. Stern was never above rigging things to get an outcome he thought was best for the league.

The fact that this is even debated today is scary. I saw this with the Bulls. My dad told me about the Knicks and Ewing.
Plus I never liked Stern's smugness, so I have no doubt he wouldn't be above "making the pieces fit".

NBA has always been rigged. It really started to be big when Lebron got in the league. Rigging was so big John Cena made a joke that the NBA was the WWE and that Lebron is now playing the heel. Who jokes about something like this at the ESPY award. Now Draftkings/Fanduel ads and commercials are on throughout every NBA game with their logos in the arena. Its super obvious now.

I believe every word of what Rasheed said.
If you take into account the way AI was treated and Stern's crusade against hip hop culture, it's easy to imagine a kid from the street named RASHEED, who won an upset win with the mfing Pistons against the NBA darling Lakers and then went on to a team branded the JAIL BLAZERS, getting their career tampered with by a commissioner known for shady bs.
No doubt Stern's beef with Rasheed was personal.

Sheed CUD have been a SUPERSTAR but instead he chose to keep a chip on his shoulder towards “the man” instead of actually going for a chip. Sometimes even the greatest have to swallow their pride and say “Yes sir” and go with it. There was a reason Stern wanted him blackballed. He didnt care to blantantly show disrespect to the league refs and fans so what do you expect. Stern made them stand for the National Anthem or they cud hit the road….and they stood. Now A.S. has turned the league into flopping cry babies. Dont get me wrong I loved Sheeds actual GAME. I was just frustrated he cudnt bite his tongue and respect the game.

It wasn't the game he didn't respect it was the people running the league. Sheed has a chip and was one quarter away from winning a second chip. And possibly could have had a 3rd if it wasn't for a certain set of referees who are publicly known frauds. Sheed was outspoken about the fraudulent bulls*t. Thats why he was blackballed. The mob can't have disrupters. David Stern was a supreme hypocrite and power hungry tyrant. He was against weed, but made it okay to shoot players up with "Approved" drugs. In Stern's last days, he became the new age Cheech and Chong.
