CORRECTION: The RX 580 along with other Polaris and Vega cards actually no longer receive "full" driver support.
Instead they only receive critical updates but are no longer in parity with regular updates for newer cards so my bad!
Full quote from AMD below:
"The AMD Polaris and Vega graphics architectures are mature, stable and performant and don’t benefit as much from regular software tuning. Going forward, AMD is providing critical updates for Polaris- and Vega-based products via a separate driver package, including important security and functionality updates as available. The committed support is greater than for products AMD categorizes as legacy, and gamers can still enjoy their favorite games on Polaris and Vega-based products."
Yes the rx 580 8gb is worth buying in 2024 if you dont live in a developed country there saved you from the top comment
I'm still using the msi rx580 8gb, such a good card!
Would it work with my 450W PSU undervolted?

This is a very viable entry level card by all means, It has 8GB of Vram too which makes it pretty good at 1080p medium settings. I use a RX580 in my TV rig that sits under the TV and is used for emulation and indie games, runs stuff like stardew valley, minecraft, corekeeper and stuff at 60+ FPS.
I just picked up one from ebay for $43 and I am installing the drivers as I type this in an old Dell XPS case. Excited to see what I can get out of it just for fun.
The XFX RX 580 8gb is only 140 dollars on Best Buy. I used this card for 8 almost 9 months in 2023 and it never failed me. Played every game I threw at it. Once I got an upgrade I gave it to my friend who’s used it ever since without issue, but only get it if your using 1080p, it’s not a good 1440p card.
I just got one of these on eBay to put into a computer that my daughters will be using for school. It will likely rarely run any games, but I did choose this card because I do have a big library of older titles that are kid friendly.
Thanks, Jack. I probably won't be purchasing the RX 580 (and if I did, I'd definitely opt for the 8GB variant), but I'm quite impressed by its performance. I only game at 1080p, and my game library consists of mainly older titles, so I could definitely see using this GPU as a budget 1080p option. Yes, (imo) the RX 580 is still a viable GPU option in 2024 (for gamers like me 🤓).
My daily driver looks a bit like your test rig, by the way, because I built it in a black NZXT H210i. I'm using an i9-13900T (which is kept nicely cooled by a 'chromax black' Noctua NH-U9S), and a ZOTAC RTX 3060ti.
Thanks for the video! 👍🏼
EDIT: Typos! 🙄
Glad you enjoyed the video! Your rig sounds awesome. I ran an EVGA RTX 3060 Ti for a while and I loved it, especially since it overclocked extremely well! Thanks for watching!
I'm actually using an RX 580 4GB variant. it's quite a good card but mine does reach as high as 85 C during peak performance.
Re-paste change thermal pads
try undervolting
Still using my Red Dragon Rx580 8gb graphics card! Solid performance in 1080p medium to high settings!
580 8gb was my gpu for 3 years. Upgraded to a 6700xt. Now im hopping onto the 7800xt. Come from humble beginnings. Started with a dell optiplex and now building a pretty high end system. Sometimes you just need a gpu to get you through tough times. I still have my rx580 just as a fall back gpu
I played the black op 6 beta, avg gps 150 at 1080p, with better drivers we could get better
Sounds promising!
It also comes down to a PC system, what you got there. I'm still on the Intel i7 377K and it probably couldn't handle better cards....so I need to buy something cheap and good. (For "Tiny Glade", hehe) We have a lot of these here in Sweden for around 500 Skr (50 USD)....I may buy one used, but scared that they are from miners and hardcore players, lol.
We should be ruthlessly honest towards this card : RX 580, 580 20248 SP , 590 GME , 570 ... are cards that are on level or slightly better than GPU in PS4 Pro . Thus, if the game is released and works well on PS4, chances are you will get better performance with this card. However, since releases for PS4 are coming to an end, you will most likely encounter games released for PS5. Wit these, you could count on 1080p low-med with FSR, FPS 30-40. In some games it would be worse due to poor optimization. Drivers are not the issue: drivers for RX 580 are polished enough. Card supports DirectX level 12_0, and no driver would change that. Overall, it is still viable for budget gamer (providing you get right price) , if you are satisfied with PS4 ports. Make sure to have relatively decent PSU (at least 25 A on +12 V rail) since it is power hungry.
It's not definitely true, console games are different than pc ones, console games tend to be better/differently optimized, so if rx 580 stronger than ps4 gpu that doesn't mean rx 580 gonna have more fps
@@MS-zp5by Keep deluding yourself 😁 From PS4 onwards, consoles are just locked down PCs. They even use same GPU/CPU architecture (made by AMD) and same graphical libraries. RX 580 is much stronger then regular PS4, even slightly better than PS4 Pro. Thus, games with RX 580 are on the same level as PS4 Pro. Nothing better , nothing worse.
@@aleksazunjic9672 Clearly you have no idea how game development works.
While it is true that modern consoles typically use PC hardware, older consoles often made use of PC graphics cards as well. The Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Wii U, the Wii, and the Gamecube all used ATI graphics...
What's different is the number of configurations. On console, you can optimize for one specific architecture, allowing for a degree of performance tuning you can't get on PC due to the substantially greater number of hardware configurations.
Before you tell someone to "keep deluding yourself", maybe actually understand literally anything about the field you're vomiting obvious ignorance in, okay? :)
For added reference, the AMD Radeon HD 7870 (the card from 2012) is a much closer match to the PS4.
The PS4 Pro is a custom first gen Polaris iGPU (it's much closer to the RX 470 with slower RAM than the 580)
If you just play the games the card was made for you are fine, cannot expect it to run well on modern platforms, i really like this card, back in the day i played all my favorite games on this card, mined crypto on and off, was glorious
These cards OC'd pretty well from what I remember...
They do. May even try some OC with this card live on stream potentially
The rx 580 is out of official driver support, the last official supported drivers are from 2024-03-20. There are "aftermarket" drivers.
Looks like I read the wrong article to confirm this so my bad. Thanks for the heads up! I'll pin a comment to correct this 👍
You mean something like NimeZ?
@@donaldnemesis393 Yup. But these drivers gave me alot problems and more heat coming from gpu on full load.
The RX 580 8GB is faster than GTX 1650 GDDR6 and Radeon 890m iGPU, but slightly slower than RTX 3050 6GB
From what I heard their overclock headroom are pretty huge, they're out of official driver support but there's modded NimeZ Driver
Overall they're still enough to run any latest title at 1080p lowest quality, but not for long. The used rx 6600 might or might not have the better perf/price than used rx 580, but the rx 6600 will clearly serves you much longer
I had a 580 8G back in 2019. It was a solid card. Now i have a spare 3050 6G and a RTX2070
Can you please include gpu memory usage in your afterburner overlay for future videos?
Forgot to include it, my bad!
im going to get the rx580, im going from the intel to the rx, its gonna be a game changer, was gonna go with the gtx 1650 but i found the rx580, it was cheaper and has almost the same performence
And what CPU you are using there?
Best card ever build ,i use it still.
Blender dropped support for this card some time ago. So if that's the program you're planning to use it with, that's something to consider. I actually ordered a different card, but some Aliexpress scammer sent me the RX 580 instead of what I asked for. It seems like an okay card. Too bad Cycles doesn't recognize it.
If you have like many unplayed game in your library it's worth it. But if you are the kind of gamer that play 3 year old game up to the latest game, don't.
Starfield is not simply intensive, it is unoptimized.
what monitor are you using can you elaborate the specs
as a father and retired gamer it worth it depends on countries and price. buying high end latest model would be not necessary as got almost no time with gaming..real life matter
The rx 580 is 50 bucks on olx, it is used but it isn't bad at all
This card was such a bargain years ago. I still use it to play cyberpunk and rdr2, graphics is great for me. I now try to run AI models on it but just to try what works
i have 5 next to me, to be paired with 2640v4s and dirt cheap ali mobos for sub $200 built decent gaming rigs.
I have a RX 580 laying around somewhere debating if it's worth keeping or selling but the prices ain't worth it imo seems more trouble shipping it, better to keep a backup gpu maybe?
A couple of years back the p[rices skyrocketed for some reason and everyone started buying these again but that time has passed so yeah you're best just keeping it as a backup.
Hi, I wanted to clear up a doubt that if it is normal for a rx 580 to be 30c without moving anything. Thanks!
yep
talking about such, when can we expect the next amd and nvidia releases?
shud one buy gpu now or wait until...? when?
Seen rumours that Nvidia is preparing RTX 50 series for this month but it seems new AMD cards wont be around till maybe 2025 or even 2026?
@@PCJack wow, so, i was thinking of the 7900 xt... shud i wait only for rtx 50 and once they are announced, choose adn buy card before xmas?
@@EvansdiAl Maybe if you can hold off until RTX 50 series if it isn't going to be too long then maybe you'll have a few more options and maybe even some price drops on older Nvidia cards? Otherwise I'd go 7900 XT if that's what suits you!
@@PCJack until november sales it is then!
I'm using Asus dual rx 580 8gb , it is great gpu ! i can play all games i want , there are few games on 1080p this card can't run or really struggle to run but for price you pay for this gpu it's definitely worth it . But looking into future upgrade is necessary if you want to play new games, this card is good but from now on as new games releases i think it will be like something like 50% games you will be able to run on 1080p 30fps. I'm thinking of upgrading to rx 6600 or something similar. But for anyone looking for cheap, legendary gpu rx 580 (8gb) is super worth it and if you consider 1060 6gb choose rx 580 as it is few percents better
im still using the rx 580 8gb but its not performing as well as it use to
The video card is beast, i use it and sadly it can run most of 2024 games With struggling.
My buddy picked one up for $30. And paired with 10400 n 16gb. Still performs well at 1080p if your just beginning to get into pc
*you're
For under $100 I still don't feel bad I had a way worse card that was 4gb and nit an official card
should i buy this card?
If you're playing low demanding games like league yes.
If you're playing the latest games and especially single player games such as cyberpunk no
@@Plight_ i have 60hz monitor and am so broke but i wana try rdr2
@@Crekoey-zc4cb
It's your resolution you're looking out for not your Hz
If you're planning on running rdr2 on 1440p I'd recommend saving up for a stronger card
This card can pull through on 1080p but it'll be rough. Your frame rate is going to dip pretty low at times depending on what's happening on screen. (A low frame rate means sometimes the game will feel really choppy.) If you can endure that I'd say go for it otherwise you should save up a bit more and wait until black Friday
@@Plight_ i have 1600x900 screen tho
@@Plight_ am used to play on 20-30 fps lol
RX 580 was dropped to legacy drivers not supporting anymore.
So much better experience then ps4 pro no cap.
*than...
No the RX 580 8GB is not worth buying in 2024 there i just saved you 5 minutes
It's not that black and white.
Most of the world are relatively poor, and a new video card can represent weeks to months of work.
What a Polaris offers is access to every 3d and 2d game prior to about 2020 and a few after that.
If you look at it that way with what you CAN play in mind, ~$100 is a pretty good deal and the card is still very usable.
Depends on price and expectations.
I bought it from a person the exact same for 30$ or in norway its 300 kr
You can easy hit 1080p60 on high for most modern releases, for less than the price of just one of those releases.
How is that not worth buying?
@@seearbi1872 im waiting for my pc parts delivery amma update you guys soon
Im only using pc for Crypto trading so it should be enough for me
I have RX580 2048sp. Cost me less than a 1650 4 GB
Plays most games at 1080p 60fps fine. Battlefield 2042 looks really good. Assetto Corsa with mods 60 fps
It's an RX 570 with a scam name.
AMD finewine.
rx 6600 secondhand better
