Ive read heaps of comments here, FB, twitter and so on about my vids and I think its the right time for me to say this... I honestly do not mind being told I copied Napom. If I never heard Napoms beats, I will probably not have the style I have now. So big ups to Napom for giving me so much influence! However, I want to thank KIM from France first because my addiction of liprolls kicked off when he came to judge the Japanese Champs in 2012. Then WINGS from Taiwan changed my views on how to use liprolls when I versed him in an International Battle. Then BAAM! Napom! Absolutely blew my mind! So yes. I love liprolls...so I do it. Is it that if I dont have a 100% Super Original style, Im a bad beatboxer? I share my beatbox because if there is even one, just one person who say they enjoyed listening to me, then Im happy. So the question I have in my mind when people say I copied Napom is... "I copied Napom so....? What?" lol It seems like the evaluation of beatbox today is based on battle criteria even if its not a battle. Whatever happened to the time when people would just do what they like and people enjoyed it? Its happening here in Japan as well... so I call up my mate GALE from STRAYAA!!! Hey, Etto. Great video. I've been looking at your recent battles in Japan. I really like your style. Originality certainly doesn't translate to greatness. As you say, styles develop due to the influence of others, so no one is totally original; NaPoM's style is what it is because of the beatboxers before him, and so on, and so forth. Liprolls do sound great. What else can really be done? Pure percussion? A basic drum set? I saw your battles with にも - he only seems to have basic percussion sounds, except for an imitation of a guitar here and there.
The community has got to realize that if someone uses a certain sound, it doesn't mean they are copying someone. Just because they have similar flow or use the same sounds does not mean anything. That's like doing a kick drum and saying you're copying the old school beatboxers like Biz, Kenny, etc
Why is it when a beatboxer does liprolls people automatically say they're copying Napom? And yet whenever others use throat bass no one says they're copying Reeps one or big ben. Or when they use inward bass they say they're copying B-Art? Just because someone uses a certain sound other beatboxers use doesn't mean he or she is copying their style! Smh!
Dude Ettoman wasn't copying Napom. He kept using kick drum so he was copying Alem. I think I also heard a high hat and Dharni uses high hats so this guy copied Dharni too. *joking :P*
Nice comment man..:) We learn by each other..TheRe are plenty of liproll sounds ..we cant predict that the beatbox routine we are practicing is same with others routine eventhough we dont hear it from them .:)
