JCPenney - $1bn revitalization plans, will it work? See the one of the remaining stores, in 30mins

A very EMPTY JCPenney on a Saturday afternoon at Golf Mill Shopping Center in Niles, Illinois - an iconic store from my childhood, alongside now-forgotten names like Woolworths, Service Merchandise, Sears, and Kmart.
This could be my final visit to this beloved department store, and as I reminisce about family visits from my youth, I'm struck by JCPenney's recent transformation. The company, facing challenges like many others in the industry, has unveiled a bold plan to invest $1 billion by fiscal 2025. This initiative involves revamping their website and app, upgrading stores, and implementing a cutting-edge inventory management system.
In a strategic move, JCPenney, under the leadership of CEO Marc Rosen, announced its intention to fund this substantial investment using existing cash flow, emphasizing its robust financial position without incurring additional debt.
JCPenney, a pioneer in online retail during the 1990s, struggled to adapt to the evolving retail landscape amid leadership changes. By 2020, the company faced a daunting $5 billion debt, leading to a bankruptcy filing in May. However, the story takes a positive turn, as JCPenney was rescued from bankruptcy the same year through an acquisition by Simon Property Group and Brookfield Property Partners for $800 million.
