that shirt Large Pro is wearing is dope as hell
I always have, and always will love Large Professor.
True B- Boy.
Large Professor is the face of the old NYC.
Large pro is a classy human being in real life, its not an act either. He radiates righteous energy.
Large pro gotta be the coolest-sounding cat in Hip Hop. Every time I hear him my coolness notch goes up a little bit. Salute that brother.
I LOVE this✊🏽! Such great energy from you both!
LP is hip hop to the core , a real cool brother
energy is good.we lose some of the audio from.talking over each other
Thank you so much!
That you too, welcome to Jam Rock
@djkennyparker
Love the show Kenny. One thing you could have pushed back on though, or rather cleared up was the timeline around Extra P helping Q Tip how to use the SP and or produce. Q Tip produced the first Tribe albums and it was a lot more than just "rhymes and records". Maybe Large P helped him around 1990 rather than 1993.
Salute to Kenny P and Extra P! Thank you for these interviews.
Thanks for watching!
Legendary interview! So much history and memories. Love it. Salute! ✊🏽
As a former DJ, wannabe producer (Kenny, I'm the guy we met at the wedding in Rhode Island from two years ago. We helped you at the end with your equipment. I asked you about the reel and you mentioned Ced Gee would be best to answer on your show. Btw, I saw the Ced Gee show. Salute) I loved Large Pro.
One thing he didn't mentioned was the "Know Naim" Remix of Tribe's "Oh my God". When you hear that one, the original you don't want to hear anymore.
Now that LP revealed he produced "Step Back " Eric B and Ra. There's a part in that song (I wont to say it's at 1:20 -- 1:25 portion of it) where it just STOPS for a half oof second. From the album, to the CD, etc. Wondered why that was.
1:21:39 Again I'm a huge Large Pro fan but if I'm not mistaken, by then it was the 2000s. The sound had changed completely. I thought that project mostly sounded very outdated then and I'm pro "BOOM BAP". But I remember being excited for this because I thought it was supposed to drop in 94 or 95. That "The LP" was a GREAT working title for it.
But great to hear from Large Pro and helping me relive things.
Darnit, you forgot to ask him about "Watch Roger Do His Thing". That was '89 and if I'm not mistaken (I haven't seen the video in years, now I'm gonna look it up) the late Guru was in it at the very beginning. Hard to believe they did that in high school (according to his timeline). That was a great song with an awesome message. Would have loved his back story on that one.
This could be the best convo so far KP. The passion for the culture and the laughter between you both comes through
Salute to KP & LP.
Thank you and salute!!!
There needs to be a bio pic of Large Pro
Money In Da Bank is a banger
Top billing ain’t nothing like the first Chris Brown
I remember Fakin Funk it was a hard jam! I remember the jam being tore down on 98.7 kiss, DJ Red Alert, and WBLS. I still have the cassette tapes
This man is HIPHOP personified. Definitely one of the real godfathers of the culture. Mad props to Large Pro for all the musical blessings he’s graced us with throughout the years.🙏🏼
Phenomenal interview Kenny. Peace.
Thanks for listening!
Man, this channel is the best for hip hop (esp. for older heads)! This is heaven for me, LP after Ced and Pete Rock! Nuts. The convos are so good, exactly the sort of thing i'd like to ask them about.
Plus Fakin the Funk is my fav Large Pro, beat, that and maybe Lookin at the front door are maybe my fav Main Source track.
Great to see the show continue to grow. I recall when we kept on asking about Just Ice for the interview and now you hit us with Ced, Pete and Paul The Large Pro!! Keep them coming - very dope. Kenny, you need to drop a reminder at the beginning of the week or sometime mid week to remind us who is coming on. Dope show and conversation.
True
In 89 I had the same equipment which was a Casio SK-1 and a Yamaha RY-30 drum machine. And when I got the EMU SP 12 Turbo I used the Hi Res time correction and tap tempo button to truncate the air or unwanted audio from the start and end points of my samples.
You were way ahead of the other producers in the south. Straight up hip-hop from the heart. One Love Brother.
@@richardsimmons9952 Thanks Family!!! You were definitely there for the transition from the SK -1 & Yamaha drum machine to the SP 12 Turbo
@@drfangaz-pronouncedlikefan4019 most definitely, we went and picked up the SP-12 together
Flushing All Day!

So many of my questions have been answered by listening to this interview. I've been a fan since Krush Raps video show. My mom introduced me to the music of Main Source.

EXTRA P IN THE PLACE TO BE ON DA MIC 🎤
Helluva Show Fellaz..🫡🏁
had to run an errand last night at 8:30 and got back to the driveway around 9:30 and eye heard the live still going frum the window and i's like hail yeah!...listened to it again in its entirety this afternoon...that extra positive vibe that Large Professor and you display is why if anyone asks me whut my school of thought is, its Hip Hop, first and foremost...anything else is secondary, tertiary, quaternary etc...these self righteous lower vibrational dudes are lames and need to go take a nap...congrats on an epic #41 Mr. Parker.
Thanks!
Imo Large Pro is the only producer whose never ever put out a wack beat. Unlike Primo or Dre for example he doesn't have a distinct "sound" per se. In other words you wouldn't know its a Large Pro beat by just listening to it.
49:27 That song World Peace is DOPE! I was playing that joint over and over just yesterday... So Relevant great energy, definitely should've been a single!
Absolutely should have been a single. Jive Records dropped the ball with that one.
LP hitting the Simply Grapefruit!!
Extra P is just one of those Super Hip-Hop dudes! Always good energy and knowledge. He is a Hip-Hop treasure.
Couldn't agree more!
💪🏿💪🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Xtra P in the house!
Down South Up Top
This is a Dope podcast interview with LP & he is one of my favorite producers form the 90’s. The first Main Source Album is a cd 💿 I’ve never gotten. I wanna get it but I believe that cd will be expensive to buy. So at some point I will but as of now, I’ll get it. But this is a great section & hopefully u do one with MC Ice T or any WestCoast MC Kenny Parker. Peace 🕊️
x AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH BUT IT AINT NEVER YOUR HOUSE!
And I like to hang out, and hustle w/my friends...
Y’all skipped Watch Roger do his thing Main Source single
Good Brother right there. Large Pro is down to earth and a good brother.
Yes he is!
STAHHR IS DOPE 💥💥💥💥
1:13:37-1:14:22 Nas took the torch from Rakim and talked about the block that no one has ever done or did.
WBLS and Marley Marl is the missing link to connect a lot of those rappers and producers..
Facts!
Terminator X P.E. And KRS-1 are so underrated? 2-4 of my Favorite albums still to this day.👊🏼💯
Temple training and the truth song
Kenny, I know you're excited, but you gotta let the guests finish their sentences. You be cutting them off and moving on when we really wanted to hear them finish their story. 🤷🏾♂️
I'm looking @ the front door
Him (Large) and Mikey need to do a joint together even an ep.
When "The Wanted Dead or Alive" LP dropped I couldn't wait to cop it.
When it got to "Talk like s*x" track I must have rewound it FIVE times straight, I didn't get to side two until an hour later.📀
LOL!
SWV “Right Here” came out in 92/93
Jill Scott Missy Elliot and Queen Latifa and Laun Hill
