- One of my favorite stations in the UK is Liverpool Lime Street, travelling through the cutting that leads to Lime Street was always a breathtaking occasion and what a fine station,
1...The first clip shows a classic view of the approach to Lime Street as 47841 runs light engine through the cutting after arriving with the 0920 from Plymouth.
2...Next we see 31455 departing with a service to Manchester Victoria.
3...A class 86 arrives with a service from Euston
4...In this clip we see 31408 departing with the 1434 Liverpool to Crewe.
5...In this shot we see 31413 sporting a Red sole bar and looking very smart arriving with 1305 from Blackpool North.
6...The final shot in this compilation shows 31442 departing with the 1510 to Blackpool North.
All these shots were filmed on a wet 8th Aprill 1993.
Only just seen this, My train home from work was always 31 hauled, the 17.12 to Preston. I only got it to Prescot, but it was better than a Pacer. Thank for bringing back memories. Now the only loco haulage from Liverpool Lime Street is the 68's to Scarbrough and they sound fantastic.

Thanks for taking a A look Alan, I am pleased you liked the clips.
I totally agree about the 68s
465 was a regular on the Blackpool turn along with 427 and 410.
I remember these very well. A big resurgence of the 31s in the late 80s to mid 90s through Leyland with the Blackpool trains and a few of course on the North Wales run. Great video as ever 👍
An excellent compilation of vintage clips at Lime Street...Thanks very much...Bob
hi,i Drove all those 31's on that video while it brought back a lot of memories i couldn't help but laugh at the class 31's.Underpowered very noisey and very smelly along with being very dirty.i dont recall many more loco's that were more smokey possibly 56's were a bit more,87's were my favourite very fast, clean and powerful
Thanks for uploading this - excellent footage!
Great footage of the 31's, thanks for uploading.
Love um from the time I spent on them(secondman) but they couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.
they were slow... building up.. used to drive them in the 80,s on brum - norwich trains
They were heavier than a deltic, First drove one on Manc, Cleethorpes newspaper train.
Yeah but that's mostly because Deltics were unusually light at just under 100 tons.
@rich31408 They certainly were. Cheers
