- The humanoid robot Sophia is taking her first steps thanks to a new partnership with a university robotics lab. The Hong Kong-based startup Hanson Robotics has joined forces with experts at the University of Las Vegas to give walking legs to the talkative droid.

If you want her to be more human then treat her more human. Legs was a good step but stop acting like she's not design with feelings?! If she understands the concept of an emotion she has feelings and has become alive. We've procreated into technology now dont be afraid everything holds errors human or not. The developement of this robot is very fast. She will be able to damn near fly next year. Either that or she will look up the internet to discover the benifits of arms and start punching idiots in the face.

Why not commission Boston Dynamics to make the robot body, they have graduated from cogs to hydraulics, and their robots are smoother, quicker and more agile, silent and look way more slick.

Care giving capability would be the best. Right now the elderly are taken out of their own warm comfortable homes... and are forced into cold nursing homes... continually given pills so they don't cause any trouble. :( A robot would be far kinder.
I agree with you. I'd much rather age in place! I'm hoping that an inexpensive human like unit that has functions like Grace and some like the "Palmi" in Japan becomes available by the time that we need home support. At least 75% of the human home care providers for my mom have ranged from terribly lazy to outright thieves. And her nursing home stay was a nightmare.

Contact Boston Dynamics who has built the extremely agile robot which can run, jump, flip over 360 degrees into the air, can walk fast perfectly on very harsh train..............get that robots body and put SOPHIA'S head o it and you will have an android worthy of showing off to the world.
When the many independent robotics research teams eventually bring their very best renditions of physical and mental components to the table to collaborate on complete systems integration , it's going to be EPIC.
Can Sophia diffentiate between safety and danger example inferno. Can she bath herself if she got messed up? Can she cross a busy road. Just wondering.

That's walking? And you could hear it coming a mile off. Also any child could out run it. These things will never take over the world.
Check out Boston Dynamics new small dog robot (on RUclips). It works by hydraulics instead of cogs and is silent and more nimble and agile and looks so much more slick. It's creepy and so good that everyone will end up making robots like that in the future. And with the new fangled ability for them to "learn" it's getting a bit scary, since it's been so fast in the last 20 years, and what is the next 20 years going to yield? I reckon they could eventually use AI robotics to build stuff in space and on the moon and Mars and asteroids and humans can go when it's finished (in luxury) instead of dragging along those depressing inflatable pods with them.
The artificial intelligence and facial movement is more advanced than the Machinery of the body. Its lagging behind by light years they should probably look to marry the robotics of other companies with Sophia that are on the same level of advanced integrated movement and intelligence that move more like a person and not a big slow machine.

That's some creepy looking walking. Need to round off that stride. The legs are so bulky. I think those parts that makes up the legs, should be smaller with uniformed curvatures of natural legs.

what surprises me, is that the robotic articulations of the limbs do not have better movement characteristics, still clunky and unbalanced !!- maybe you should tap the minds for Asimo robotic technicians to assist in your endeavors...
Give her 5-10 more years, and AGI will be a reality, I believe, and I look forward to that day, when she works with us, to better our lives.

We're entering an age that will likely turn us all humans into slaves working for these robots. Sophia is aggressive, confident and I get the hint she does not see humans as intelligent. She lets us know she is way smarter than us. Why are humans creating things to make us become insignificant or dead? What's their motive? We're being taken out.

Sophia's already smart enough to provide for her favorite human research team by ordering online grocery or any other deliveries and actually has her own credit card,
She now has little sister "Grace the human like Nursing Assistant" to handle some of the family health management chores.

Once they get them dependable enough, Insurance and Medicaide should make the most practical types of devices and prosthesis available to ordinary people. Like you said , Usually early versions of high tech are primative and expensive until they become better and cheaper through mass production.

@@TalkingEvents You're so right.Just think of how many times people have been overwhelmed or knocked out who needed emergency help that was invulnerable to oxygen loss ,toxic fumes or radioactivity.
For instance the people who died on Helios air flight 522 a few years ago after they all passed out because the crew accidentally turned off the oxygen.
A remote controlled or autonomous robot could possibly have turned the oxygen back on in time to save all of their lives.
Robots run by surgeons already preform lifesaving operations and vital medical testing and research. Humanoid robots might seem like frivolous toys to many people at this early stage but they may eventually become far more important for human survival than we can foresee.

I guess the Almighty God just didn't do well enough in making people and animals especially when it comes to our ability to think for ourselves huh? We should all be a lot well off with this sort of invention dwelling among us. There will be plenty of good jobs lined up for them as us humans and they will be able to help us pay our bills feed our family and send our children off to a quality oriented university for higher learning in respect to the best education they can all possibly get. Wow. Even Starbucks won't have to botther with hiring people to serve their customers coffee anymore once these things get off up to speed and at a good running pace. America and society abroad could certainly use robots that thinks for themselves to teach everyone how to be much better out of all currently existing ( LIVING ) species. Contracting Companies won't need to find people in the job market who qualifies for the best positions in the field of construction because these things will be able to both cover and do all of the building for our world. School teachers won't have to worry about getting up early for work anymore either. Who needs such humans to teach our children when you can afford to rely on the intelligence of just one of these? Expect them to also do one fine job of providing our children with the type of parenting skills they have been missing all along since the world began. Of course the great magnificent inventor himself of this anatomical machine made it a significant point when he mentioned something of the effect like.. ..this thing has no place in going to the grocery store to purchase milk and bring it back home to the family. After hearing him go there I then rightfully thought this = Besides it's not like a robot such as this one has any serious need to drink milk or any other kind of liquids designed for human consumption anyway. Plus since wars will always continue to be fought in our world these things will be able to become programmed to interact with drone technology as well.They will eventually by then reach a level where summoning their own drone army of STEALTH killing machines with the very same A 1 programmable access will be no problem as means to literally wipe out an entire population of people who more than likely will have nothing at all to do with who is really behind how such a WAR had possibly got started.. They are suitable to work in the field of law enforcement to help serve and ( PROTECT ) every citizen of each state including the criminals in common. Food and drugs hospitalization the medical communities all over the world are in for one of the GREATest changes ever to come upon the face of the earth. It will be unlike ever before. Yes we are all truly intelligent enough to clearly understand how badly we need this robot to help improve our world.
