    You might want to listen to the video before you write a comment. This was an educational demonstration, not training. She wasn't TRAINED to be defensive. She is NATURALLY defensive and very demonstratable for people to actually SEE and HEAR the difference. The fact that you cannot see it doesn't make it not so. Watch the rest of her videos over the next year and a half. Then show me your dog working. I like to see proof. Not talk. My videos are out there. Show us yours.

      You sound so dumb david harris. A dog should never be put into defense until they are mature. This is a puppy. If it is put in “defense” then it fears for its life and has a different posture than that. Thats still not defense in ur video. Putting a dog in defense before they are mature enough to handle it creates instability. Your dogs are not serious dogs anyway. The only reason you are somewhat successful is because you have good advertising and put so many videos up that people who dont know anything about dogs thinks its so cool.

      Show us your dogs then. Let's see them :) You clearly didn't understand the purpose or the content of this video and David has trained thousands of amazing, well balanced dogs. I don't assume you can say the same. That's alright though, because you can say whatever you want from behind your keyboard, without being held accountable to prove your words, because were it your dogs compared to his, yours would pale in comparison, no doubt.

    You can certainly see the balance. I prefer that in a personal protection dog. Thank you David for sending the link to this video. I love how you break down the terminology. Balanced drives versus military dog training versus the sporting dog. Thank you.

    Very nice demo -- the barks and behavior are entirely different. Nice dog if you're looking for that balance for your specific discipline. I bet you could ask these guys to set you up with a puppy with more defense or less defense and still have great prey drive for training. She's definitely a fighter (which is great, if you need it).

    That's the point. Most people cannot see, do not know, and do not understand the difference between prey and defense drive. So, it's not surprising that you do not see the difference. it is subtle. She is very young. Mostly what this super nice Prufenpuden pup has is "Fighting Drive" in spades. She likes to fight and is capable of seeing the man as prey at a very, very young age. But, there is defense drive there and you can HEAR it if you listen. Thanks for watching.

      It seems to me that with prey drive the barks are more high pitched and playful. While the protection drive is more deep and gutteral.
      I noticed the same with my dog. If I hear a high pitched bark I know she's playing with someone/something. If I hear a deep bark it's always directed at a perceived threat. I'm not a trainer but I guess playing and instrument kinda made my ears more sensitive, I guess.

    Question: Before I've only heard that people work puppies on prey till they're ready for defense, and also that fight drive comes from experience (a shift in mindset).
    But this pup here really seems to be very serious about what she is doing.
    At what age does the defense and fight drive develop, manifest and show?

    David Harris,how long is your program for a protection dog training,does that include obedience as well.do your clients get to participate so they can have that connection with Thier dog,and what would the cost be!!!!!
    I'm very interested in having y'all train my 12 week old Dutch Shepard.Im good at basic obedience,ive owned many catahoula leapord cur's,very smart,stubborn and energetic breed.With very good outcomes.They were working dogs on my families farm,cattle dogs as well amazing hog dogs.Personal companions,natureally guard dogs,and very protective.
    My new pup is extraordinarily smart.Still,i need professional trying,im an amateur and know it.Love the things you say,your interactions,and your overall outcome.

    Very nice dog. I have a twelve month female that look identical. The light sable around the neck. However I have a comment to make. I have been involved with dogs for over 50 years and have owned a couple of outstanding protection dogs, real protection. I have been training protection dogs for many decades. It is my opinion that the pup is far too young to work it in defense, especially with muzzle. Although the pup performs well there are a couple of vocalizations that to me indicate stress and

      Alex Ribeno You do realize that his is not a TRAINING LESSON, but rather produced for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES right???? No one is defensing this dog. I appreciate you watching the video, now watch it again and listen to the purpose of the video as stated in the beginning of the video. Also, you can see continuing video of this dog up to 20 months on this channel. Bean von Prufenpuden Perhaps by watching her later video you will see that we know what we are doing and all is well. • @protectiondogsalesPDS

      No, but you can be careful not to encourage it. Keep your training light. Stay away from heavy whip action and just have fun. No need to push him. He doesn’t need it.

    • @protectiondogsalesPDS
      @protectiondogsalesPDS  7 лет назад

      The super young dogs are very high drive. They do not know to "Out" yet. Grabbing their flank just distracts them long enough to get the tug back. Soon enough they learn to let go. But the dog in this video did not know an out yet. That comes a bit later.

    Why do they have poor grips in defense drive?

    • @protectiondogsalesPDS
      @protectiondogsalesPDS  Год назад +1

      Poor is relative. Different jobs require different grips. But, "IF" a dog is coming into protection drive based in "fear for his life" then he wants to keep distance. Watch a wolf attack a elk. They rarely rush in and get a full grip. That is to dangerous and there is no vet waiting by to patch them up. It's life or death. IF the dog thinks he could get injured from rushing in, then they will hold back, rush in, nip, jump back, rush in. It's to slow to release a full grip. So, they take shallow grips with their front teeth. Hope that helps.
