- I was invited to cover this song by my band's (@Parazitmx) drummer.
I did think about it, being one of the most known/overplayed songs by RHCP. Still, it comes from my favorite album from them so here I am. That being said, this is a simple song... but it takes a lot of focus and right hand control to lock in and nail it...

Not one of Flea's toughest bass lines. No crazy slap pyrotechnics. This groove is so great it doesn't need anything else.
It is funny there is a video in which the producer asks Flea to hold back, and don't overcomplicate this riff. So maybe it wasn't on him this didn't go all crazy.

You know, the complexity on this one lies on keeping the attitude, the groove locked and while keeping it simple. Ya his song requires focus to make it sound right. 🤘🏻
@@andraskarajos It's a documentary called "Funky Munks". It's covers the making of Blood Sugar Sex Magik and has tons of great footage of some of their recording takes as well as their lives in the mansion they were recording in.
@@andraskarajos You would be correct! Rick Ruben (producer) gets him to hold back and keep the line simple. Flea does add in little fills when it's played live, but since he's not bound by anything else but the main riff he can throw whatever he wants in there.

I've played this track the finger I use for the slide actually started bleeding from constantly sliding up and down the board. If I heard this without watching you play, I swear it would be Flea.

@@kellogc it is basic theory wise, but yes you nailed it with that comment. Hitting those slides and getting the right note at each fret takes a lot of practice, but it's a fun track to play. Blood Sugar Sex Magic is one of those albums you have to learn start to finish. Sir Pysco and Apache Rose are great tracks.

I'm wondering how the MK1 balances for you when sitting /standing? I test drove a MK2 once and found it very hard to balance on my knee when playing seated. How's the MK1 in that regard? Thanks!!

What the strings do you use? Sounds good! How often do you change strings?
Thanks. I use DR Hi beams. It depends, if I’m touring I may change from every week to every month. For basses I keep in my studio it may even be 6 months to a little over a year depending in how much use they get.
