"I am Iron Born." Reek answered, lying. The boy he'd been before had been Iron Born, true enough, but Reek had come into this world in the dungeons of the Dreadfort.
Such a cool name, the dreadfort! Lives up too its name as well

@6starFenrir I agree. What a scary sounding place!

Just when I thought Joffrey was a monster...
Ramsey made Joffery look like a Boy's Scout
He was, but Joffrey could be placated, flattered, and distracted. Ramsey was single-minded, methodical, and devious, like his father, but somehow even more vicious.
Joffrey was just a spoiled brat who never heard the word "no". Ramsey on the other hand was a pure sadist and he relished in inflicting pain.
@@feonor26 But so did Joffrey..
Joffrey certainly wasn't as Deranged as Ramsey, and might have had a chance if his mother wasn't Cersei, but alas that is not what transpired.
For real
The first “Reek” chapter was such an “oh god” moment for me in thrones. For those who don’t know Martin titles each chapter after the character whose POV you are reading from. So the first time “Reek” came up you were meant to assume it was a brand new character, until you get into it. And slowly as he describes the hell he’s been through you realize it’s Theon .. was a terrifying moment in the books and some awesome writing.
After reading the Cersei chapters I felt like I needed a bath... but after reading the Reek chapters I felt like I needed therapy
Same! You've heard about the torture, and haven't had any Theon chapters in awhile, and then you turn the page... and your stomach just drops.

What he has turned into is an insult to the Ironborn's belief that "what is dead may never die but rises again, harder and stronger".
Theon died in Winterfell. And he will never rise again, physically and mentally
maybe his eggplant will not rise again, but the rest is not impossible
Where we're left at in the story, he's doing alot better mentally. Physically he'll never be what he was, but he'll be better than reek.
He hasn't been drowned. Could turn things around.
As theons dad told him when he went back and before he captured winterfell, theon was already a disgrace for an iron born and then he defied his dad by cowardly seizing an empty cirt. Why his dad wouldn't reinforce him when he got captured by Bolton.
Reminds me of Griffith when convinces himself even after being mutilated beyond recovery that he rise again only to have his indomitable resolve shattered moments later as he’s flung from the carriage and his arm is broken and hanging vertically as he lifts it
Theon is the type of character that at first you think you would love nothing more than for him to suffer but then you get to the part in the book where you figure out that Reek IS Theon and all of a sudden you feel such sympathy and wish he'd never suffered this much
Nah, I was laughing. Theon earned it

Im not a fan of what Theon does in the books (or the show for that matter) but what he went thru in both is just inhuman. And while alot of people who I’ve discussed about the character say he deserves it for what he did to Winterfell and House Stark, I think he got a worse punishment than what I believe Ramsay will eventually get in the books
Euron better get his hands on Ramsay or it ain’t worth it
He literally had two innocent children murdered

@@jordanford9320 fair enough. But my theory still holds that Theon will get a worse fate than Ramsay is gonna get
Theon’s story in the books is the saddest for me. He shamefully betrayed the Stark’s and his own conscience. Living as Reek is worse than dying with the Stark’s would have been. But there is some hope of redemption at the end. I’m nervous that Ramsay will catch him again.
Not to mention falsely believing he would be welcomed back in the iron isles as a prince and basically being dismissed... when he betrayed the Starks to earn their respect. His story line is ridiculous.
@@laurabishop7588 Theon was essentially just a boy wanting to earn the love of his father whom he hasn't seen in over a decade. He tried to fit in with the iron born by being ruthless and betrayed the Stark.
@@SCL111 Tellimg in itself, because he wasn't as ruthless as he pretended to be. He took Winterfell, but let Bran and Rickon live. He really was a BOY. It explains so much about his mentality.
I hated Theon when he betrayed Rob but during the torture through Ramsey I just felt sorry for him😭
It isn't just hinted. On Ramsay's wedding night, Theon was made to do more than just watch.
Yeah, he was made to "prepare" Jeyne (Or Arya)
I thought that moment was to also bring up that Ramsay flayed and then cut off his penis too.
Theon never contemplates the loss of that in any other moment than that one
That's what time with a Bolton will do to someone.
He can use a bow. He kept the bow fingers on his main hand. That's why people think Theon will kill Ramsey with a bow
Theon is one of the best written characters in asoiaf. People just start hating him after he betrays Robb and decides to try being awful at Winterfell, without trying to understand him and why he decided to act like that. As a reader is simple to just sit down and judge him, but as a persom who lives in that world, grew up with the Stark knowing that he would have never been one of them and also never been a real Greyjoy, is not to simple to take the right decision. Theon desperately wanted a place in that world, and people to call family. He thought that there was still a chance to gain his father approval, and showing hinself worthy of the name Greyjoy. And he betrayed Robb for this, repeating himself he always was a prisoner, a hostage for the Stark. When he realized what he had done it was too late, and the punishment he suffered because of his actions is atrocious.
And just before all this mess, Theon really considered to give up on Winterfell and wear black...
All he had to do was swallow his pride and ride with his men and Asha back to Deepwood Motte, as she told him.
Theon was a confused kid who was split between trying to make his father proud and loving the Stark’s for being like a family to him. He regretted what he did to winterfell. He may not have been a great guy but he didn’t deserve any of this
Agree❤ I miss my sweet Iron Prince
To feel such empathy for a fictional character, I truly empathize with anyone that has truly been in Theon’s position irl. Mind, spirit and body fractured and broken. So much time taken. Here is a fate worse than death.
Reading Theon's ADWD chapters made me sick. So dark but so well written
Was the best parts of the book
He can still use a bow and hood a dagger. It’s stated in the books that Ramsey did this intentionally.
Theon would suffer for years until Babba Yaga would come to finish him off....
Bruh
Just imagine Alfie Allen looks like the Theon in the books
Medieval torture was brutal man. Being implied while alive and left to slide down a pole for days sounds like hell
theon's story is one of the most traumatizing part of the series.
Ramsey got his just due in the end… except for the fact that his death was far too quick. Theon was no Angel, but what Ramsey did was unspeakable
In the books, he’s still doing just fine unfortunately. The only person who was ready to stand up to him was Jon and then the Night Watch killed him for it

@@tonshmarBeheadings are tame. Theon in the books went through something so horrible no program would ever be allowed to show it. Also, here’s part of Theon’s thoughts when a woman sits down in front of him during a feast and is annoying him:
“He wanted to hit her, to smash that mocking smile off her face. He wanted to kiss her, to fuck her right there on the table and make her cry his name. It was actually a torture technique that the communists in the Soviet Union used to do. The months of stress and torture on your body bleaches your hair. After months of starving and slowly wasting away to the point of being unrecognizable or even corpselike, the torturers would drag you to a mirror so you can see just how you've fallen as a final method of breaking your spirit completely.

The Theon stuff is just sick.
Reminds me of Aerys in Duskendale
With Theon with Rob Stark instead of the Greyjoys and eventually the Bolton's, Rob could've easily defeated the Lannisters, made peace with Stannis, and made a deal with the Tyrells. His betrayal lead to so much worse for all of king's landing and westeros. He finally had power, real power and respect from the starks and he used it to break House Stark and make everyone's life on the continent worse for it. That being said, he should've been executed instead of this treatment.
I don't think Robb would have been able to make peace with Stannis unless Robb bent the knee and swore fealty to Stannis. Because the Mannis is just uncompromising in his decisions. It's his way or no way at all.
