      Hi Paul! Currently, I don't have any online private classes, although that is something I'm working toward.

    What type of paper are you painting on that allows you to erase? I painted my sphere on plain copy paper and the eraser was ineffective

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  11 месяцев назад

      The paper I was using in this particular video was a premium weight White Sulphite Drawing Paper (I think it's about 90-pound paper if I remember correctly). Having said that, I have airbrushed and erased on plain white copy paper too. It can be done, but caution is needed because it's very easy to erase through the lightweight paper (especially with an electric eraser). The real key to using subtractive techniques with your airbrush painting comes down to what paint you're using and the time frame between spraying the paint and attempting to erase said paint.
      I'll touch on the paint topic first. I use Createx Colors Paint (both their Wicked Brand and their Illustration Brand) pretty much exclusively. Both will erase; however, the Illustration line of paint is far easier to erase (they were actually designed for use with subtractive techniques) compared to the Wicked line. I have also used Com-Art paint in the past with success using erasing techniques. So, those are the only two specific paint brands I have experience with erasing currently. I do have some No-Name and Chroma Air Brand paint from Spray Gunner I plan to try, but I haven't had the time to play with either of those yet.
      The time frame between spraying and erasing also factors into the equation for success. Although the Illustration line of Createx colors was specifically designed for use with erasing techniques, the longer the paint has time to fully cure, the harder it becomes to erase. Erasing immediately after spraying the color is the easiest time to erase the paint, it also tends to leave a harsh dividing line behind because it's very easy to completely erase the color that was just sprayed. Waiting ten to fifteen minutes allows you to softly erase the paint which results in a softer blend between the erased color and the color that wasn't erased. After about thirty minutes the paint becomes more difficult to remove. The surface you're working on and the type of eraser you're using will also factor into the results achieved.
      So, it will likely require some more practice on your end using whatever surface, paint and eraser(s) you have to find what yields the best results, but I hope that information helps.

    What easel do you use?

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  2 года назад

      Hi Robert! Unfortunately, I have no idea. I've had that easel for around twenty years now. I don't remember where I got it or what brand it is. There are no markings on it anywhere that I can see either. I think I bought it at a Hobby Lobby, but I'm not certain on that. It's really nothing special as far as easel's are concerned. It is made out of metal as opposed to wood, but the only thing that makes it unique is the fact that I bolted a large piece of MDF board to it as a backboard. Other than that, it is a simple easel.

    Why not paint the entire ball blue and then use white for the light reflections? That seems like a lot less work.

    • @wickedartstudio
      @wickedartstudio  11 месяцев назад

      This exercise is meant to be simple because it uses a single color. This is the beginning of a series of exercises I developed that progressively get more complex. You can absolutely use white paint for the highlights if you choose to do so; however, I will argue whether that method requires less work or not for a beginner. The user would be required to mix another color of paint, clean the brush between color changes, deal with more overspray issues and depending on the original color used, deal with a potential color shift.
