To all new viewers: This video will be remade in the coming months along with a few others, covering everything that was in this video as well as a lot more content that was looked over / discovered since. Stay tuned for it!
Fun Fact: You actually CAN Drift in the Preview Build! It's stupidly precise and requires a certain amount of speed but you have to hold down-right or down-left! They hadn't mapped the triggers for Daytime yet in that build and the B button drift wasn't implemented so you have to use the analog! You can also drift like that in the final if I remember correctly but it's still stupidly precise.
@@sandudelcea6707 hahaha, yeah, for a lot of people they use the triggers because its second nature cuz that's usually the drift buttons in arcade racing games, but i could see how players used to platforming games would not think to do that
I remember looking at the concept art in sonic unleashed (wii version) and seeing the concept art for the werehog form. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that he was originally going to look more yeti or Bigfoot-like than wolf
16:48 Actually, Sparkle is the name of Unleashed's particle effect editor and Inspire is the name of the tool Sonic Team used to make in-game cutscenes.
@@Cifesk Yeah it's a little weird which might be why they added drifting on B/Circle and the triggers in the final game. Seems as though a lot of the levels were designed around it. It forces you to slow down before drifting which makes overshooting like in that one section of Skyscraper Scamper harder.
@@inedthedead2994 You can actually perform the drift like that too even in the final game, I did it by accident in Mazuri day act 1 and found out you can actually drift like that.
6:45 My mom printed that image of Super Sonic years ago as a poster. I only just learned of its true origins. But I always assumed it was a early version screenshot.
Okay first of all this game holds up so much in today's time, just play it on a Xbox Series X if you have one. The game only now plays at 60fps and it looks so good! Second of all I googled how long it took them to make the game and it was 1.5 years. HOW? This is actually a good game for 3D Sonic
Very nice video! Can't believe I'm still learning things about my favorite Sonic game! As others have mentioned, you can drift in the preview build, by quickly tapping the L stick down, and then turning when boosting. But this option is still available to drift in the finished game along with B and steer, and RT/LT + steer. Crazy how the game has 3 options for you to drift with.
At 13:58 at the Stage Select, the very first line with the japanese characters says: Sonic World Adventure I can read Katakana so I thought this might be interesting for some. Might have been an early name for the game
Sonic Unleashed was a game that I wasn't able to beat until I got a memory card for my PS2. And I still remember seeing the trailer for the game while watching TV early on a Saturday morning back in 2007, ahh how time flies lol
Going through those Easter eggs again brought back memories from when I was making a video on them, also Reddick said it’s most likely a copyright issue with the other writer.
26:02 - This is inaccurate. Sonic Generations while getting a 4K boost, Sonic Unleashed did not. The only boost Unleashed gets on Series X/S is 60 FPS and HDR.
Its very interesting, to me at least lol, that the werehog (and maps relating to that form) was called "evil", maybe its because initially the idea was that Sanic was corrupted by Eggman? Maybe they wanted Sonic's emotional changes to be more severe/turned more feral when in werehog form, or for him to be more edgy at least in the werehog form, but they didn't do that cuz of how badly Shadow's game was recieved? I dunno. I also feel like a lot of things about the werehog were just due to Sega still wanting to use the other characters, like Knuckles or Shadow, and then being told by fans "no, don't make them playable!", so they just had their cake and ate it, too, by just turning Sonic into a mixture of Knuckles and Shadow for a bit, and just had it so he doesn't do that anymore in the later games; having it be a one-off thing was a good choice for sure.
25:50 About Sonic Unleashed on Xbox Series, Digital Foundry reviewed the back-compat version and claimed that it retains its original ~800x720 resolution. Did Sega update it run at 4K since then, or was this just a simple oversight in the script?
This video is so cool, thank you for showing me things about my favorite game I’ve never known before, because obviously cybershell was never gonna do it
I don’t think the sealed off areas are cut content. They were likely always planned as DLC which was common in that era of leaving the areas on disk and finishing it to be released as paid dlc.
i dunno, I always felt like it was because the entire map was causing fatigue to play-testers, so they decided to shorten a lot of the maps and make those parts into DLC. They didn't want the game to feel like it was just night stages.
Although it says that "this video is for people who are too lazy to do the research themselves" i like watching these videos while doing things like studying. great video!
There's actually some more cut content you missed. Though the HD Version is expected, the Beta Area outside of the Mission for Skyscraper Scamper has an unused pole model. I haven't looked much into it, but maybe I will someday. The PS2 and Wii Versions though is where the majority of the stuff is as there are cut voice clips for Chip. Although most of it is simply tutorial and "unsurprising" elements that are used throughout the final game, there is a couple that are interesting. One explains that the player would've had to have enough speed to go across the water. The "run" part might suggest that the player would've had to boost across the water like in the HD Version of the game. However, even with the slowest speed, he just sorta grinds on it. The second one is where Chip keeps bothering Sonic to show him (telling the player to use) a new move the player has learned during the upgrading system. I think it was scrapped due to how annoying that was, so maybe it was a good thing. And there's also cut voice clips for the Werehog for the boss battle quotes meant for the result screen. Although they are used in the HD Version, the PS2/Wii doesn't. (It's weird as the Daytime boss battles use these) Though some have been made available on the Sonic News Network (Link below for the page of that game's beta elements), they can be accessed either with the Sounds Resource or (what I find convenient) putting the PS2 Version of the game into a disc drive on a Computer/Laptop. Sonic Unleashed Beta Elements (PS2/Wii) Link: sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_Unleashed_(Wii/PlayStation_2)/Beta_elements I know this is a long comment, but I hope you find this more interesting to be finding more cut content being found for this game.
@@alanashy3514 I have yet to see a video that talks about it. The Sonic Fandom is the only source right now until someone talks about it on the Internet.
