When she says Dada was not perturbed / disturbed in any way, when he did not get any award for his music of Guide, I feel Dada was a 'Stithapragyan' as it is described in Bhagavadgeetha - not disturbed by either Sukh or Dukh- that is a real spirit of a Yogi !

@@lalwanimoti Indeed! Those were really golden days when such legends were being made. My favorite sctress is Waheeda Rehman ji and favourite Musician S. D. Burman da. @anup kanti Das ji, No, SDBurman did not get the award. He was asked to pay money which he refused. It was against his principles to pay bribe. @Ashish Mudgal, Besides Guide and Aradhana, Burman Dada composed excellent music for Devdas, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Meri Surat Teri Aankhen, Abhimaan and several other films.
whenever i do watch this episode of award, it hurts me each and every time, of course sachin karta belongs to the different world which beyond these materialistic ambitions, but hurts me cause how nonsense powerful group attached with cultural world, how more political less cultural sector hijack events from music lover people! salute waheeda ji, thanks a lot moti lalwani ji for great effort, and respectful shraddhanjali to sachindeb burman, a real music saint of our era!
All done by Master manipulators Shankar-Jaikishan. Earlier they did it with Mughal-e-Azam. Got the award for Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai. The Modus Operandi was to buy filmfare award nomination forms and get it filled by hired fans. This time, they hyped Suraj with Baharon Phool Barsao, got Rafi Saab to sing at various public functions to give it high visibility. Ironically, Laxmikant-Pyarelal used the same strategy to win for Dosti, when Sangam was in the fray! scroll.in/reel/883147/how-sd-burman-missed-out-on-a-filmfare-award-for-his-greatest-soundtrack-guide
Is this her home? You should have probably asked her opinion of the song Phoolo ke rang se...Appreciate the interview and as usual very nice to hear from Waheeda ji. I too want to speak to her one day. Such a Legend...
Can't believe that SD was not awarded Filmfare for Guide. Either the selectors were a bunch of damn idiots or it was politicized in nasty way. The film was packed with a lot of his melodious songs which was the main reason for its success.
@Krishnendu Dey, The awards were sold by middle men, and bought by music directors. Musicians who played for Dada in Guide have told me that they were sure that Guide will get the award, as no other film music was anywhere near Guide's music. Dada was composed telling his musicians that their award was public appreciation which they got in plenty. Thanks for comments.
The song from Bambai Ka Babu (1960)- 'Dekhne me bhola hai'- which Dada composed and she is talking about is partly copied from a song in her debut movie (Telugu) 'Rojulu Marayi' which came in 1955. This shows that Dada was aware of songs from south ! As early as 1949 in Shabnam, Dada has used Shamshad Begum's voice to sing part of a Tamil song !
Sribhai, I would not call it copy. inspired is the right word. After all Dada asked her to sing Telugu song from her earlier film, telling her that he is going to create a Hindi song based on the tune.
+Moti Lalwani I have said 'partly copied' and I stick to that. The mukhda is definitely taken from that song which came in 1955. The fact that he asked her to sing that song shows that he was already aware of that song. Perhaps Dada was trying to unite South India and Punjab through that song !
