I've just been reminded of this track, as they just played it on 6Music - I couldn't believe my ears! I pre ordered this on vinyl when it first came out, but I never got to pick it up myself, as my best mate Jon (cheeky git) found out I'd ordered it and actually went to the record store and picked it up for himself, so despite him playing it for me a parties, I never did get it back.. It's still an epic track! Jon's still one of my best mates, so good times!
oh yes! I was in uk in 1997 and because of Mary-Ann Hobbs' radio show I bought this one (and Overseer "Hit the tarmac EP). Music that still kicks ass, if you ask me....
And still playing now, years later on a Norfolk campsite complete with hot choc and ginger cake. Still banging in Covid times , thanks for posting, musical madness keeping me sane,...Car 87! Where are ya???
I remember hearing this live in Atlanta GA at club Phenomena in about 98 or 99 can't remember the exact year. (Imagine that) anyway. Shit blew the fucking club apart. Aphrodite is a Jungle LEGEND. Watch this brother rip!!!!
It makes me swell with pride know that our music touched you in the states at that time.. What always made afrodite and mickey finn the shit ws the hip hop samples. I had the privilege to play with Mickey back in 95.. When jungle ws a real kick in the ass.. Still in grimey clubs sweat pouring off the wall and wed come out to day light.. Peace ✌🏽
Remember going to Excalibur in Gillingham back in 96-97 the place went off when this, badass, lighter, Super Sharpe Shooter and Junglist were dropped every Saturday
I still drop this like a ton of bricks on the young uns that never heard it back in our days when they're privileged enough to come party at my place. Gotta keep the trooper numbers up for the DnB massive.
@@anthonybernardi4929 nice to have 2 copies and drop this into badass. Love the start of it and the drop into that bass. Never fails to make them bounce
@@anthonybernardi4929 play around and get your timing right on cue so this bass rolls in as badass drops out. It's a great sound. I've always enjoyed mixing this way and was always the guy to buy 2 copies of the bangers just to A-B the decks.
Both this and Bad Ass are available on this compilation, although they are shorter versions: itunes.apple.com/gb/album/jungle-is-massive-ministry-of-sound/1262484420
Ya didnt they make ssx have reactive music or was that a sequel? I can remember the music would change to some effect when you jumped a ramp there would be some filter added to the track?
hi Urban Takeover, please, i'm trying to id a huge jump up tune Mickey Finn cained around '97 with the classic sample Once again, start again fall down bad boy....is it one of yours? Thanks!
Hi I think the track your looking for is this one www.discogs.com/Wildchild-Bad-Boy-Urban-Takeover-Mix/release/6692140 Wildchild Badboy Urban Takeover mix, it looks like it was only put out as a dubplate.
Hi, cheers for your reply, appreciate it! Yeah thats the right tune, I happened to remember hearing it at Energy 97 and id'd it from an accompanying tracklist, but many thanks anyway!
When every single Aphrodite and Mickey Finn tune sounded identical.. the first ever algorhythmic DnB.. my hiphop roots made me love the samples and breakdowns, but these tunes would always build up to disappointment. That said, compared to "jump up" these days (Macky Gee, Original Sin, Taxman and all that clown-step garbage), these boys sound remarkable. Big up original jump up sounds, and big up the original crew

Flashbacks to Mary-ann Hobbs' Breezeblock show on BBC Radio One. She played this loads.

"with a preponderance of bass" :)
The B side to Badass😁 It's a dope tune to have as a b side. Could easy have been an a side track😎
Absolute tune, dat intro 🙌
I just seen Ed Rush and Optical in Montreal last night. Next im praying Aphrodite and Micky Finn come to Montreal. Thatd be an awesome night 🎉❤
Still play this regularly. My 12" says 1996 on the back cover though
I have this on vinyl too. If I remember, this was released at the end of 1996, not 1997.
Ye 96
Didn't it have a few pressings. I got a replacement in 97 and it's got 97 on it. ?. Just saying.
Originally made in 1996.
It was put out on promo December 96, and officially released Jan 97.
What a tune to be the first on the Urban Takeover label...big up!
Remember going to Excalibur in Gillingham back in 96-97 the place went off when this, badass, lighter, Super Sharpe Shooter and Junglist were dropped every Saturday
those were the days
Yea you know that and the chopper tune, that was my time also 96.97 walking over the lines fuck I'm 38 now
Both these tracks on this vinyl were good enough to have both been A-sides.
Featured on BBC Guitar, Drum and Bass Series 1: 2. On Bass... Tina Weymouth

Whoever remembers this song from SSX (2000)? If only this was on iTunes...
I just searched it up after looking through the SSX 2000 credits. Never figured it was a real song.

Lindsay Hands well, I meant the U.S. one... this one is only in the U.K.... Region lock sucks.

People still produce clownstep?!?! I thought that garbage died out by the end of 2009.
