Thank you for great teaching....sorry, but I really need to know and understand. These great men of faith believed in the promises of God they'd been given. God has promised me so much in His word, but no specific promises about my life to have faith in. I trust in God and pray I have faith to trust Him every day, but no specific faith. Hi Sue, Every Christian starts with the general promises of God. Promises for peace that passes understanding, for wisdom, for guidance, for provision. If God has something for us beyond those generalized promises, then that's great. Don't discount the fact that sometimes the Holy Spirit very gently and almost imperceptibly, leads us this way or that. I hope that this helps.
I once thought that Abraham’s faith was that God was going to provide the sacrifice because that’s what he told Isaac. Until I read Hebrews and saw that he believed God would raise Isaac from the dead. Because he trusted in that promise that he’d be the father of many nations.
