If you’re asking will it work then the answer is yes…. The reason it’s not technically legal is because under the legislation for PMR446 the radio must be limited to 0.5 watts and have a fixed antenna. The legislation is needed for a couple of reasons. 1: power settings are because the assumption is that PMR users are not licensed and don’t have the knowledge to operate safely at higher power levels. It also prevents users causing interference on other frequencies. 2: Tight regulation and quality control keep it fun for everyone… apparently 😂 The idea with PMR is that out of the box it has fixed channels and can’t be altered. There’s no confusion and no training/licensing needed. A “legal” PMR446 radio can literally be used by a child.
I have one of these. It is quite easy to program using Chirp, under the UV17 pro model. I had to manually program the air and frequencies though because Chirp will not let you save them. My question is have you been able to successfully name the saved channels in your handset?
Yes, I use the UV5RH CPS from the Miklor site. It has its own program now and very easy to use. It doesn’t have the functionality of chirp, but for saving and naming frequencies and repeaters etc it does the job.
@@M7EUP my issue is I only have a Mac and the Miklor software is windows only. I’ll see if I can borrow a PC off someone to sort this. Thanks for your help.
At this moment in time is not. However, as we see from the video the radio is capable of it so it’s just a case of waiting for a modified file update to be created.
@@alexheffernan9085 I think you’ve slightly misunderstood. The radios are supposed to be limited to only being able to transmit on the frequencies that are stated at the beginning of this video. These parameters are software locked at the factory as part of the software flash. Before you say it you cannot re-flash these radios. In regard to AM airband receive, this is hardware defined. There are two circuit boards, with AM airband and without. Is this one labelled as BF-5RH on front of radio ? If so it's the Multi-Band version. Here's a good explanation from Big Will. ruclips.net/video/KGSGcPSj3Jc/видео.htmlsi=UUHTs0iBIt_nxK1w
Yes it is Richard. However if you see my most recent video (UV-5RH unlocked) you’ll see that both the multiband and Triband seem to be being supplied by one particular manufacturer with all Triband, FM Commercial and AM airband receive.
You can happily listen to the AM airband with the Multiband Version 1 model of this radio. As for listening to emergency services etc that would depend on the country you live in and the modes of transmission used. Most services are now digital so you would be unlikely be able to listen with a basic FM Baofeng.
You’ll find a lot of new Baofeng radios being released with this form factor. It seems to be a new thing for them. But they’re definitely the real deal.
I clearly state the regulations regarding PMR use during the tests. It’s very clear. Also note the use of a dummy load and the workshop is steel lined creating a faraday cage around the test area.

Hallo. First THX for your Video. But It does not work on mine. I got the JucJet UV-5RH from Amazon, which must be simular or the same as the Baofeng Radio. The Radio is only able to use 144-148 / 200-260 (only rx)/ 430-440 and 350-390 (only rx): So I cant find any Hack or Firmware to use the PMR (446.00625-446.09375) or here in Germany the Freenet Frequencys (149.0250-149.1125). Is there any chance to unlock them? THX Dave
Unfortunately not. It seems that Baofeng hard write the firmware during manufacture and there is no way of updating or altering this. Personally I no longer support or review Baofeng because they have been left behind in the market now by companies like Quansheng and TidRadio

How to unlock the radio, baofeng uv5rh pro max version? Do you hold the 4 buttons and twist the power? Then it should say Factory.
At the moment there is no “unlock” sequence that we are aware of.
if there is no unlock sequence, then how does the radio transmit? Is it locked to the low transmit power?

I’m using the UV5R with the same frequency range, how could I extend, eventually save the PMR frequencies manually?
You’ll need to either save the frequencies manually in the radio or use a programming software like chirp or CAS.
If your radio is “hard locked” to 430-440 MHz it may not be possible.
