I had seen 'Shop Around the Corner', but really fell in love with her in ' The Good Fairy'. She was so wonderfully funny and sweetly innocent in that one. I can't wait to watch more of her enchanting presence. And she co-starred with some of my other favorites: Jimmy Stewart, Herbert Marshall, and Robert Young. I'm sold!
Happy Happy Birthday Margaret Sullavan! What an iincredible actress you were! My favorite film of yours is the 1941 Back Street. I have seen the before version and after version of your film, and they are both awful! Yours is the best version of that story. You were the perfect Ray Smith! That voice and those eyes! Every feeling is in your eyes. You did not overact nor underact the part like some actresses tend to do. You were perfect. Christmas is not Christmas unless The Shop Around The Corner is playing on TV. You and Jimmy Stewart are the perfect couple and that is the perfect Christmas movie. The Mortal Strom, Cry Havoc, Three Comrades and Little Man, What Now? are excellent films because of you. I wish you had made more than 16 films, but am so greatful for the ones you left behind.
Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute to Margaret! She was a wonderful actress. Amazing performances in "THree Comrades" and "The Shop Around The Corner". I am glad you included "So Red The Rose" and "Back Street" too.
She had a tragic ending to her life unfortunately. She was crazy in love with Leland Hayward but he left her for Slim Hawks. She never really got over him.
I only learned of Maggie Sullavan when the prettiest girl in film history was asked who her favorite actress was, and she said Maggie Sullavan. And I said "Who!" (Who was that girl? Louise Brooks.)
@irinagarbo Without you I couldn't have included the clips from "So Red The Rose". Thank you very much for your support and your kind words! Yes, she really was outstanding in "Three Comrades" and "The Shop Around The Corner". And I think she was just as brilliant in "The Mortal Storm", The Good Fairy" and "Back Street". Actually, I think she shone in almost every role she played.
It appears to me that she played many roles with Jimmy Stewart. She was a wonderful actress. I likes her in the "Shop around the corner". I plan to watch other movies by her. Thanks for posting this wonderful tribute. I wonder when she passed away and how old was she?
Thank you for your comment! Margaret Sullavan died of an overdose of barbiturates, which was ruled accidental, on January 1, 1960 at the age of 50. If you haven't seen these movies yet, I can definitely recommend you "The Mortal Storm", "The Good Fairy" and "Three Comrades".
@4MaryAnna Yes, it's from "So Red The Rose". Wow! You have almost all of her movies! I'm impressed!!! I've got 8. I'm sure that took a loooong time to find all the rare ones! Which of her films are your favourites?
Isn't it so ironic that such a beautiful woman was tormented. She died of a barbiturate overdose that only 50 years old. Was married four times and had numerous affairs, posthumously two of her children committed suicide. She was known for her temper it must have been very difficult to be a strong woman and a man's world in the '30s.
@mademoisellemaile It's from "Three Comrades". And no, it's not James Stewart with her, it's Robert Taylor. But Margaret Sullavan insisted that James Stewart should be cast opposite her, but MGM gave the role of Erich Lohkamp to Taylor. As much as I like Robert Taylor, but I think Stewart would have been much better in the role.
Very good and sensitive actress, all the necessary emotion was expressed through her eyes, which would also transform her face.
She was a great actress, thank you:)

Wow, that was lovely. Thank you, for sharing this. The Shop Around the Corner is one of my favorites. It gets playing time every Christmas.

Very nice montage. Made me cry. Thank you.
Me too!

Just saw Next time we love yesterday! Loved it.
Thank you very much. Scenes very well chosen, and the music is so lovely
Just watched Cry Havoc and only yesterday. Would love to see an update that includes both!
My first film of Margaret's was the sentimental weepie, "No Sad Songs for Me". Her acting style always enamored me.
Really lovely work!
Beautiful video! I personally love her with Robert Taylor!
Beautiful.
A fitting tribute a wonderful actress! ¬ Janet Thompson Deaver
+Morgan le Fay Thank you, Janet! I'm glad you enjoyed my video. She was a unique woman and an immensely talented actress.

Lauren Bacall said that Margaret Sullivan and Bette Davis were two of her favorite actresses. What is the name of the new book about her.

She was 50 when she died in early 1960. Unfortunately she had a very sad, even tragic, life.
Dennis Gilman I read about it. So sadX I wonder what would’ve happened if she had decided to marry jimmy and be with him

She was smokin hot
Hot is a modern construct. True word is beauty.
Gosh, I'm not familiar with her work. She looks and sounds fantastic.

I feel like they were a match. Really wish they had got married. They simply oozed chemistry
