“ABA hasn’t taken a round but insists their top tier”. Just like me, smartest kid in the class.
"Early on, the kids only want 2 things from a button and it's fucking disgusting: Range and Damage"
Me, a Nago main: "That's not how it works?"
Speed is for weaklings who need to land more than one combo to kill their opponent.
@@TempuraFriedJoystick How dare you, I wanna press as many buttons as possible to feel like I'm really in that ass
“everyone blocks now” they’re officially better than me
I wanted to like this comment, but it's sitting at 69 likes, so I cannot change it. I'm sure you understand.
I'm resonating so hard right now.
If I ever become a teacher someday, I will definitely introduce Guilty Gear into the curriculum. Kids might ask when they'll ever use GG knowledge in real life, but they just aren't old enough to know that you need to be able to do your times tables in your head and you also need to be able to handle I-No's high low mix. These are core life skills!
It even has the always pick C equivalent with Kliff's parry.
It'll work most of the time! :)
Please don't teach them how to handle Ino's low high mix ups.
DONT TELL THEM THE I-NO MIX
Tbf they wont use the knowledge untill they get into logic in college, Fuzzy are just fuzzy logical statements.
As an I-No player, I also need to learn to handle the mix. Last mirror match I had was rough.
The friend who keeps picking new characters is actually just a persona protagonist.
i knew it was Yu! xD
One of the most satisfying fighting game experiences I've had was playing soul calibur 3 with a friend. One of their roommate's friends came in and made some comment about fighting games being just button mashers and bet he could beat us just by mashing harder. We played, he started mashing, and I guard impacted everything he did and poked him off the stage every round. Honestly I wasn't any good at the game, but good enough to force someone to admit mashing doesn't work was good enough for me!
Reading this comment puts a smile on my face.
Wow that's so cool.
Literally the best feeling you can have: finding a simple and repeatable tactic that FORCES your opponent to adjust and actually play the game. Can only ever result in fun, because
A) They actually figure out a solution and then its on YOU to get around that solution. Congratulations, you're playing fighting games
or
B) They lose their goddamn minds. Almost more fun.
Mashing in Soul Calibur in particular is hilariously punishing unless you're playing a character who's friendly towards it, like Maxi or even Voldo for the weird factor.
You _will_ get GI'd, thrown, Rung Out or just Oki'd for literally days.
Every person who doesn't play fighting games has this perception that its all luck and mashing 😂
I just wish the thumbnail showed the evolutionary process going in reverse from Man to Sol
Nothing quite like sajam literally rolling his face on his controller to make a point
👆
I love the comparison to people thinking that mashing like it’s DMC will get them far because mashing in DMC especially DMC3 is a fast track to being hit with “EASY MODE UNLOCKED”
Vergil spamming Parry in DMC3 during every combo I perform and then hitting me while I'm stunned, not knowing I have to dodge or Royal Guard:
“Your not worthy as my opponent”
*easy mode is now selectable*
@@Mr.Faust3 bro we all know most of us got "Easy mode is now selectable" back on Mission 2
@@KoylTrane Got mine on mission 1, 5 years later i went in and only got it on Mission 13, just so i could hide my shame
@@KoylTrane Standing in the back mashing guns against Cerberus. I didn't KNOW how to be stylish back then!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
AYEEEE THE 6TH GRADE UPDATEEEEESS
3:19 Even DMC understand the importance of defend, Dodge Trick and Royal Guard give you huge style points and perfect RG can kill a boss instantly
Mashing also absolutely gets you smoked the moment an enemy has guard points or just any way to stand in the face of your blade....
Instead you spam Stinger :P
Chipp is the coolest character in GG+R and REV2 because he's a Rushdown character whose favorite place to stand in neutral is full screen
But you have to use jump install to be good
And eww, ji is gross
ABA Kid isnt giving up on her, ya love to see it
Blocking/defense is the best investment into learning a game at the beginning. Decent defense = longer matches. Longer matches = more good games.
Ah but who wants to do that
"The best offense is a good defense", vice verca.
@@leithaziz2716 why would I need to block it they're dead
no
This has to be the most interesting social experiment in the FGC.
I came to GG from KOF, a game in which I was running or jumping. It took me a long time as a Johnny player (and an occasional Potemkin troll) to realise that sometimes, it's much more beneficial to simply walk forward and slowly bring the enemy into your range without committing. Given how GG is a much more mobile game than KOF, this almost felt counterintuitive.
I want to see a child pick up Slayer and learn the power of Pile Bunker
There will be a Dandy Savior, their time will come.
That'll teach the kids which buttons have not-terrible recovery when thrown out randomly in neutral _real_ quick.
On the point of learning where you want to stand, James Chen has a really good breakdown of this concept using Ryu vs Guile in Super Turbo. There's a lot of interesting nuances that are unintuitive if you've never played before. It's a fun thing for me to learn in a new game.
Just checked out that video and it’s a fantastic watch. It is completely reframing how I think about spacing in fighting games. Thanks for sharing!
Is that his First Attack? That's a *great* series. i may need a re watch. :)
Hey I know this is almost a year old but this sounds really helpful could you please tell me where to find this video? I tried googling but this James Chen dude is prolific and there's a lot to sift through
The where to stand bit has been huge for me in learning Strive. Oddly, the best place to stand for so many Chipp matchups in GGST is not in the range of any of his buttons. It's just outside of theirs because ppl will whiff and no one respects that Chipp can punish what other characters can't.
im still trying to figure out how to apporach with bacon as a millia main. im so used to just fly in and bait out their anti airs that an actual ground game is something i have to learn
@@SashaSlvt i just watched Kazam play several sets vs Baiken. here are my notes:
--after an indecisive scuffle Kazam often retreated right outside Kabari range. Baiken only has linear movement to push that range, so it seems like a good 'reset point' ↪️ to try new approaches.
--Kazam's neutral looked most dominant when they could ⏩️approach⏩️ the Baiken uninterrupted. sometimes they dashed straight in, hitting 2P or one of Millia's kicks. other times they'd dashblock by the edge of Baiken's Slash/Heavy Slash pokes. but _be careful_ not to get pulled 🎣 into Baiken's kick range--the risk/reward there *heavily* favored Baiken.
--Millia could leverage her superior air movement 🦅to 'j.S' a jump-happy Baiken out of the air. Once air dominance was established, Kazam won many neutrals using airdashes & *j.H.* Baiken's grounded anti-airs are below average, so the fear of j.H let Millia whiz around Baiken's head like she's doing a knockdown mixup 🌀.
--Kazam made Millia's 6P look like one of Strive's best counterpokes. it soundly beat IAD, Kabari, f.S/5K, you name it. it seemed best used to defend a position 🤚 & deny careless approaches.
H Disc sometimes appeared when Kazam was looking comfortable, although it sacrificed precious opportunities to push an approach...
@@yourbellboy Thanks for sharing that. i don't know if i want to give Baiken too many Johanzan openings though. i.e. "Baiken's grounded anti airs are below average." Nice to know folk think like that! Y'all do know that's her *good* arm right? xD
Easily applicable to millia as well. Ive never played chill the only thing different from the other characters i play is positioning/prepping oki before the combo ends or letting it drop to reset the guessing game
This guy is training a future generation of plus r killers. One day at a plus r side tourney at evo a school bus will rock up and a bunch of kids with their sticks will get off ready to play with Robo Ky kid killing the competition
Oh shit sajam wrestled? That’s sick!
As a fellow ABA main, I respect that hustle.
I honestly hope to be like this teacher if I ever become one. Might not do GGXX, but some kind of fighting game would be great to do. I know this is mainly about what people think about it with in terms of fighting games, but I honestly think it's great potential for actually teaching. I could maybe explain to them on how being able to slowly learn and improve things over time is how we should learn about stuff in the class and maybe use it as a way to explain that the stuff learned in class may not always be applied all the time in their lives, but can still be important none the less to learn. Idk fully how to completely weave it into a curriculum of learning, but I honestly think it could be a great way to teach lessons to the kids while teaching them about fighters. I just think that it's good to point out how we can use other mediums to help teach lessons to younger people beyond just saying things to them and hoping they roll with it.
Getting into fighting games is like fighting Vergil 1 in DMC3 until you find out you can cheese him by jump canceling the dive kick over and over again
I feel Itsuno's history in fighting games really shows in the Vergil fights, Vergil 3 felt like trying to take a game off that friend you can always take a round off of but never a game or full set.
@@RP-tatari- the dude did used to work on arcade games
I haven’t watched it yet but I’m excited for the story of mini-Faust and Zangeif kid rivalry
LET'S GO BOIS! UPDATE TIME!
I watch and love almost your RUclips videos, but as a teacher these ones are definitely my favorite, never expected, always a pleasant surprise to hear from them, and to hear your opinion on the matter ❤️
This is so cool to hear about, thank you for the update! Love to hear about young fighters learning and progressing, and reflecting on my own progress and process!
Kinda started enjoying these mini Learning FGC stories.
im still a 6th grader at heart which is why i play goldlewis. good ol' behemoth, nothin' beats that

There is way too much effort in the thumbnail and I love it.
These are so awesome
This gotta be one of my favorite things on the internet
Fighting games as an educational tool can be more than just an engaging sport where two people clash and see who has the better gaming skill. The skills in play are, in fact, more general than just hand-eye coordination and movesets. There’s problem-solving, self-discipline, scientific experimentation, procedural thinking, and logistics.
In fighting games, you are rapidly developing a sense of what the problems are, identifying the tools one has to solve the problems, and implementing solutions. It’s proto-engineering, especially if you were to involve “lab time”. The difficulty is, of course, to iron out the ego that inevitably gets associated with this kind of social engagement as a competition for kids to realize all the tools available to them and to look past the failures and losses. But there’s a basis to say that this could enhance students’ cognition, particularly with respect to emotional regulation, critical thinking, and innovative technological creativity.
Normal sports are often coached by teachers who have to manage entire teams at a time, and they focus more on arranging for students to learn how to do things WELL (or just getting them to do things, period) when these are class-bound sports. I am less familiar with how school sports teams operate, but, when it comes to widely accessed school functions, fighting games are far easier to immediately have viable levels of performance to immediately focus on these higher level forms of cognition about the sport and what one is doing within it.
With the ability to focus on how one gets better results (without involving a need for time-consuming, energy-intensive, and extracurricular initiatives of “becoming more fit” or “physically executing a technique more competently and accurately” that a normal sport often requires), students learn more about how one becomes “excellent” at something WITHOUT TALENT than they would in a physical sport. And they can do this far more rapidly, because matches last about 3 minutes apiece and others can watch and compare with what they know and understand about the game in the meantime.
There may be something to be said for having a guided Mental Education (M.E.) sequence like there is P.E. (Physical Education) where active recreational use of one’s brain is emphasized with a video game like this to bring out the odd-yet-important kinds of cognitive skills from students. I’m also an advocate for games-based learning through more serious or content-integrated games in other subject areas because they engage students very well and can be tooled to get them practicing skills learned in class quickly while saving on materials and planning for the teacher (when supplied and used appropriately).
I was more hyped for this in December than Christmas no lie
The content we were waiting for. We eating,

Ur suppose to be fighting me, not the controller bro !!!
As a person who's done volunteer work setting up retro games for middle-schoolers, I'm still surprised he's allowed to share something as violent as Guilty Gear, especially at 6th grade! We weren't allowed to play Goldeneye, even though that year was spy-themed and they were in desperate need of more 4-player games! We couldn't play the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat 1, which is censored without a cheatcode, because "it's Mortal Kombat". Hell, we couldn't even play The Simpsons arcade beatemup, because "it's The Simpsons, that's a grownup show", though I'm certain they wouldn't complain if we played superhero games based off of PG13 movies. And yet, this guy got away with letting 6th graders play a game where like 2/3rds of the characters cause huge blood splashes with their normals! ...Unless +R nerfed the blood splashes compared to the older versions of XX I was used to?
Blood in any fighting game not called Mortal Kombat seems to be gone in general due to the changes in Japan's content rating system. In SF2 you used to be able to make characters vomit by hitting them with a fierce/roundhouse, and attacks like Vega's claw normals or Blanka/Zangief's head biting would have blood splashes. SNK games would have blood in them too, and then of course in Samsho you were able to cut people in half and stuff. In fact they have blood and dismemberment (though nothing near the level of current MK) in the western release of the new Samsho, but not in the JP version.
IIRC the blood effect on S and HS normals got removed somewhere between base XX and +R, but there are still blood effects on some other moves
not to mention the Ino win pose where she takes her top off LMFAO
A kid has to win with I-no first
@@AirLancer What version of SFII has any blood in it? ANYwhere? i've never seen it and i've played most versions of the game. World Warriors? No. Hyper Fighting? No. Super Turbo? No. Heck, Grand Master X? Also No. So when were there those effects in a Street Fighter game? Ever since the beginning it's just been stars and ghosts and stuff circling around your head stunning you and that takes some heavy hits to do even still.
Favorite saga
I wonder if we'll see another Justice girl.
7:11 woa. Sajam. 😮
smokin sick style
The saga continues
i hate to be overthinking this but what if this guy on reddit has just been lying the whole time about his and has been making fake scenarios LOL
I did get a sick combo(fire came out from the shield) on snes KI by mashing so I know im playing the game right by mashing
As an adult trying to finally get into fighting games, blocking has been a struggle lol
I'm just cracking up at the idea of a mixup that you beat "just by existing". Like imma EX exist that real quick
Woo
Sajam if you stop covering this story I will never forgive you. Don’t you dare take my favorite tv show away
these kids gonna be the x-men of fighting games
Teacher: Ok class for our home period we are going to be smelling the game, before chemistry with Sol Badguy.
As a new fighting game player, these kids are just like me frfr
genuinely how do you get these thumbnails
we need replays
So have these poor kids go from an audience of, at worst, what like 20, to an audience of many thousands? Yeah, "No pressure or anything kids." o.o
I feel attacked
Hard slash
Street Fighter 3rd strike Chun Li to number 5- "hold my beer. i have a match to win with crouching meduim into super and hard punch."
she only needs two things lol hard punch and crouching medium ( not really but watching jwong could give you that idea. o and just throw a lot lmao)
lol, why does the thumbnail look like a scam ad?
Man...my 6yo DOES NOT like it when I block XD
"Daddy's a cheater!" xD
Something I'm starting to wonder about in the context of introducing people to fighting games (beyond just "mash buton in funy game") is trust in the game design. Everyone (me included) has looked at a weapon/character/card in a game and thought, "This is simply bad and therefore I'll ignore it." But if someone told me that the game I'm playing is impeccably designed, and every single thing in it has a real purpose and value, I might approach things a bit differently. I'd be less inclined to write off a stubby jab if someone could convince me to trust that it exists for a reason
*Look
Did he ever mention what subject he teaches? Wonder what the kids are struggling with
