This week at the chateau, ash has family visiting from Canada and help out with a little gardening, but what started as a small de-weeding job turns into a full rebuild of the stone staircase for ash & Adam, while Celine tackles the garden.

Terry restores a beautiful old mirror that was a gift from a wonderful friend, ready to be fitted in the bedroom on the third floor, but first it needs to be put back together.
and finally, the beautiful marble fireplace for the dining room is put back in its place and looks amazing, with fantastic work from Laura & Brian. if you need help with any stonemason work then please contact them.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

The most fireplaces we ever got going was seven of them! Today....40 years later, I've got none of them in use. At 85, I don't use them but rely on a furnace.

So wonderful to have cousins like Adam, Celine and their boys helping out with steps, weeding. Days with a roto-tiller, that merits some sort of reward! All looking so much better. The mirror is amazing. Meticulous work. Terry never gives up. Thank you for showing us the fine work on the mantlepiece/fireplace restoration.
It would have been nice with a "before" picture of the fireplace, and maybe one, where the finished mirror was hung on the wall. 😉

I'm continually amazed by how hard Ash works and how many things he knows how to do. The staircase leading down to the walled garden came up a treat.

The stairs look so beautiful. I have to laugh, when there is digging you can count on Patrick to be there. LOL The mantel has come out so great, it seemed like a lost cause at first. Ash, I believe you will find many chandeliers unexpectably appearing as the process continues.

Fireplace is amazing, the stairs down into "my" garden almost brand new. It looks as if 40yrs of neglect left more than 20cm extra soil in the garden, it almost van overs the lowest step. But Lalacelle is radiant of excitement. Brought back to life by you. Super

So it seems im rather late to this party.....I only found this channel a matter of days ago but have spent most my evenings "catching up" your family is an inspiration you have all done so much to bring the château and surrounding buildings and land back to life after over 40 years as a gay man myself its great to also see how both Terry and Ash are breaking those steriotypical barriers that gay men are not "manly" and "cant do that type of job" as someone that has spent so many years renovating and doing work that people didnt think I could because I am gay Ive really enjoyed you guys sticking a middle fi ger up at that 🤣. Its also great to see the neighbours and locals appreciate all you are all doing. Not only that but your ahowing such an amazing family unit and also such a great model to Jonathon of not just life but work ethic and love. Personally id love to visit the château one day and camp there knowing all you have all done to bring the old lady back to life again.

Fabulous work guys. The steps, mirror and fireplace restorations were amazing. Terry, the care you took with that mirror shows us that we and you are getting to the bit where you are going to really shine. Your eye for detail has always been spot on but now we are getting to the decorating stage rather than the physical hard labour stage you are about to really shine. The chateau is going to be fabulous. Gilt and glory everywhere. I can’t wait!

Goodness! I love the fireplace, and so excited to see it repaired and back, but honestly the steps... No words. Seeing them come back, again no words. Terry how you were able to bring back that mirror? That's just straight talent. Great episode as always. This one was full of stunning transformations. I look forward to seeing the second set of stairs helped out a bit. They will be more of a challenge, but after seeing what you could do with these stairs I'm sure you are up to the challenge. The steps look so much better. What a good save and how nice the nephews could help in the process. Memories being built. The lawn will look fabulous in the secret garden at the base of the steps. The château is emerging from its sleep as a beauty! When doing repairs to plaster frames and capitals, I have found that if you use Elmer's white glue between the seams on the broken bits of the plaster it helps to hold them together better than just the plaster over and under them. Clay and dental tools work great in doing the matching of the repair to the original carvings. And what a phenomenal save of the fireplace surround. Kudos to them!

Your friends did a magnificent job of restoring the mantle in the grand salon, it looks fabulous. Another friend of yours John arrived at the Chateau with some amazing treasures including that mirror. I am sure he loved every single piece that he so generously gave you and knew that you would treasure them too. Thank Heavens for power washers...what a huge help they are when cleaning up stone walls and steps. Cleaning the stonework makes a huge difference without a lot of expense, just hard graft. Terry's gift to sculpt repairs to the mirror is brilliant...see how close to the work he gets? Such close attention.

Really enjoyed seeing the projects tacked. The lawn, the steps! And the mirror. There are soft gilding waxes you can buy to recolour or brighten frames. Have a look in art suppliers. They are in a range of tones so you can match almost anything.
