On this episode of Zoo Tours, we are returning to Nebraska - where of all places, you would never expect there to be one of the nation's greatest zoos. In case you're not familiar with Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, all you need to know is they spare no expense when it comes to their projects, leading to the most mind blowing attractions you may ever see. We've already spent extensive time in a few of their record breaking, award winnings exhibits - and this episode continues that streak. The Sea Lion Shores, debuted in 2020, can be added to the zoo's list of monumental achievements in realism and design. The shores is one large 275,000 gallon rocky cove engulfed by towering cliffs, beaches, waterfalls and a forest that blocks out the rest of the world... with the exception of the Desert Dome of course. While pinnipeds are the spotlight, this episode will not just showcase their fun and acrobatic behaviors - you'll also learn one of the ways why the oceans need to remain clean in order to retain a healthy and balanced ecosystem. As someone who's worked at the Henry Doorly Zoo it never ceases to warm my heart when i see and hear from people that have had a great experience at our zoo.

I haven’t been to the Bronx yet but I’ve been to San Diego, Brookfield, Columbus, Indy, and many others and was insanely impressed with how well-done everything was this past summer. The Mahoney Kingdoms of the Night to end the visit sealed it at my top spot so far. You’re so lucky to have been a part of this institution!!
Growing up with this zoo being my home zoo I was so spoiled. The old sea lion exhibit was in for a long overdue expansion and update and I am so proud of this new exhibit. Honestly took my breath away the first time a saw it. I felt like a kid again the last time I visited
The Omaha Zoo has been making great strides to not only having a wide variety of animals on display but making the exhibits as natural and realistic as possible. Gone are the days of just a concrete slab and simple cage. It's almost like going on a mini safari the way it's going.
I've been lucky enough to grow up in Omaha, and I have memories my entire life of this incredible zoo and it has changed so much since I was a kid, but it was amazing then & it's still amazing now.
This may just be the most beautiful exhibit I have ever seen, glad to see it being done justice by your tours!

And to answer your question, my favorite animal presentation has got to be the Orca Encounter of SeaWorld, I just can't get enough of these amazing creatures!
Favorite show is the Dolphin show at Shedd Aquarium. Haven't been there since 2007
Free flight bird shows are my favourite! An awesome display of natural behaviours, excellent animal enrichment and a great chance for some bird photography.
If this was someone's Planet Zoo exhibit, I'd be rolling my eyes at the over-the-top rockwork. Like, come on, no real zoo is going to make it look that great...
Favorite show/presentation: it's a tie between beluga whales and giant pacific octopus feeding/interactions with keepers 🐙

Wow, seeing this new exhibit at the Henry Doorly Zoo makes me want to go visit again. My last visit was when my dad and I made our big trip back in 2013 before they started on their master plan. I can't wait to see what this world class zoo looks like after the Master Plan is complete
I like the Orca Encounter at SeaWorld San Diego and the Winged Wonders Bird Show at Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
I love the cheetah run at the Cincinnati Zoo because I love Sir Francis Bacon.

I totally am looking forward to seeing the Asian highlands exhibit because when I was visiting Omaha I was so impressed with the exhibit especially how the rhino and deer were able to be together and also how they have goral and takin and Tuffed Deer and the muntjac and the cranes and when I went to Omaha that was my first encounter with the takin, Goral, Tufted Deer, muntjac and the cranes and I especially liked how the red pandas were mixed with the muntjac and I encountered the other animals when I was at other zoos like when I was very young I had my first encounter with the tiger, Snow Leopard, Sloth Bear, red panda, Indian rhino at the Philly zoo and the Père David’s deer at the Bronx zoo.

This exhibit is a much larger, more detailed version of Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s Sea Lion Cove. The similarities though are pretty astounding.

So what happened to the old Sea Lion pool? its no longer marked on the zoo's map. Is it demolished?

Honestly, I hope it (or the space) can be repurposed for a future exhibit, just not for seals. Maybe net it over for an aviary?
It was demolished and the area was turned into a stingray building and an event center. The area where the sea lion pool was specifically is now a green space for private events.
