Joey!!! More tips and tricks please. You're RUclips series inspired me and I follow the old tips you've given us and I'm excited to see new tricks you have learned through your continued experiences and dedication to fishkeeping.
What I love watching most is the production quality, really some top notch stuff. The content has always been great and very helpful, informative. I remember watching a videos from way back when; no offense, some of them were train wrecks. The polish and shine on these videos are really impressive. Keep up the great work Joey.
Bring Pro Tips and Tricks back! I enjoy your videos but Pro Tips and Tricks is how I originally found you. I am at the point in this hobby I am because of you. Thank you so much for what you do.
Joey, Please add the tips and tricks or anything you want. I enjoy your channel and have used many of your ideas. You are the first of only two channels on aquariums and fish that I watch. Thanks for the great info and how to's.
yeah mate I reckon bringing back pro tips and tricks would be awesome! I hang out for your new vids every thursday and rewatch all your older ones inbetween. Maybe a new idea for a series for you would be a sort of "species profile" where you pick a species of large fish and go over general info about it, what you think of them, and how you would keep them (what kind of setup, tank size etc) if you were to keep them. cheers joey, keep up the fantastic work, you are an absolute legend mate
Great video, can't believe this hasn't had more views. That being said it took me more than two months of watching DIY's videos to stumble across it myself.
I use tights (pantyhose) tied over the intake of my siphon. It saves the panic of chasing a sucked up fish back to the sink before it goes down the plug hole.Ideal on water changes, but while hoovering the substrata, I use a 1mm hole size netting, gunk still goes up the tube but fish don,t. ;-)xx
depending on your tank size hair nets are good to stretch over the top of a divided betta tank to stop them jumping love your vids helped me alot glad to see you back doing more again
The end cracked me up lmao but heck yeah bring it back!! Keep up the good work man you not only make this hobby a lot more fun but a bit cheaper to!! I love it!!
I needed a net type of material for my pool’s leaf vacuum. The pool store charges exorbitant prices for those and they are smaller than I need and tend to fall apart rather quickly. I got an inexpensive laundry bag which lasts a lot longer and holds more material. I suppose that a laundry bag can also be used to hold filter media for aquariums.
Would expanded clay like Hydroton work as filter media? A lot of hydroponic farmers use it as media for plants and I have a bunch left over from my own farming experiments. I want to uses it to keep a very delicate species of fish alive outside.
is the lava rock that you buy the same as volcanic cinder? a ton of the gravel roads in my area are made of that stuff and I'm wondering if i could get the lava rock for free.
Yes remaster and make some new one as well. You do such good job showing how is is done. which helps me out so that I dont make any mistakes and help me save money. I can enjoy my hobby more. You have also helped save my life. Because fish keeping has helped my anxiety and panic attacks and helps me to relax. Thank you so much Joey. I have seen people substitute filter socks with pany hose.
Thanks for your old DIY aquarium media video. I have lava rocks everywhere, filter, tank and few idle 😁 . They are doing extremely good at very low price. 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Paint strainers work great. They come in a 1-5 gallon. They are also cheep. You can pick them up at any home improvement store. I'm pretty sure they are made from nylon.
YES PLZ!!!! PLZ REVISIT!!! I would love advice for DIYing like technique and stuff. I'm a novice and I'm not very familiar with application and executions of the stuff i see online. I have trouble especially with breaking or cracking plastic when i try to DIY stuff :( like on the bucket canister
You can also get some mesh fabric from Walmart for about 3 bucks a yard, make a ton of media filter bags. You can stitch the bags or use hot glue, super glue, rubber band the ends, upgrade them by stitching a zipper,layer/wrap it around the rocks :) i spent 7 bucks on two yards and can hold rather small gravel/carbon/rings and you can trim to fit literally any filter. You can get it in black, white or any color you like but I have more than I need at the moment and I have 4 tanks..
I have a 120 gallon full of way to many tilapia. It'll plug 6 7" filter bags a day. Any idea what the most efficient lowest maintenance mechanical filter could be? Biological keeps up ok and nitrates feed plants. I just can't seem to keep the tank clear... Love for any suggestions!
those were originally why i started following you... I though they were pretty cool.. that being said i think you and your channel have grown and would love to see you make a come back/revisit to the pro tips and tricks Thank you, Stay awesome! Mahalo and Aloha
So I can replace the cartilage filter with this? I have a penguin bio wheel and I'm trying to find an alternative to buying multiple cartridges. I know you don't change the bio wheel because it has all the beneficial bacteria on it but it gets expensive when I have to change the actual carbon filter every couple weeks. I'm sure I can just buy activated charcoal for it but I'm not sure what I could put it in to hold it in place.
I've always worn pantyhose and hairnets, but I like your ideas better. Much more comfortable to use them as media bags and pre-filters. I really did enjoy this video and would love to see more in this mode.
bring it back i have a saltwater tank and considering using a lot of your old diy videos as inspiration for a reef tank built on nothing but cheap materials for an experiment and a bit of fun would like to see any improvements to your old ideas for inspiration been watching you for years and love the videos
Your channel is my go to for DIY fish care. Could you make a video on "How to make your own carbon"? & if its possible DIY "Ammonia removal filter". Thank you
Do you have any tips for DIY filter cartridges for HOB filters? I hate buying them because they are such a waste. I don't need the carbon that is in them and they only last a few weeks (even with rinsing) before they obstruct water flow too much.
Great vid can only imagine what the arowana must be thinking at the end haha great vid again joey love watching everything you post keep them coming please
Love this video but I would like to see how and where you put this media in each type of filter. I’m very new to this hobby and still trying to figure things out. Thank you so much!
Hi Joey, will the panty hose work for Seachen Purigen? The Purigen is really really tiny. Thanks for the great info and yes please bring this series back :D
Hello, I just have a quick question I recently added gravel to my aquarium as well as plants , I do not have dirt or anything like that on the bottom of the tank. I am giving the plants fertiliser however. I want to know if this will affect how my plants will grow please get back to me ASAP
Yes please. For me, the smaller tips and builds are the ones I will actually do myself. I really want to build an enormous tank, but I can't due to spacial and financial constraints at the moment, so the smaller things are great for me. And I do think that the smaller projects give your audience an easier way into DIY aquarium stuff. You simply don't start with a giant plywood tank without any DIY experience.
Thanks for the video Joey :) Only thing I can think of using pantyhose for you didn't mention is that its great to put on your filter's outlet (i.e. the return to the tank) when you've done a water change and cleaned your filter but didn't have time to brush out the hoses. All that gunk can come spewing out the hoses into your nice clean water as you prime the canister - stick a pop sock on the return or over the spray bar and problem's solved. Cheers
OK King, I did my first DIY sump, it's actually the back 2 inches of the main tank. It looks great, hides everything, has 2 baffles to move the water via drilled holes etc. But my problem is when I added some of the filter media to the different chambers, the last chamber( with the 100 power head type pump in it/ btw it's only a 10 gal tank) drains way down, and gets below the bio media. Thanks for the videos!
The flow rate of your pump is higher than the rate at which the tank water can flow through your filter media. I would suggest to either limit the flow of your pump if you can, or reduce the mass of your media, or potentially use a smaller pump. Hope this helps!

Great video, can't believe this hasn't had more views. That being said it took me more than two months of watching DIY's videos to stumble across it myself.
Should so make this a thing again, your old videos are good and all but the quality you put out now is miles better.
I use tights (pantyhose) tied over the intake of my siphon. It saves the panic of chasing a sucked up fish back to the sink before it goes down the plug hole.Ideal on water changes, but while hoovering the substrata, I use a 1mm hole size netting, gunk still goes up the tube but fish don,t. ;-)xx

As a man, when I have to get panty hose for a tank, make sure the cashier sees the wedding ring.
Wedding ring? That dont mean nothing
@@autobotavengerfireballxl5339 lolololololto funny
The cashier just wanna get thing done and go home xD
Great, More, More. Now a short question about your use of Gamma lids. Did you have a problem with them leaking with the pump off? Tks Mel
Bring it back please. You did a good job bud. I love your work!
Those tips and tricks were one of the reasons I subbed to your channel. Bring 'em back!
I remember the pantyhose tip! Yes you were serious - a little uncomfortable it seemed - I was glad you persevered. Your gift to us is great.
Bring it Joey. The more video "Aquarium DYI" the better!

The more tips and tricks the merrier. I'm looking forward to the second volume of your book, especially the part on plywood tanks and stands.
Joey, what Maritime hardware store do you purchase that large light diffuser (the grid material) you use so much at?
Do you still recommend lava rocks for hob filters still since it's been a year? Also would i have to use any other things to go with the lava rock?
Remaster for sure, what do you think about jute mesh bags from craft stores?
is the lava rock that you buy the same as volcanic cinder? a ton of the gravel roads in my area are made of that stuff and I'm wondering if i could get the lava rock for free.
I love all the tips you post. Keep posting Joey. We love all the vids

I have seen people substitute filter socks with pany hose.
can you use lava rock for freshwater and also do you need to rinse or boil it before using it in your filter
What's the best size lava rock for surface area? I have some small gravel size, and currently have a larger marble size in now.
Thanks for your old DIY aquarium media video. I have lava rocks everywhere, filter, tank and few idle 😁 . They are doing extremely good at very low price. 👏👏👏👍👍👍
The more content, the better. Your videos are great and I recently purchased the book and it's awesome too.
+Daniel Walters glad you think so Daniel!!
Do you suggest cleaning the lava rocks before adding it to the filter? I've read online that some people boil them. What are your thoughts?
I'm trying to modify my marina slim s15 filter. My favorite hob filter. I just don't like replacing those cartidges. This helps so much!

can you put lava rock in your tank as decoration
+mcartus you sure can!
+mcartus Sure, its completely inert.
Ive actually made caves and towers with openings and tunnels out of lava rock and aqueon aquarium silicone
+The king of DIY and nitrifying bacteria would live there? if we use it as decoration?¿
+Angel Varela Faroppa the bacteria sort of lives on all the surfaces in your tank so yes.
How'd you make the cool light affect on the arowana tank?

Great vid can only imagine what the arowana must be thinking at the end haha great vid again joey love watching everything you post keep them coming please

it is a great video. Thank you for sharing; how do you know so much about this stuff?
Is my bio media still useable for a new aquarium if it was in an old aquarium before with fish dying due to many diseases?
Love this video but I would like to see how and where you put this media in each type of filter. I’m very new to this hobby and still trying to figure things out. Thank you so much!

Lava rock, dish scourers and pillow fluff are my favorite go to medias, and i use panty hose to contain carbon when i need it

Most certainly bring it back. Although lava rock in this case a little bit dearer to buy in the UK.
YES PLEASE DO THOSE EPISODES!!!
I watch all your videos never got a chance to see the originals would love to see u revisit those topics
