LOVE how epic this track is... first time I heard it in game at the Slums of Zenobia, I was actually a tad startled, and it really lends an air of seriousness to any map that has the track.
I know, that's why I love it. This is where the game changes from a rag-tag group of fighters fighting the local bad guys to the idea of leading an organized army against the Empire.
I have to agree, because before this stage, you're dealing with enemies who at best could be described as villains-of-the-week. With this stage, you know everything is ramped up a level.
Oh god, not the Slums of Zenobia. All I wanted to do was listen to the awesome background music, but it would get interrupted every few seconds for another long and pointless minute of "fight it out!" That Samurai unit was the bane of my existence that battle.
Nangbaby Neat! Those two are one of the best in the series, especially 7, which I absolutely love. :) Just to clarify, FE7 is actually the game that servved as a base for The Last Promise. But returning to this song, do you think that I could like Ogre Battle if I love the Fire Emblem series?
I can't believe I never replied to this! You might not like Ogre Battle, because while both games are in that Tactical/Strategy RPG genre, both take almost opposite approaches. Ogre Battle focuses on putting one-role characters into units and moving them around a map free form. Individual battles are fought automatically, with only limited engagement. Fire Emblem, on the other hand, is more focused on moving individual characters around a gridded battlefield, and though their roles are limited (in Fire Emblem even more than most Tactical RPGS), you are in control of how they approach and attack. The only similarity is that both feature playable characters with extremely specialized roles, and that their actions are determined by countable uses rather than MP or recovery time.
I've seen one too many series in games, movies, etc, go astray when it comes to not bowing out. Even if there's greatness to be had, I don't know if the creators can bring it out. As long as my SNES and my cart works, that will be enough.
Also, I found it makes things much faster to turn off the attack animations for normal battles. It actually makes the action quite enjoyable without fast forwarding. In fact I find I need it to keep track of what is going on and make last minute adjustments to unit position. The enemy doesn't use good tactics so you can easily outclass hem. I only do it when treasure hunting. I also chose a female OL :) I love to use her for 3x banish in the front row. She has 100/100 Cha/ali and hits hard.
I've actually only uploaded a few tracks as a sample of the music. I left out Santa's Coming (as well as most of the soundtrack) since it wasn't one of my personal favorites.
I wish this game got a true sequel. One of my favorites of all time and so unique even to this day. Even ogre battle 64 changed a lot of stuff like remove reputation, and simplified the gameplay. Also I thought the 3d graphics were pretty bad.
I know how you feel. I dislike quite a few of the changes Ogre Battle 64 made. However, I also know that any other sequel would likely have even more changes from MotBQ, which is why I am glad it doesn't have a sequel.
@supernova54321 I know this comment of yours is old, but this tune was remixed as Wall of Defense on the original playstation Ogre Battle(Tactics ogre on PSX)
@supernova54321 To be honest, I can't remember. I know there was none in the normal course of gameplay, but I'm not sure if there was a remastering accessible through the music mode.
@Mysterio467 Yeah, there's a PSX version of this tune, but it's highly debatable as to whether it is better (I'd say no, others say yes.) An Ogre Battle 64 version of this song would be near universally better received because the instruments were fuller. Compare the OB64 version of Thunder to the PSX version of Thunder for instance.
I love this game, but I'd much rather the series stay dead. I'm worried that if it were to come to the DS or any new system, the game would not be as good as the classics.

this song deserve a right place in the top 100 video game music.
top 5 more like...
Yup this music is where you hit the big time.
Beautiful,I so want to play Orge Battle again.

Goddamnit. Thank you. 15 plus years since I last played this. I still hum the tune of this track. Again, thank you.

This should be up there for one of the best video game BGMs around.
When this song kicks in, you know shit is getting real
God I love this game.... and the music! I wish they could make an Ogre battle for the DS!
JateGuitar, your post is bringing back memories....
let's keep this alive forever!
This song was featured in a Fire Emblem (GBA) hack called The Last Promise.
Not that I except anyone to care :P
Hey, I care. I played a couple of FE games, but I suck at them so I wouldn't play a hack of it and wouldn't know if you didn't tell me.
Which ones have you played?
The GBA ones, which I think are "really" 7 and 8. I planned to play others, but I never got around to them.
Nangbaby Neat! Those two are one of the best in the series, especially 7, which I absolutely love. :)

This is the best song in the game.

They're available at March On, Black Queen. Search for that term, and you'll find it.
Reminds me of General Debonair, Dark Prince Gares, High Mage Rashidi, and the Dark God Diablo!
This has always been one of my favorite tracks. It reminds me of all that, every important battle, and of course the final stage.
Nangbaby : Oh, I almost forgot. Galf the demon and those Gemini twins also used this theme.
Best song on the SNES Ogre Battle! Out of interest, did they include this song in the OB64 soundtrack? I'd love to hear a richer version of it.

Nangbaby, thank you for the awesome game songs, but i hope that they can come out with a better sequal or open the other chapters.
This game is very good.

great snes memories indeed
@sahuaro Indeed. Be it when you first march to Zenobia, or in the final stage, you know it's time to get serious.
@Nangbaby There is one song in Ogre Battle 64, though, that sounds familiar to this song at least.
There's an orchestral version of this now. Just look up "Impregnable Defense PSP".

OB64 did not remove reputation
@Blusnayl It wasn't in Ogre Battle 64. I wish that this song were in that game, but it was not.

Quit making me want to play this game again!

And then you break out your double lich/princess group and all is well again.
I love this game, but I'd much rather the series stay dead. I'm worried that if it were to come to the DS or any new system, the game would not be as good as the classics.
