    Subscribed Gentlemen !
    Your commentary was actually Brilliant ! Know That. I work in Public Safety and several/many of our folks showed up there yesterday.
    You probably have the best, or some of the best documented footage of things as they went down.
    Yeah, I realize it isn't 1080 all around, but you managed to capture the important moments like no one else.
    Brilliant Job Gentlemen! Owen and Ryan, as this gets publicized, you might be approached to see if you'd like to add your footage to the archive. The Santa Cruz Fire Marshal or various Police/Sheriff Agencies may contact you after seeing your footage.
    There is the investigation, the why, the insurance factor, and the aftermath/facts of what went down.
    I'd encourage to share your video if you're willing.
    Anyway, Brilliant Job capturing this....your commentary is straight, true, and timely. Don't underestimate your comments and video with helping the authorities piecing this together. The more information...the better !
    And.....being a Santa Cruz native myself....your commentary was spot friggin' ON !!!
    Best !

I sent an email to the wharf, then called them and they directed me to email someone in the parks and rec dept. We'll see where that goes. Great job with the video! When we lived in San Diego we would always stand on the piers during storms with big waves, unless they closed them for the really big storms. We could feel the whole structure move from each wave and thought it was sort of fun. You would never catch me doing that again after this!

    That’s why piers in the U.K. are closed to the public when storms hit. We should be getting used to these wild weather events as they are becoming increasingly frequent and dangerous. Stay home and battern down the hatches unless you are in a flood zone or on the seafront then you get to higher ground and inland for safety. Definitely you don’t go into the water.

      @rzimbauer thanks. Yeah it's an absolute miracle that they both came out fine. I think cuz the wave came up to the height of the wharf deck, it broke the sections of the wharf off and floated them like a raft. My niece can't talk publicly about it because there are now lawyers involved.

    • @rzimbauer
      @rzimbauer  16 дней назад +1

      @@jillkelly1329 Got it, makes sense. I am curious: in my video I was focused on the individual near the center of the wreckage who hopped in the water towards rescuers at 2:24, and we can kind of see an individual closer to the separation and bobcat at 0:48 who was also rescued (as seen in other videos from fishermen on the wharf). The news coverage mentions a third individual who swam out and self-rescued. Do you know where that third person was at the time of collapse, and if they're visible in any footage?

    • @jillkelly1329
      @jillkelly1329 16 дней назад +2

      @rzimbauer my niece is the one who flagged down the jet ski and leapt across the floating boards to get on the back of the jet ski. She's 5 ft 10, very athletic and also a surfer so she has incredible balance. We all laughed about it at the Christmas dinner table cuz everyone thinks she's a dude in the video, probably because she's wearing her hard hat and a safety vest. She and her co-worker were the only ones at the end of the wharf at that time because everyone else was sent home early because of the swells. We've talked about the apparent third person and I think because two lifeguards came in on the jet ski one of them body surfed off the back and swam toward the co-worker because there was too much debris for the jet ski to navigate so he swam to rescue the co-worker, which might have looked like a third person. Then the jet ski looped around and picked up both the lifeguard and the coworker before heading back to shore. My niece said there was also a lifeguard on the wharf further down toward the land who saw the wharf collapse and dove in to try to be of help. That might also be what people think is a third person. But it was just my niece and her co-worker on the wharf when it collapsed. Believe it or not her co-worker was actually filming at the time because they were so amazed at how the wharf was rippling and swaying, so she played me his footage, it's really a miracle.

    This is the first I've seen of the small boom crane or telescoping forklift or whatever the heavy piece of machinery was that went down right where the end broke off. The original video and what the news showed was once the floating piece of deck still had the skid steer and the restrooms, but your video shows a second, much heavier piece of equipment next to the skid steer when the end of the pier first landed in the water, but the crane obviously being heavier broke trough and sunk out in the deep water.
    It will have to be recovered.
    ...and it has oil, fuel and radiator coolant in it leaking out. Somebody's in big trouble!
