I’m not sure if I should be excited about this game or worried that Ubisoft is gonna screw this up somehow
Both. Be excited for how Ubisoft is going to screw it up. They always come up with innovative ways to disappoint us. Mind you it's not the actual devs, its the suits that constantly change things and push unrealistic goals and make impossible promises. Do NOT preorder; especially when it comes to Ubisoft products. They still haven't learned their lesson if Breakpoint or AC Mirage are any indications.

Black Flag is probably gonna stay my pirate game of choice, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic about this one. That said, I'm absolutely HYPED for the full version of that Wellerman remix.
What's there to be optimistic about? It's already confirmed there's no pirate to pirate combat, ship capturing is done in cutscene only, ship combat overall is vastly simplified compared to black flag, etc.
They're literally only releasing this game because they have a legal agreement with the government of Singapore to release a single game with the studio they have there. (Which the corrupt racist execs at ubisoft used only for glorified vacations, while treating every non-french employee like trash. 100% real, look it up if you're curious)

Not sure if anyone remembers but AC black flag did an AMAZING job with ship boarding and piracy all together. Hope we get something like that. The pirate market is so untapped with an exception to sea of thrives

The fact that Sly 3 a game that isn't even FOCUSED on piracy had more pirate features in the mission Dead Men Tell no Tales (you had a town, island exploration, naval combat, and even boarding) than this game does already is just crazy.

To be fair to Skull and Bones, most non indie games are filled with similar red flags, but that speaks more to the state if the industry than anything else.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind if they delayed it to atleast add some sort of hand to hand combat

Black Flag was one of my fav entry’s in the series…they nailed the ship combat but this game better include going on land as well…following an old treasure map to a bunch of far away obscure deserted islands was one of the best parts of that game lol

They never trully gave the game a release date though. Release window they did.
It's been turned into a GAAS, so it will likely release just like Sea of Thieves was, then improved and expanded upon for years after release.
I was hyped for this, thinking it was going to be a spirtual succesor to Black Flag, but I really don't trust Ubisoft to give us what Black Flag could. What a shame, there isn't many pirate games.

Being able to board enemy ships and fight to take control is a basic pirate thing, yet from what we've seen that doesn't exist in the game, which makes this a terrible pirate game.

Once you get an enemy ship's health low enough, you can move next to them, press a button, and watch as a cinematic plays as your crew boards their ship, kills the crew, fade to black, and back to your ship again.

They already did. I played the closed beta and forced myself to play 2 hours to see if it got better. It didn’t. It will be nothing like black flag. It’s not a pirate game. It’s an arcade ship combat game and it sucks. The canons are like machine guns and you’re sinking like 25 ships at a time. It’s too much and too easy, there is no sense of accomplishment. Not to mention there is no ship boarding combat/melee. It’s all ranged boat combat. That’s it, that’s all the game is. You dock at the HUB to get quests and upgrade your ship.

But, they might actually make a good game for the first time in a while.

Still can't comprehend how it's taken a decade to basically make Black Flag multiplayer and it's only 3-player co-op. Black Flag had such a great basis for how it should be done. At this point, I just don't think they'll be able to top Sea of Thieves, maybe that's why it seems they're going a different route idk.
It's a ship only arcade combat game from what they showed off last year. Same stuff is glimpsed at in trailer so dunno. The same boarding cutscene is I believe at 0:21 you don't actually get on board to fight.

@zytha2890 Unless they drastically changed the game from what they showed off this is just a ship game. Pure ship combat with crew doing everything for you ground combat wise. We will see upon next beta but I expect lil has altered.
Its not the same kind of game as sea of theives, you are essentially running a pirate business, where as in sea of theieves its delivered in first person. You can compare but they really are nothing alike in terms of mechanics, its refreshing to get a laid back format for a game like this.

it's a massive dud coming. you'll be bored within a week of fetch quests and driving your boat near the shore to farm resources. a massive pirate MMO would be cool - this is a busy work project that has kept people employed for 10 years but looks like it should've taken a year, tops.

Lol I played this at E3 2018 and got a t-shirt for it. Still wear it occasionally but it's nice to know that people will actually recognize what it is now. This games been in development a loooonggg time. It was good then so I'm pumped!
I played it back in Cologne Gamescom, and it honestly looked and played better there than the last beta. Massive graphic downgrades as well but we'll see what the game really will be like when it comes out.

I've been following this game for years now like most of us and I am excited, however I truly think a lot is lost with not being able to get on enemy ships and sword fight then loot.
Not alot. Everything is lost. It’s going to get boring VERY quickly, mark my words. Even if you don’t like going on land or boarding ships that much, the fact that you can in AC black flag will always make this game feel like it’s missing something

@@StAjoraGamesconfirmed last year by the devs and it was in the game showcase. Same stuff is in this trailer. Boarding is cutscenes only. You can see a glimpse of it at 0:21. It's in multiple articles as well. This is known information, and has been for about a year.

You realize those "rapid fire canons" are just a bunch of separate cannons firing right? Slow it down to .25 speed. No cannon fires more than once out of the same hole. Unless you are talking about the small rocket array a little later which isn't too far fetched but still fantasy.

Original 2017 trailer gave the impression that the game was way cooler back then…
So.. can your character walk around on the ship and swim to other ships or wrecks like you could in Black Flag?
No. While on your ship you're stuck to the Helm. You may only leave and walk around when in a port, or something of the like.

While I am afraid this will just fall over and flail on the floor, the naval combat still has me hooked, I loved the AC naval combat system to death and considering this feels like a spiritual successor, I will fight and die on this ocean if I have to.
