I took my samurai hubs apart the other day and thought I was doin the most by shooting them with brake parts cleaner and putting some more grease in them.... thanks for bringing me back to Earth
This is art. Thank you for showing me how to do stuff I will never venture to do because I don’t have your knowledge or skills. Though I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate watching you make this look easy.
FYI for future reference. To get the cone washers to pop out, there's no need to hit that nice shiny housing with a hammer, or force a screwdriver or chisel between the hub and the locking housing. It's likely to get damaged by this technique and then you'll have trouble with the seals. Of course one could sand or mill the surface flat again, but there's a better way.... The right way, which causes zero damage to any of the parts: take a hammer and brass drift and hit the end of the studs that hold the cone washers. A few hits and they'll loosen right up. Grab them out with some pliers. WheeliePete demonstrates (ruclips.net/video/3djqDPYI9tM/видео.html). I've done it a couple times works perfect. WheeliePete also has an excellent vid about rebuilding the Aisin manual hubs (ruclips.net/video/W78RkF1mUOE/видео.html).
Bruh…I am a really OCD guy and watching you do this is really satisfying to me and also saddening bc I don’t have the resources or time you have to do mine anymore. I need a few clones…lol Awesome build going here!!
Love the quality of your work Austin. I live in Australia and am currently doing up an 1988 LN106 Hilux and your vids are always really helpful. Cheers
Amazing work. The attention to detail in making those hubs look that killer. If you wanna take my 3rd gen and get creative with it would love to see what you could do to a modern truck.
FYI - to get those cone washers out it's better to tap on the stud rather than on the hub body. They will pop right out real easy. Plus it keeps the body from getting banged up. I just use the head of a long bolt and a mallet.
Yep, hitting on the end of the stud is the way to go. I bought a brass rod and slightly hollowed out one end. This hollow locates the drift on the end of the stud and the brass prevents damage to the steel stud.
Man I just picked up Back to the future truck sr5 efi solid axle x-cab and it’s black. Rough shape going to chop it up and take all the good parts off of it. Nice work yotas👍.
My 1998 pickup has red centers, I guess they changed colors at some point. I always learn some little trick on your videos. Using the grease to pick up the detent ball was a good way to make sure not to drop it. I have one of my hubs that is hard to engage. Now I have the confidence to take it apart and grease it up. Maybe some rattle can. The zinc looked great with the black/gray combo.
Curious what all you replaced during this? I assume the o-ring/gaskets, looks like the bolts were new as well? Did you use all the same springs, detent ball, cone washer, etc? Thanks again. Awesome work!
The part at 2:05 that you have your finger through. When assembled is there supposed to be any play in that? Or is that a sign I should replace my hubs?
Do you just work on your own vehicles? I live nearby and would like to find someone I can trust with your attention to detail to work on my Toyota Tacoma & Toyota 4Runner.

I just bought a 97 Tacoma right before you started this build so hopefully it gives me some motivation to clean up my truck😂
Your attention to detail is next level bro, and I thought I had the ocd bad.

I rebuilt mine in the 90s, and dropped the ball on the spring on my carpet! Took me an hour with a magnet to find it.
Amazing work. The attention to detail in making those hubs look that killer. If you wanna take my 3rd gen and get creative with it would love to see what you could do to a modern truck.

.. agreed.. that way has worked for me many times 🤙

Nice color combo bro. I would have done red on the inner hub with the black outer hub but overall nice build bro she is coming along nicely

Gunna refer to this when I manual hub swap my ADD truck
Perfect! Hope i can help!!
Nice work bro.
perfect like that! to be continued.
You should swap a 6ft/bigger bed onto it. I love the double cabs but dislike the tiny beds they come with. As usual, nice work
That would be cool!
Smooth
All ways watching sir austin
Looking super tight 👌

The part at 2:05 that you have your finger through. When assembled is there supposed to be any play in that? Or is that a sign I should replace my hubs?

U missed a very important part on how the locking gear and springs go together. Most will mess up that part.
well don't keep it a secret !
And 3rd
The gasket??????
Hi
The hubs are begging for red touch up on the lettering and arrows.
